Earth Song

Today is World Rhino Day and while my views on conservation may not match most other people's feelings on the matter, a moment should still be taken to consider what we can and more importantly what we will do for the cause.

"Earth Song" by Michael Jackson asks all those questions that really needed to be asked. Do people really and truly care? I mean it's fine and well to sign all those online petitions... even to wear black on spring day... but when push comes to shove what would you really do? How far would you honestly go to make a difference? How much damage do we do by simply doing nothing?

What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain...
What about killing fields
Is there a time
What about all the things
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we've shed before
Did you ever stop to notice
This crying Earth these weeping shores?

Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo
Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo

What have we done to the world
Look what we've done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son...
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
This crying Earth these weeping shores

Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo
Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo

I used to dream
I used to glance beyond the stars
Now I don't know where we are
Although I know we've drifted far

Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo
Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo
Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo
Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo

Hey, what about yesterday
(What about us)
What about the seas
(What about us)
The heavens are falling down
(What about us)
I can't even breathe
(What about us)
What about apathy
(What about us)
I need you
(What about us)
What about nature's worth
(ooo, ooo)
It's our planet's womb
(What about us)
What about animals
(What about it)
We've turned kingdoms to dust
(What about us)
What about elephants
(What about us)
Have we lost their trust
(What about us)
What about crying whales
(What about us)
We're ravaging the seas
(What about us)
What about forest trails
(ooo, ooo)
Burnt despite our pleas
(What about us)
What about the holy land
(What about it)
Torn apart by greed
(What about us)
What about the common man
(What about us)
Can't we set him free
(What about us)
What about children dying
(What about us)
Can't you hear them cry
(What about us)
Where did we go wrong
(ooo, ooo)
Someone tell me why
(What about us)
What about baby boy
(What about it)
What about the days
(What about us)
What about all their joy
(What about us)
What about the man
(What about us)
What about the crying man
(What about us)
What about Abraham
(What was us)
What about death again
(ooo, ooo)
Do we give a damn

Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo

Pretend all you want, do you really give a damn?

Dirty Diana

Surprisingly I've not added anything by Michael Jackson to this blog to date, which in many ways has to be wrong! Love him or hate him, Michael Jackson was a legend.

This one I was reminded of via Twitter this morning as it had suddenly crept up on someone else. "Dirty Diana" has to be one of the more rock style tracks that Michael put down over the years. This is one of the mans tracks that occasionally make its way onto my play list.

Oh No . . .
Oh No . . .
Oh No . . .

You'll Never Make Me Stay
So Take Your Weight Off Of Me
I Know Your Every Move
So Won't You Just Let Me Be?
I've Been Here Times Before
But I Was Too Blind To See
That You Seduce Every Man
This Time You Won't Seduce Me

She's Saying "That's Ok
Hey Baby Do What You Please
I Have The Stuff That You Want
I Am The Thing That You Need"
She Looked Me Deep In The Eyes
She's Touchin' Me So To Start
She Says There's No Turnin' Back
She Trapped Me In Her Heart

Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, No
Dirty Diana
Let Me Be!

Oh No . . .
Oh No . . .
Oh No . . .

She Likes The Boys In The Band
She Knows When They Come To Town
Every Musician's Fan
After The Curtain Comes Down
She Waits At Backstage Doors
For Those Who Have Prestige
Who Promise Fortune And Fame
A Life That's So Carefree
She's Saying "That's Ok
Hey Baby Do What You Want
I'll Be Your Night Lovin' Thing
I'll Be The Freak You Can Taunt
And I Don't Care What You Say
I Want To Go Too Far
I'll Be Your Everything
If You Make Me A Star"

Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, No
Dirty Diana . . .
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, No
Dirty Diana . . .
Diana!
Diana!
Dirty Diana!
It's Dia . . .Aa . . .Aa . . .
Come On!

She Said "I Have To Go Home
'Cause I'm Real Tired You See
Now I Hate Sleepin' Alone
Why Don't You Come With Me?"
I Said "My Baby's At Home
She's Probably Worried Tonight
I Didn't Call On The Phone
To Say That I'm Alright"

Diana Walked Up To Me,
She Said "I'm All Yours Tonight"
And Then I Ran To The Phone
Sayin' "Baby I'm Alright"
I Said "But Unlock The Door
'Cause I Forgot The Key"
She Said "He's Not Coming Back
Because He's Sleeping With Me"

Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, No
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana . . .
Come On!
Come On!
Come On!
Come On!...

I think we all have a "Dirty Diana" somewhere in our past, I think it's best that they stay there.
