Yoda

Well November is on its way out and figured I'd do my best to include as many Christmas themed tunes next month.

I'll end November then with an amusing track, I'll dedicate this one to Jodene and Greg. Think they'll see the funny side of this one.

"Yoda" by Weird Al is a parody of Lola by the Kinks. Although I figured the original is amusing in its own right (friends don't let friends... oh heck it's good for a laugh).

I met him in a swamp down in Dagobah
Where it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated soda
S-O-D-A, soda

I saw the little runt sitting there on a log
I asked him for his name and in a raspy voice he said "Yoda"
Y-O-D-A, Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I've been around, but I ain't never seen
A guy who looks like a muppet, but he's wrinkled and green
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I'm not dumb, but I can't understand
How he can lift me in the air just by raising his hand
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I left home just a week before
And I've never ever been a Jedi before
But Obi Wan, he set me straight, of course
He said, "Go to Yoda and he'll show you the Force"

Well I'm not the kind that would argue with Ben
So it looks like I'm gonna start all over again
With my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

So I used the Force
I picked up a box
I lifted some rocks
While I stood on my head
but, I won't forget what Yoda said

He said, "Luke, stay away from the darker side
And if you start to go astray, let the Force be your guide"
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

"I know Darth Vader's really got you annoyed
But remember, if you kill him, then you'll be unemployed"
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I heard my friends really got in a mess
So I'm gonna have to leave Yoda I guess
But I know that I'll be coming back some day
I'll be playing this part 'till I'm old and gray

The long-term contract I had to sign
Says I'll be making these movies till the end of time
Oh with my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Just don't forget what Yoda said... :)

Mentally Yours

Well it's been some time since I posted anything from Savatage so here we go.

"Mentally Yours" is lead into the final 3 tracks of Gutter Ballet which are all related. This is a dip into insanity, the suffering or the bliss? In many ways I think this should be my default theme tune (well this or Crazy Train).

Again I'm a real sucker for the piano and the intro makes for stark contrast to the body of this particular song. The arrangement really fits the content of this one.

Timmy went out to play
With the friends he made
Why did they send him away
He drove his mommy mad
His daddy ran
They didn't understand
Now he gazes his cold nights through
Reliving all the things he would do
If only he had another chance
If that was all he had

His tension life
He beats the wife
Douse the cat with gasoline
Gotta try
The other side
He just has to get away
That's when it all began
Timmy lost his mind
Was just a matter of time
Before he went crazy

Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours

Running wild
Cause that's his style
Can't be held by any cage
Crossed the line
The final time
Tonight he takes his stage
That's when it all began
Timmy lost his mind
No one cried
When Timmy died

Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours

Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
Mentally yours
Mentally yours
Mentally
Mentally
Mentally
Yours

Suffer insanity. Nope, I'm still enjoying it.

The Saga Begins

Well it's Friday and Beerday all in one. So, time for something a little more light hearted.

Weird Al does his parody of American Pie as well as Star Wars (Episode I: The Phantom Menace) with, "The Saga Begins". It pretty much tells the story of the movie and in a much shorter time than the original American Pie by Don McClean.

As a massive Star Wars fan, I just love it!

A long, long time ago
In a galaxy far away
Naboo was under an attack
And I thought me and Qui-Gon Jinn
Could talk the federation in
To maybe cutting them a little slack
But their response, it didn't thrill us
They locked the doors and tried to kill us
We escaped from that gas
Then met Jar Jar and Boss Nass
We took a bongo from the scene
And we went to Theed to see the Queen
We all wound up on Tatooine
That's where we found this boy

Oh
My my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
He left his home
And kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin'
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

Did you know this junkyard slave
Isn't even old enough to shave
But he can use the Force, they say

Ahh, do you see him hitting on the queen
Though he's just nine and she's fourteen
Yeah, he's probably gonna marry her someday

Well, I know he built C-3PO
And I've heard how fast his pod can go
And we were broke, it's true
So we made a wager or two
He was a prepubescent flyin' ace
And the minute Jabba started off that race
Well, I knew who would win first place
Oh yes, it was our boy

We started singin'
My my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home
And kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin'
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

Now we finally got to Coruscant
The Jedi Council we knew would want
To see how good the boy could be
So we took him there and we told the tale
How his midi-chlorians were off the scale
And he might fulfill that prophecy
Oh the Council was impressed of course
Could he bring balance to the Force?
They interviewed the kid
Oh, training they forbid
Because Yoda sensed in him much fear
And Qui-Gon said "Now listen here"
"Just stick it in your pointy ear"
"I still will teach this boy"

He was singin'
My my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home
And kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin'
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

We caught a ride back to Naboo
'Cause Queen Amidala wanted to
I frankly would've liked to stay
We all fought in that epic war
And it wasn't long at all before
Little hotshot flew his plane and saved the day
And in the end some Gungans died
Some ships blew up and some pilots fried
A lot of folks were croakin'
The battle droids were broken
And the Jedi I admire most
Met up with Darth Maul and now he's toast
Well, I'm still here and he's a ghost
I guess I'll train this boy

And I was singin'
My my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home
And kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin'
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

We were singin'
My my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home
And kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

The Force is strong with me; soon I'm gonna be a Jedi.

Superhero

Been "sharing" a bit of late and came across this gem, also by The Pretty Reckless (making it two in two days).

I think we're all searching for a hero one way or another. Deep down we're all responsible for our own short comings or awesomeness. Heroes as depicted in media or even in film are far and few between and even then at the end of the day they're still only really doing for themselves. Kind of makes me think of that saying there is no unselfish act... even if the only reward is self gratification.

Super Hero or Super Villain we can so easily play either side and often jump from one to the other. Who do we hurt? Generally ourselves... who's the most likely to save you? Yourself.

Todays tune, "Superhero"...

All alone again searchin for somethin'
There's no one left to save me now
I won't be afraid I just thought you'd catch me
But you're not here to save me now

I've had my share of criminals
And you're no different from them all

I need a superhero cause I am just a girl
And I have no one who will go
And save me from this world
Come to me you superhero
Cause I am just a girl
I know cause you're no
Superhero

What did I expect I thought you'd help me
But I was crushed and beaten down

Yeah I've had my share of criminals
And you're no different from them all

I need a superhero cause I am just a girl
And I have no one who will go
And save me from this world
Come to me you superhero
Cause I am just a girl
I know cause you're no
Superhero

I'm hangin on the edge of the world
I'm clutching to a string
And my life is crumbling down

I need a superhero someone to save me
I need a superhero someone to save me

I need a superhero cause I am just a girl
And I have no one who will go
And save me from this world
Come to me you superhero
Cause I am just a girl
I know cause you're no superhero

I think most fail to realise that the superhero is inside themselves.

Make Me Wanna Die

I just love this one from the soundtrack to the movie, Kick-Ass. If you haven't seen it, do yourself the favour and do so. It's not exactly your classic "A Super Hero" is born plot. Although the description in the IMDb states that he has no reason to become a super hero, I think they missed the fact that we all have many reasons to do so but you'll get that a little better when you watch the movie.

The Pretty Reckless headed by Taylor Momsen (who you might know from Gossip Girl) has really grown on me so far. A bizarre kind of setup but hey, it it was any more normal, would it be another track from Britney? I'm just sayin'

Including the Intro (non-radio friendly version)

Damon Macready: So... Have you thought a little more about what you might want for your birthday?
Mindy Macready: Can I get a puppy?
Damon Macready: [surprised] You wanna get a dog?
Mindy Macready: Yeah, a cuddly fluffy one, and a Bratz movie-star make over Sasha!
Damon Macready: [stunned]
Mindy Macready: [laughs] I'm just fucking with you Daddy! Look, I'd love a Benchmade model 42 butterfly knife.
Damon Macready: [relieved] Oh, child... You always knock me for a loop!

Take me I'm alive
Never was a girl with a wicked mind
But everything looks better when sun goes down

I had everything
Opportunities for eternity
And I could belong to the night
Your eyes, your eyes
I can see in your eyes
Your eyes

You make me wanna die
I'll never be good enough
You make me wanna die
And everything you love will burn up in the light
Every time I look inside your eyes
Make me wanna die

Taste me, drink my soul
Show me all the things that I shouldn't know
And there's a new moon on the rise

I had everything
Opportunities for eternity
And I could belong to the night
Your eyes, your eyes
I can see in your eyes
Your eyes everything in your eyes, your eyes

You make me wanna die
I'll never be good enough
You make me wanna die
And everything you love will burn up in the light
Every time I look inside your eyes (burning in the light)
Make me wanna die

I'll die for you my love, my love
I'll lie for you my love, my love (make me wanna die)
I'll steal for you, my love, my love (make me wanna die)
I'll die for you my love, my love
Well burn up in the light

Every time I look inside your eyes
I'm burning in the light
Every time I look inside your eyes
I'm burning in the light
Every time I look inside your eyes
Make me wanna die

Opportunities for eternity, something we seem to forget. Some things can last forever.

Fathoms Below

I'm still hung up on finally getting back to the sea this past weekend. Sand castles, swimming at dusk... avoiding a shark but the bluebottles found me. Oh well, life's too short to not do silly things.

"Fathoms Below" starts one of my favourite movies of all time, The Little Mermaid. While we know that the ocean does indeed have a bottom and there is a limit as to just how many wonderful things we may find, I wonder if there really is a King Triton (or Neptune) or at least something as interesting.

I'll tell you a tale of the bottomless blue
And it's hey to the starboard, heave ho
Look out, lad, a mermaid be waiting for you
In mysterious fathoms below
From whence wayward Westerlies blow
Where Triton is king and his merpeople sing
In mysterious fathoms below

Heave ho
Heave ho

Heave ho
Heave ho
Heave ho
In mysterious fathoms below

I wonder what really lies at the bottom of the ocean, somehow I don't think we'll ever really know.

Tik Tok

Not the most glamorous track, but I've always said that it doesn't matter how many people are some place, that if I'm there, there will be a party. Had a great time this weekend, finally made it to the beach. I'm even a little stiff from all the digging, all I really did was build the moat. I wonder just how long that sand castle stood?

Today's tune, "Tik Tok" by Ke$ha is all about the party... and I know a few that were struggling on Saturday morning. While just the 4 of us, I think we were able to have enough fun.

Wake up in the mornin' feelin' like P- Diddy (Hey what's up girl)
Grab ma glasses I'm out the door I'm gonna hit the city (Let's go)
Before I leave brush ma teeth with a bottle of Jack
'Cuz when I leave for the night I ain't comin back

I'm talkin pedicure on our toes toes
Tryin on all our clothes clothes
Boys blowin' up our phones phones

Drop top and playin' our favorite CD's
Goin up to the parties
Tryna get a little bit tipsy

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Im'ma fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Im'ma fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

Aint got a care in world, but got plenty of beer
Aint got no money in my pocket, but I'm already here
Now, the dudes are lining up cause they hear we got swagger
But we kick em to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger

I'm talkin' bout - everybody getting crunk, crunk
Boys tryna touch my junk, junk
Gonna smack him if he getting too drunk, drunk
Now, now - we goin' til they kick us out, out
Or the police shut us down, down
Police shut us down, down
Po-po shut us - (down)-man

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Ima fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Im'ma fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

You build me up
You break me down
My heart, it pounds
Yeah, you got me
With my hands up
You got me now
You got that sound
Yeah, you got me

You build me up
You break me down
My heart, it pounds
Yeah, you got me
With my hands up
Put your hands up
Put your hands up

Now, the party don't start till I walk in

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Im'ma fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Im'ma fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

I've always said, the party starts when I get there. So guess the party don't start till I walk in.

Under the Sea

Headed off to the beach tomorrow!!! It's been just far too long.

So, today's tune is from "The Little Mermaid", one of my all time favourite movies. It's that crab, Sebastian with, "Under the Sea". Sebastian, he's a crab, is voiced by Samuel E. Wright.

The seaweed is always greener
In somebody else's lake

You dream about going up there
But that is a big mistake

Just look at the world around you
Right here on the ocean floor

Such wonderful things arround you
What more are you looking for

Under the sea, under the sea
Darlin it's better
Down where it's wetter,
Take it from me

Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away

While we devotin
Full time to floatin
Under the sea

Down here all the fish is happy
As off through the waves day roll

The fish on the land ain't happy
They're sad 'cause they in a bowl

But fish in the bowl is lucky
They're in for a worser fate

One day when the boss gets hungry
Guess whos goin on the plate (uh-oh)

Under the sea, under the sea
Nobody beats us
Fry us and eat us in fricasee

We what the land folks love to cook
Under the sea we off the hook

We got no troubles life is the bubbles

Under the sea, under the sea
Since life is sweet here
We got the beat here naturally

Even the strugeon and the ray
They get the urge and start to play

We got the spirit
You got to hear it under the sea

The newt play the flute
The carp play the harp
The plaice play the bass
And they're soundin sharp.
The bass play the brass
The chub play the tub
The fluke is the duke of soul
(yeah)

They ray he can play
He lings on the strings
He trout rockin out
The blackfish she sings
The smelt and the sprat
They know where it's at
And Oh. That blowfish blow

Under the sea (under the sea)
Under the sea (under the sea)

When the sardine
Begin the beguine it's music to me

What do they got, a lot of sand
We got a hot crustacean band

Each little clam here
Know how to jam here under the sea

Each little slug here
Cutin a rug here under the sea

Each little snail here
Know how to wail here
That's why it's hotter under the water
Ya' we in luck here
Down in the muck here under the sea!!

Yay... under the sea. I'll be sure to pack my Little Mermaid towel.

Papillon

While it's not that often that a music video can outdo the track it's supposed to support I really enjoyed this one. The music is kinda hard but the video seems to be even more so. Just running, running... and more running.

I just loved the video for "Papillon" by The Editors.

If you started running, took flight, would others join you, leave you? Would you eventually reach where you need to go? How badly to you really need to get there?

Make your escape, you're my own Papillon
The world turns too fast, feel love before it done
It kicks like a sleep twitch
My Papillon, feel love when it's done

It kicks like a sleep twitch !!

Darling, just don't put down your guns yet
If there really was a God here
He'd have raised a hand by now
Darling, you were born but you will die here
Oh that's quite enough for me too,
We'll find our own way home somehow.

No sense of doubt, for what you can achieve,
I'd help you out, I've seen the life you wish to lead.
Well it kicks like a sleep twitch
You will choke, choke on the air you try to breathe
It kicks like a sleep twitch

Darling, just don't put down your guns yet
if there really was a God here
He'd have raised a hand by now
Darling, you were born but I'm gonna die here
Well that's quite enough for me too
We'll find our own home somehow
It kicks like a sleep twitch

It kicks like a sleep twitch

Run, because life is pretty short. If you earn your wings, fly!

Mitternacht

Again I just love a piano. You just can't beat it for the pure yet rich full sound. This one by a German band is easily understandable to most who understand Afrikaans. Funny that... although I do think there's a little room for interpretation. But then again, isn't there always and, isn't that the joy of music?

"Mitternacht" from LaFee is one of those that I just fell in love with almost instantly (took me to about the second chord).

What else goes on in the evening while I too am unable to sleep. Do the angels scream or do they simply weep?

Nacht - es ist Nacht
Sie liegt vor Angst
Schon so lange wach
Dann - kommt wieder er
Sie spürt den Atem
Er will immer mehr

Liebe - er spricht von Liebe
Seine Liebe ist in ihr

Mitternacht - es ist Mitternacht
Und sie weint
Allein
Alle Träume sterben
Mitternacht - es ist Mitternacht
Und sie weint
Allein
Und alle Engel schreien heut´ Nacht

Kind - sie ist ein Kind
Es fließen leise
Tränen in den Wind
Kalt - ihr ist so kalt

Sie spürt die Hitze
Nah an seinem Hals

Liebe - er spricht von Liebe
Seine Liebe ist in ihr

Mitternacht - es ist Mitternacht
Und sie weint
Allein
Alle Träume sterben
Mitternacht - es ist Mitternacht
Und sie weint
Allein
Und alle Engel schreien heut´ Nacht

Mitternacht - es ist Mitternacht
Und sie weint
Allein
Alle Träume sterben
Mitternacht - es ist Mitternacht
Und sie weint

"Liebe - er spricht von Liebe" - Think it's time to start spreading the love.

The Kids Aren't Alright

I've spent quite a bit of time wondering about how exactly it is that I've reached this point in life. All those funny things that seem to have taken their toll, but have directed us none the less. Funny how things work out I suppose.

Today's tune, "The Kids Aren't Alright" by The Offspring kinda takes a look back at what was verses what now is. It's amazing how much potential there was (still is) and how so many let that just fade away, evaporate before their very eyes.

When we were young the future was so bright
The old neighborhood was so alive
And every kid on the whole damn street
Was gonna make it big and not be beat

Now the neighborhood's cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn
How can one little street
Swallow so many lives

Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams

Jamie had a chance, well she really did
Instead she dropped out and had a couple of kids
Mark still lives at home cause he's got no job
He just plays guitar and smokes a lot of pot

Jay committed suicide
Brandon OD'd and died
What the hell is going on
The cruelest dream, reality

Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams

Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams

Reality can be quite cruel. Makes you wonder why so many others then are surprised that I prefer to live in my own little world. I'll reject your reality and substitute my own.

No More Lies

Well, still no car but... hopefully today (that's always a hope). But back to travelling to and from work with Janine again. Back to the 80's rock! Gotta love it.

Okay so this come from the 2000's (2004 I think). "No More Lies" by Iron Maiden is just one of those tracks that rocks.

I love the lines, "But no regrets from me. Maybe I'll be back some other day." Life is far too short to have regrets, and far too short to not do stupid things.

There's a darkening sky before me.
There's no time to prepare.
Salvage a lost horizon
But no regrets from me.
Maybe i'll be back some other day. (some other day)
To live again, just who can say.
In what shape or form that i might be.
Just another chance for me.

A hurried time, no disgrace,
instead of racing to conclusion,
wishing all my life away,
no-one can stop me now.

Time is up, it couldn't last,
but there's more things i'd like to do,
i'm coming back,
to try again,
some day maybe i'll wait till then...
No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies

They're all sitting at my table.
Talking tall and drinking wine.
Their time is up just like me
but They just don't know it yet.
So just a word of warning
When you're in your deepest dreams.
There's nothing you can hide from.
I've got my eye on you.

The clock is fast. The hour is near.
Eventful past is everclear.
My life is set. The time is here.
I think i'm coming home...

No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies
No More Lies

I should have my car back today... no more lies!

Ode To My Car

Well, had a little car trouble of late, so here is an "Ode To My Car" by Adam Sandler. Can't really blame my poor car however, I have kinda just been running it into the ground. While may of my past vehicles have been chosen for their design or simply just because they were a fantastic vehicle to drive this poor car is simply a car to me. But it tries to keep going.

Here we go

Piece of shit car
I got a piece of shit car
That fuckin' pile of shit
Never gets me very far

My car's a big piece of shit
'Cause the shocks are fucking shot
And my seatbelt's fucking broken
I got to tie it in a knot
(It's a piece of shit)

I can't see through the windshield
'Cause it's got a big fucking' crack
And the interior smells real bad
'Cause my friend puked in the back
(It's a piece of shit)

(Piece of shit car)
Piece of shit car
(He's got a piece of shit car)
It sucks royal dick
(That fuckin' pile of shit)
100% crap
(Never gets him very far)
Oh fuck you car

It's got no CD player, it only got the 8-track
Whoever designed my car can lick my sweaty nut sack
(They can bite his ass too)
And I got no fuckin' brakes
I'm always way out of control
Eleven times a day I hear "Hey, watch it asshole"
(You fuckin' piece of shit)

(Piece of shit car)
I got piece of shit car
(He got a piece of shit car)
Diesel gas sucks my ass
(That fuckin' pile of shit)
That pile of metal shit
(Never gets him very far)

Oh what the fuck did I do
What the fuck did I do
What the fuck did I do
To get stuck with you
You're too wide for drive-thru
And you smell like the shoe
But I'm too broke to buy something new
Oh fuck me

Well the engine likes to flood
The car always fuckin' stalls
And the seat cushion's got a big rip
So a spring always pokes the balls
(Ouch, ouch, ouch)
Plus the door locks are busted
I gotta use a fucking coat hanger
(What a pain in his ass)
And if a girlie sees my car
There's no chance I'll ever bang her
(He never ever gets da pussy)
Hey shut up
(Piece of shit car)
You piece of shit car

(You got a piece of shit car)
You piece of shit car
(Piece of shit car)
Bald fuckin' tires
(You got a piece of shit car)
No rearview fucking mirror
(Piece of shit car)
Seven different colors
(You got a piece of shit car)
Fucking rag for a gas cap
(Piece of shit car)
Tailpipe makes the sparks fly everywhere
(You got a piece of shit car)
(Piece of shit car)
(You got a piece of shit car)
(Piece of shit car)
Oh the whole town thinks I'm a loser
(You got a piece of shit car)
Cabby give me a push
(Piece of shit car...)

Must admit, the poor little car.

Umbrella

Well after a little light banter via twitter with @jodenecoza over songs that involve rain, eventually I came back to the greatest parody video of all time. It seems these guys had a little extra time in the studio and decided to record "Umbrella" a cover of the Rihanna smash hit.

Vanilla Sky manage to add such humor to something that really was serious to start with. The message loses none of its meaning along the way.

I guess, if the artist puts something in you'll always get something out. Passion no matter the origin remains passion. You can't ever dismiss that. In so many ways music is my umbrella, stops much of life's rain.

You have my heart
And we'll never be worlds apart
May be in magazines
But you'll still be my star
Baby cause in the dark
You can't see shiny cars
And that's when you need me there
With you I'll always share
Because

When the sun shines, we’ll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be a friend
Took an oath I'ma stick it out till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we'll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella
You can stand under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh eh eh eh)

These fancy things, will never come in between
You're part of my entity, here for Infinity
When the war has took it's part
When the world has dealt it's cards
If the hand is hard, together we'll mend your heart
Because

When the sun shines, we’ll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be a friend
Took an oath I'ma stick it out till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we'll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella
You can stand under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh eh eh eh)

You can run into my arms
It's okay don't be alarmed
Come into to me
There's no distance in between our love
So go on and let the rain pour
I'll be all you need and more
Because

[Chorus]
When the sun shines, we’ll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be a friend
Took an oath I'ma stick it out till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we'll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella
You can stand under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh)
Under my umbrella
(Ella ella eh eh eh eh eh eh)

It's raining
Ooh baby it's raining
Baby come here to me
Come here to me
It's raining
Oh baby it's raining

Oh... I do believe it's raining!!!

Stand My Ground

Was playing this one yesterday while making dinner. "Stand My Ground" by Within Temptation just kind of stuck with me. Several deep meanings to this one, I think the main theme might be political. You can't continually keep a low profile pretending that things don't matter, does that ever feel right?

Sometimes we have to make a stand. Even if it's alone and seemingly fruitless at the time you've just got to try. Even in failure we often inspire others to continue the fight. Because in the end even if I can't make it, I hope that someone else will.

I can see
when you stay low nothing happens
Does it feel right?

Late at night
things I thought I'd put behind me
haunt my mind

I just know there's no escape now
once it's set its eyes on you
but I won't run, have to stare it in the eye

Stand my ground, I won't give in
No more denying, I gotta face it
Won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside
If I don't make it, someone else will
Stand My Ground

It's all around
getting stronger, coming closer
into my world

I can feel
that it's time for me to face it
can I take it?

Though this might just be the ending
of the life I held so dear
but I won't run, there's no turning back from here

Stand my ground, I won't give in
No more denying, I gotta face it
Won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside
If I don't make it, someone else will
Stand My Ground

All I know for sure is I'm trying
I will always stand my ground

Stand my ground, I won't give in (I won't give in)
I won't give up (I won't give up)
no more denying, I got to face it
won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside
if I don't make it, someone else will

Stand my ground, I won't give in
No more denying, I gotta face it
Won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside
If I don't make it, someone else will
Stand My Ground.

Eventually every candle will burn out, that doesn't mean that the flame has to die with it.

Rose of Sharyn

It's here!! Friday! Yeah, okay so I'm excited, I always am as the weekend approaches.

Today's tune, "Rose of Sharyn", by Killswitch Engage is really quite an emotional one despite the more thrashy genre that defines the band. It's said that it was originally written after Howard's mother died... I can believe that.

Numb and broken,
Here I stand alone,
Wondering what were
The last words I said to you
Hoping, praying that I'll find a way
To turn back time,
Can I turn back time?

What would I give to behold.
The smile the face of love,
You never left me,
The rising sun
Will always speak your name.

Numb and broken,
Here I stand alone,
Wondering what were
The last words I said to you
It won't be long
We'll meet again...

Rock
What would I give (What would I give), to behold
The smile, the face of love?
You never left me (You Never Left Me)
The rising sun
Will always speak your name

It won't be long, we'll meet again
Your memory is never passing
It won't be long, we'll meet again
My love for you is everlasting.

I mourn for those who never knew you
I mourn (I mourn) for those (for those) who never knew you (who never knew you)

It won't be long, we'll meet again
Your memory is never passing
It won't be long, we'll meet again
My love for you is everlasting.

It won't be long, we'll meet again..
It won't be long, we'll meet again..
It won't be long, we'll meet again..
It won't be long, we'll meet again..

It's often said that nothing lasts forever, but I'd argue that. It's what I do.

The Great Beyond

This song was stuck in my head as I drove into work this morning. Mostly because of the single line, "I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs". How often do we think we're doing just that, trying to do the impossible?

"The Great Beyond" by R.E.M. poses a load of questions by simply making nonsensical statements. Ultimately the questions remain, how or why. Kind of like one very big illusion.

I've watched the stars fall silent from your eyes
All the sights that I have seen
I can't believe that I believed I wished
That you could see
There's a new planet in the solar system
There is nothing up my sleeve

I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs
I'm tossing up punch lines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground

In all this talk of time
Talk is fine
But I don't want to stay around
Why can't we pantomime, just close our eyes
And sleep sweet dreams
Me and you with wings on our feet

I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs
I'm tossing up punch lines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground

I'm breaking through
I'm bending spoons
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom
I'm looking for answers from the great beyond

I want the hummingbirds, the dancing bears
Sweetest dreams of you
I Look into the stars
I Look into the moon

I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs
I'm tossing up punch lines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground

I'm breaking through
I'm bending spoons
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom
I'm looking for answers from the great beyond

I'm breaking through
I'm bending spoons
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom
I'm looking for answers from the great
Answers from the great, answers

I'm breaking through
I'm bending spoons
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom
I'm looking for answers from the great beyond

I'm breaking through
I'm bending spoons
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom
I'm looking for answers from the great
Answers from the great, answers

I'm breaking through
I'm bending spoons
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom
I'm looking for answers from the great beyond

There's got to be an easier way to get that elephant up the stairs?

The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

Last night was possibly one of my most comfortable nights sleep in ages. The reason, the temperature stayed above 20 for the evening (apparently the overnight low was 21). For most this becomes a little uncomfortable, but those that know me would also know that I was still under my duvet and blanket.

Summer is well and truly on it's way... now just for a thunderstorm or two.

Today's tune "The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow" from the movie Annie (sung by Aileen Quinn playing Annie) pretty much sums up the joy of today. It's the small things in life.

The sun'll come out
Tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar
That tomorrow
There'll be sun!
Just thinkin' about
Tomorrow
Clears away the cobwebs,
And the sorrow
'Til there's none!
When I'm stuck a day
That's gray,
And lonely,
I just stick out my chin
And Grin,
And Say,
Oh
The sun'll come out
Tomorrow
So ya gotta hang on
'Til tomorrow
Come what may
Tomorrow!
Tomorrow!
I love ya
Tomorrow!
You're always
A day
A way!

Gotta love a little sunshine!

Memory

I've always enjoyed Sarah Brightman (although what was she thinking when doing "Starship Tooper"?) but for reasons unknown to me, this one just popped into my head on my way into work this morning.

"Memory" from Cats is a sombre thought on what once was. I guess we all can look back and see just how wonderful things may have been, or at least the potential. Thing is we only ever move in one direction.

Midnight, Not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory?
She is smiling alone
In the lamplight
The withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan

Memory, All alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
I was beautiful then
I remember
The time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again

Every street lamp
Seems to beat
A fatalistic warning
Someone mutters
And a street lamp gutters
And soon it will be morning

Daylight, I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life
And I mustn't give in
When the dawn comes
Tonight will be a memory too
And a new life will begin

Burnt out ends of smoky days
The stale cold smell of morning
The street lamp dies
Another night is over
Another day is dawning

Touch me, It's so easy to leave me
All alone with my memory
Of my days in the sun
If you touch me
You'll understand what happiness is
Look a new day has begun...

Every new day is a whole new life.
