Speed of Pain

Well, desperately trying to get a tune written. Hopefully my brother sends me a recording of our "collaboration" soon. Yup, we'll form the greatest band the world has ever seen and we'll call ourselves Tenacious C.

Moving onto today's tune. A real masterpiece, or should I say a piece of a masterpiece. Marilyn Manson's "Mechanical Animals" has to be one of the greatest albums of all time. I think this might just have been one of the best pieces of satire to have been written in music - or maybe I missed the whole boat all together? In any even I love it.

"Speed of Pain" from Mechanical Animals is a strange arrangement, that can only really be done acoustically. A strange yet fascinating approach from what can only be described as shock rocker (even if I call him more Glam Rock).

They slit our throats
Like we were flowers
And our milk has been
devoured

When you want it
it goes away too fast
Times you hate it
It always seems to last
But just remember when you think
You're free
The crack inside your fucking heart is me

I wanna outrace the speed of pain for another day

I wish I could sleep
But I can't lay on my back
Because there's a knife
For everyday that I've known you

When you want it
it goes away too fast
Times you hate it
It always seems to last
But just remember when you think
You're free
The crack inside your fucking heart is me

I wanna outrace the speed of pain for another day

Lie to me, cry to me, give to me
I would
Lie with me, die with me, give to me
I would
Keep all your secrets wrapped in dead hair
I hope at least we die holding hands
For always

The problem with outracing the speed of pain, is you miss out on so much in-between.

Coma White

I've always enjoyed Marilyn Manson, mostly because I think he has to be the greatest satirist of at least my time. Well, that is what I get from the Mechanical Animals album.

I guess you can get just about any meaning from any song if you look for it. I just love the lines, "But all drugs in this world, won't save her from herself". I think we've moved into a society where there are far too many quick fixes. Where people honestly believe a pill can fix just about anything without having to do any of the hard work themselves.

There,s something cold and blank behind her smile
She's standing on an overpass
In her miracle mile

"You were from a perfect world
A world that threw me away today
Today today to run away"

A pill to make you numb
A pill to make you dumb
A pill to make you anybody else
But all the drugs in this world
Won't save her from herself

Her mouth was an empty cut
And she was waiting to fall
Just bleeding like a polaroid that
Lost all her dolls
(coma):
"You were from a perfect world
A world that threw me away today
Today to run away

A pill to make you numb
A pill to make you dumb
(chorus repeat)

The only one that can save you from yourself is you.
