Well once again I simply can't seem to find a decent nights sleep. Which brings me back to today's tune, "Mr Sandman". Think I might have to visit the pharmacy a little later in search of some sleeping sand.
Performed by Blind Guardian this one starts off rather mellow and ends up a a real rocking track. Much like many of their covers mind you.
(bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum, bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum)
Mister Sandman, bring me a dream.
Make her the cutest that I've ever seen.
Give her two lips like roses in clover.
Then tell her that her lonesome nights are over.
Sandman, I'm so alone.
Don't have nobody to call my own.
Please turn on your magic beam.
Mister Sandman, bring me a dream.
(bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum, bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum)
Mister Sandman, bring me a dream.
Make her the cutest that I've ever seen.
Give her the word that I'm not a rover
And tell her that her lonesome nights are over.
Sandman, I'm so alone.
Don't have nobody to call my own.
Please turn on your magic beam.
Mister Sandman, bring me a dream.
(bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum, bum, bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum)
Mister Sandman, bring us a dream.
Give her a pair of eyes with a come-hither gleam
Give her a lonely heart like Pagliacci
And lots of wavy hair like Liberace
Mister Sandman, someone to hold.
Would be so peachy before we're too old.
So please turn on your magic beam.
Mister Sandman, bring us,
Please, please, please,
Mister Sandman, bring us a dream.
Mister Sandman, seriously, just a dream... I might just finally get some rest.

Lord of the Rings
Busy searching through a few songs to "share" this morning and was reminded once again of Blind Guardian. These guys have taken tales and much like the bards of years ago, spun them into song.
"Lord of the Rings" is a song based on Tolkien's poem from the book by the same name. It tells the tale of just how heavy a burden that ring was. I have a replica of that ring, cast in silver that I wear most of the time. It too weighs heavy at times as it reminds me of what once was, then it makes me smile at other times as it reminds of how far I've come.
While I think this pretty much tells the tale, if you haven't heard the story of the "Lord of the Rings" then try to read it. I never liked Tolkien's style of writing but his stories are fantastic.
There are signs on the Ring
Which make me feel so down
There's one to enslave all Rings
To find them all in time
And drive them into darkness
Forever they'll be bound
Three for the Kings
Of the elves high in light
Nine to the mortals
Which cry
I'll keep the Ring full of sorrow
I'll keep the Ring till I die
I'll keep the Ring full of sorrow
I'll keep the Ring till I die
Slow down and I sail on the river
Slow down and I walk to the hill
Slow down and I sail on the river
Slow down and I walk to the hill
And there's no way out
Mordor
Mordor
Mordor
Dark land under Sauron's spell
Threatened a long time
Threatened a long time
Seven rings to the dwarfes
In their halls made of stone
Into the valley
I feel down (I feel down)
One ring to the dark lord's hand
Sitting on his throne
In a land so dark
Where I have to go
I'll keep the Ring
I'll keep the Ring
I'll keep the Ring
I'll keep the Ring
I'll keep the Ring
Till I die
Slow down and I sail on the river
Slow down and I walk to the hill
Slow down and I sail on the river
Slow down and I walk to the hill
Slow down and I sail on the river
Slow down and I walk to the hill
Slow down and I sail on the river
Slow down and I walk to the hill
Lord of the rings
Slowly we'll all get to where we're going, where we need to be. The burden will eventually be lifted and who ever that dark lord is, will be defeated.

The Bard's Song
I think today's tune pretty much sums up this entire blog.
"The Bard's Song" by Blind Guardian tells a tale of a travelling entertainer. In this case we're going back to the middle ages somewhat (think of the narrator in the animated Hunchback of Notre Dame).
Someone going about spreading tales through song...
Now You all know
The bards and their songs
When hours have gone by
I'll close my eyes
In a world far away
We may meet again
But now hear my song
About the dawn of the night
Let's sing the bards' song
Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow will take it away
The fear of today
It will be gone
Due to our magic songs
There's only one song
Left in my mind
Tales of a brave man
Who lived far from here
Now the bard songs are over
And it's time to leave
No one should ask You for the name Of the one
Who tells the story
Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow all will be known
And You're not alone
So don't be afraid
In the dark and cold
'Cause the bards' songs will remain
They all will remain
In my thoughts and in my dreams
They're always in my mind
These songs of hobbits, dwarves and men
And elves
Come close Your eyes
You can see them, too
Long after we're gone, long forgotten our words can still remain.
