The Wind Beneath My Wings

A strange selection today. I must confess however that I do much prefer the Sonata Arctica cover of Bette Midler classic. Yup... it can be done.

"The Wind Beneath My Wings" is a tribute to all out there that have managed to get through adversity and basically life in general (nobody said would be easy, wish they had said it could be this hard) and help get me to where I am today. I just hope that I've been able to convey that message... but somehow think they understand.

It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight in your face
And you can content to let me shine
You always walked a step behind.

I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strength
Only a face without a name
I never once heard you complain.

Did you ever know that you're my hero
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
Cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed
but I've got it all here in my heart
I want you to know, I know the truth, yes i do
I would be nothing without you.

Did you ever know that you're my hero
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
Cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

Did you ever know that you're my hero
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
Cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

Did you ever know that you're my hero
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
Cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

Cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
Cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
Cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

I just hope you know. :)

Replica

Been going through my older stuff a lot lately and while this is hardly old... it's a classic of mine.

I guess with so much conflict going on in the world at the moment it won't be long before the question gets asked again, "What becomes of a soldier after the war?"

Wars are fought on a continual basis. Many within, I think that along the way many of us are left hollow after personal defeats, nothing but a shell of who we once were.

"Replica" by Sonata Arctica covers the war aspect quite well here. Perhaps some wars should never be entered into when all you're likely to end up with is a loss of self.

I'm home again, I won the war, and now I am behind
your door. I tried so hard to obey the law, and see the
meaning of this all. Remember me? Before the war.
I'm the man who lived next door. Long ago...

As you can see, when you look at me, I'm pieces of
what I used to be. It's easier when you don't see me
standing on my own two feet. I'm taller when I sit
here still, you ask are all my dreams fulfilled.
They made me a heart of steel, the kind them bullets
cannot see, yeah...

Nothing's what it seems to be,
I'm a replica, I'm a replica
Empty shell inside of me
I'm not myself, I'm a replica of me...

The light is green, my slate is clean, new life to fill
the hole in me. I had no name, last December, Christmas
Eve I can't remember. I was in a constant pain, I saw
your shadow in the rain. I painted all your pictures red,
I wish I had stayed home instead.yeah!!

Nothing's what it seems to be,
I'm a replica, I'm a replica
Empty shell inside of me
I'm not myself, I'm a replica of me...

Are you gonna leave me now, when it is all over
Are you gonna leave me, is my world now over...

Raising from the place I've been, and trying to keep
my home base clean. Now I'm here and won't go back believe.

I fall asleep and dream a dream, I'm floating in the
silent stream. No-one placing blame on me
But nothing's what it seems to be, yeah!!

Nothing's what it seems to be,
I'm a replica, I'm a replica
Empty shell inside of me
I'm not myself, I'm a replica

Nothing's what it seems to be,
I'm a replica.
Empty shell inside of me
I'm a replica. (repeat)

Nothing's what it seems to be,
I'm a replica
Empty shell inside of me
I'm a replica of me.....

I'm home again, I won the war, and now I am behind
the door. I tried so hard to obey the law, see the
meaning of this all. Remember me? Before the war.
I'm the man who lived...

Sometimes it may seem that the wars we've fought have taken a piece (or even the whole of who we are), never let anyone take you away. Sometimes it's best to break the law and end what ever commitment that may be.

The Power of One

Again, this one surprises me. I can't believe that I haven't added anything by Sonata Arctica yet! I'm sure the search function here simply doesn't work. Anyhow...

Sonata Arctica are a rock/metal band that hail from the "edge of the world, in the northern Finnish town of Kemi". This explains a lot about their used of the English language, structure of sentences and pronunciation. That said, it's song, you have creative license and are encouraged to use it when you can.

Today's tune "The Power of One" kinda goes out to all those at the moment in one way or another protesting, feeling oppressed or those that feel that they just don't have a choice in the matter (no matter how big or small their situation may feel to them or others).

(spoken)
"My father’s land, my mother’s tongue
Misleading me so shamelessly
For many years I misbelieved
The hatred is the path for me..."

Father I have killed many angels,
I think
I will now walk to the sea.
I hope I will someday forgive me
Please moor
my empty boat on a pier

I can blame for the blue blood that runs in my veins.
But I seem to forget that we are all the same.

In your own blaze of hate you've spawned the fear in many lives
You've taken action thinking it was all said on the signs.
You cannot heal the feeling burning deep inside your spine
You now collapse, cave-in revealing scabby marks of life

Mother I've seen too much, I hate to live my life.
Forgot every word you told me, stubborn little child, (angel of your life)
I have to find my Eden now, the gates I left behind.
But the pain will remain.
No power to gain.

Now I have time to dwell on, self awareness, dreadful crime.
I saw the colors too bright, not knowing that I was blind.
I slayed a man who took a chance and drank the forbidden wine.
The map I draw reveals that I have been complete, machine, in team.

Father I've seen too much, I hate to live my life.
Forgot every word you told me. Stubborn little child, (angel of your life)
I have to find my Eden now, the gates I left behind.
The pain will remain.
No power to gain. No!

Mother where's your son.
When has this begun?
Who has been the fool?

No one was born to be a servant or a slave.
Who can tell me the color of the rain?
In the world that we live in, the things said and done
They can well overrun
The power of one!

No one was born to be a servant or a slave.
Can you tell me the color of the rain?
In the world that we live in, the things said and done
They can well overrun
The power of one.

To live and let die
To give hope and take life
Is that what you're here for?

To think that you are right
To make sure it won't fly
Is the making of a hate crime

In the lands of the brave,
In the homes of the land slaves,
We are all the same

I need to believe.
There's more than the eye can see
All colors of rainbow.

No one was born to be a slave
Seek the past and place the blame
Tell me the color of the rain
No one was born to be a master

In the land we live, we die
praise the oneness, praise the lie
To bind a web around the faker
We will need a true
Rainmaker

No one was born to be a slave
Seek the past and place the blame
Tell me the color of the rain
No one was born to be a master

(spoken)
"Children of Abel, Children of Cain
Can live in harmony, without shame
The keys that I grant thee, The Sacred Land
Are dry desert sand on the palm of your hand
Without the water, the wisdom of past
Will run through your fingers, forgotten so fast
Thus now when I leave you, I'm truly blind
This blindness, this blessing, the hope of mankind..."

I think the closing is about as good as it gets. Perhaps if we could somehow retain wisdom of the past while remaining blind to the hatred that's hindered so much then maybe this blessing will offer us all a little hope.
