Goodbye to You

Today's tune is inspired by a phone call on Friday night. Guess I've gotten a lot further down the road than I've realised. Wondering what I would say... how much had been left unsaid and unanswered. But after a few harsh words aimed at me I simply hung up. Not even worth the effort.

So, all I really have to say is "Goodbye to You". Michelle Branch does a fantastic job of bringing a lot of emotion both hard and yet so gentle with this one. I've realised that there is no point in trying to explain just how much they may have hurt you mostly because words can't really do that but more importantly because they'll never know how it feels to truly love somebody.

How many years pretending?

Of all the things I believed in
I just want to get it over with
Tears form behind my eyes
But I do not cry
Counting the days that pass me by

I've been searching deep down in my soul
words that I'm hearing are starting to get old
It feels like I'm starting all over again
The last three years were just pretend
And I said...

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold onto

I still get lost in your eyes
And it seems that I can't live a day without you
Closing my eyes
And you chase my thoughts away
To a place where I am blinded by the light
But it's not right

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold on to
Oh, woah

And it hurts to want everything and nothing at the same time
I want what's yours and I want what's mine
I want you
But I'm not giving in this time

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything that I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold onto

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold onto
The one thing that I tried to hold onto

Oh Woah
And when the stars fall I will lie awake
You're my shooting star

Yeah, I know I've posted this one before, but sometimes you just need to repeat something to ensure it sinks in.

Memories

Seems there has been much tragedy the world over in the past few days. Then again it could be a case of more simply being brought to attention that much quicker. Who knows?

Today's song, "Memories" by Within Temptation tells the tale of how memories can be used to hang on.

But as Rikku points out, "Memories are nice, but that's all they are." How long can you really hold on before you have to let go, one way or another. But for now I'll just wait for those silent moments, looking for a sign.

(whispering) Memories, memories, memories

In this world you tried
Not leaving me alone behind
There's no other way
I'll pray to the gods: let him stay

The memories ease the pain inside
Now I know why

All of my memories
Keep you near
In silent moments
Imagine you'd be here
All of my memories
Keep you near
The silent whispers, silent tears

Made me promise I'd try
To find my way back in this life
I hope there is away
To give me a sign you're okay
Reminds me again
It's worth it all
So I can go home

All of my memories
Keep you near
In silent moments
Imagine you'd be here
All of my memories
Keep you near
The silent whispers, silent tears

Together in all these memories
I see your smile
All the memories I hold dear
Darling you know I love you till the end of time

All of my memories
Keep you near
In silent moments
Imagine you'd be here
All of my memories
Keep you near
The silent whispers, silent tears

Pray to the gods... then again, when it's my turn to play god, things will be different that much I'll promise.

Living is a Problem Because Everything Dies

What a crazy weekend. Everywhere you read of tragic news. Think I should just stop reading.

Today's song sounds kind of morose but is really a case of time is ticking, get on with it. "Living is a Problem Because Everything Dies" by Biffy Clyro is about the eternal lack of time. Isn't that somewhat ironic, it's the only thing that'll ever stand the test of time, the simple lack of it.

Come on baby do you think it's good to feel
Like I'm lying here swimming in memories
I fear God because everything dies babe
Got a gun in the back of my car
A spasm of good sense is making my eye twitch
I've had enough of all your consolation

I'm drowning caught in a shit tide
Tape my face to the inside of love
Nothing to eat but fears in the back seat
Well I've met God and he had nothing to say to me

I pray to God that you're right before my eyes
Bathed in white light with halos in your eyes

Don't wanna waste no more time
Time's what we don't have
Everywhere I look someone dies
Wonder when it's my turn

How well do you know me?
Leave an open door, what you looking for
Babe when you come down?
I built a time machine to escape from
All the pain in the back of my car
Living's a problem because everything dies babe
Save yourself you're not too far away

I pray to God that you're right before my eyes
Bathed in white light with halos in your eyes

Don't wanna waste no more time
Time's what we don't have
Everywhere I look someone dies
Wonder when it's my turn

I guess most don't realise just how little time there really is. It's the one thing you can't replace.

We Are The League

It's Friday, you know "Friday, gotta get down on Friday" and all that. Gotta love that awful song. So in the name of all things horrible and cheesy I'm going to lighten the mood a heck of a lot.

"We Are The League" by the Anti-Nowhere League is yet another one of their rants. It lacks any real style, decent lyrics... or just about anything that would make it a genuine song. Then again, as the song goes, I don't think that was the plan or even their care at the time, or ever for that matter.

We are the League!

Another boring night and I'm feeling pissed
My head's fucked up and I'm in a mess
Too many drugs, they make me high
I wanna cause havoc, I wanna die

We are the League, and we're the extra man
We are the League, and we are the anti-band
And don't you say you're feeling bored
The League are here and we are scorned

We are the League
We are the League
We are the League
The Anti-Nowhere League

You criticise us, you say we're shit
But we're up here and we're doing it
So don't you criticise the things we do
No fucker pays to go and see you

We are the League and we are mad
We are the League and the music's bad
Fuck-up noise like you've never known
We'll make you wish you'd stayed at home

We are the League
We are the League
We are the League
The Anti-Nowhere League

But we ain't no dogs, we ain't no man
We hate the things we don't understand
A time for love, but that ain't class
If you don't fucking like it stuff it up your arse

We are the League and we are mean
We are the League and we're obscene
Don't give a toss what you think
And all your views they fucking stink

We are the League
We are the League
We are the League
And don't fuck with the League!

Still so very, very offensive... but I can't help but laugh. Yup, they were up there doing it.

Price Tag

I look around and see how much value people put on what they think they're worth, what they own... what they look like, etc. and realise that despite so many saying that they don't have a price that indeed they do. Often those that claim it have a lower price than they might realise.

Today's tune, "Price Tag" by Jessie J pretty much sums this up. The world is far too serious and there really are too few people simply stopping to smile.

I'll happily admit that I've got a price... but it's not money, it's mostly ruled by those things that I can't buy... can only really be given.

Seems like everybody's got a price,
I wonder how they sleep at night.
When the sale comes first,
And the truth comes second,
Just stop, for a minute and
Smile

Why is everybody so serious!
Acting so damn mysterious
You got your shades on your eyes
And your heels so high
That you can't even have a good time.

Everybody look to their left (yeah)
Everybody look to their right (ha)
Can you feel that (yeah)
We'll pay them with love tonight...

It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the Price Tag

Ain't about the (uh) Ka-Ching Ka-Ching.
Ain't about the (yeah) Ba-Bling Ba-Bling
Wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the Price Tag.

We need to take it back in time,
When music made us all UNITE!
And it wasn't low blows and video Hoes,
Am I the only one getting... tired?

Why is everybody so obsessed?
Money can't buy us happiness
Can we all slow down and enjoy right now
Guarantee we'll be feeling
Alright.

Everybody look to their left (yeah)
Everybody look to their right (ha)
Can you feel that (yeah)
We'll pay them with love tonight...

It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the Price Tag

Yeah yeah
Well, keep the price tag
And take the cash back
Just give me six strings and a half stack
And you can keep the cars
Leave me the garage
And all I, yes all I need
Are keys and guitars
And guess what, in 30 seconds
I'm leaving to Mars
Yeah we leaving across
These undefeatable odds
It's like this man
You can't put a price on life
We do this for the love
So we fight and sacrifice
Every night
So we ain't gonna stumble and fall
Never
Waiting to see, a sign of defeat
Uh uh
So we gonna keep everyone
Moving their feet
So bring back the beat
And then everyone sing
It's not about the money

It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the Price Tag

It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the Price Tag

Yeah yeah
Oh-oh
Forget about the price tag

People place way too much value on physical possessions, yet the greatest things you'll ever have you simply can't put a price on.

The Moment

Ever consider how it was some of our more difficult moments that lead to moments of true brilliance or triumph?

Today's song from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, "The Moment" covers some of Beethoven's more painful memories that ultimately became some of his greatest inspiration. If we can take a moment and use these points in our lives, surely then, we can make something truly great from something otherwise?

In this world of circumstance
Children never fear forever
And this moment that enchants
Someday we may both remember

Then
Maybe then
If we are still alive
Then
Maybe then
This moment will survive

Here is time in every word
There are words in every reason
And these notes that are unheard
One day they may find their season

Then
Maybe then
If we are still alive
Then
Maybe then
This moment will survive

Then
Maybe then
If we are still alive
Then
Maybe then
This moment will survive

Ultimately we should never fear forever of anything, we should somehow take the good from everything and make that moment survive.

I Want to Break Free

Been thinking it's about time for a change. Planned a haircut a while back... didn't get round to it, but think it's about time. As Cosmo pointed out a bad hair day is a bad day but to change life up entirely it's about time you change your hairdo. Okay, I'm not going to ever really short back and sides guy, but a serious trim is on the cards. It's time for change...

Think the music video and Freddie simply being Freddie gives this song a lot of weighted meaning in one direction, but as with all great songs you can always take a lot more more from the track that face value.

Change and progression is the inspiration for today's song, "I Want to Break Free" by Queen. Sometimes we simply need to break free, be it from the barriers that society place upon us or worse yet those that we impose upon ourselves.

I guess the time comes that we all need to break free. Be it one way or another.

I want to break free
I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
You're so self-satisfied I don't need you
I got to to break free
God knows, God knows I want to break free

I've fallen in love
I've fallen in love for the first time
And this time I know it's for real
I've fallen in love, yeah
God knows, God knows I've fallen in love

It's strange but it's true (hey yea)
I can't get over the way you love me like you do
But I have to be sure
When I walk out that door
Oh how I want to be free baby
Oh how I want to be free
Oh how I want to break free

(INSTRUMENTAL INTERLUDE)

But life still goes on
I can't get used to living without, living without, living without you
by my side
I don't want to live alone, hey
God knows got to make it on my own
So baby can't you see
I've got to break free

I've got to break free
I want to break free, yeah

I want I want I want I want to break free…

Perhaps it it is time for a bit of a change? After all, a change is as good as a holiday.

Back to a Reason

I spent a great weekend curled up warm. Can't say that it's the best of times because I simply despise winter. I long for the sun, so much so that I'm sure I'm solar powered.

But I did get to spend a lot of time with my little Jet (the worlds most awesome kitty). It's nice to be able to look back upon many things, many changes and know that the choices you make are the right ones. Hindsight, it's 20/20 and I'm glad that my focus was good.

"Back to a Reason" by Savatage concludes their Poets and Madmen album. If I were to pick a conclusion to all things this might just be right up there, well with "when you wish upon a star". I hope that no matter what I manage to keep the focus on that which matters most.

Time
Standing all alone
I bled for you
I wanted to
Each drop my own

Slowly they depart
But fall in vain
Like desert rain
And still they fall on and on and on

Got to get back to a reason
Got to get back to a reason I once knew
And this late in the seasons
One by one distractions fade from view

So
Drifting through the dark
The sympathy
Of night's mercy
Inside my heart
Is your life the same
Do ghosts cry tears
Do they feel years
As time just goes on and on and on

Got to get back to a reason
Got to get back to a reason I once knew
And this late in the seasons
One by one distractions fade from view

Years come around
Men can be found
Following orders
Years come around
Planning is sound
Promises made
Years come around
Tears on the ground
Blood stains the borders
Leaders abound
Chances are down
No one's been saved

Give me one reason
For this dark treason
Every chance unsaid
Turn around
All dead
What went wrong

...

Give me one reason
For this dark treason
Every chance unsaid
Turn around
All dead
What went wrong

Drink until you drown
What else can I say
When you're falling down
You seek the ground
It's never far away

Can you live your life
Completely in a fall
Until you're found
Well underground
Your marker very small

As my world it keeps on spinning round

Have to get away
Have to ease the pain
I embrace the morphine child
And pump it in my veins

Burning through my heart
Fills in every hole
Makes my mind so blissful numb
And replaces my soul

Every moment drags me further
Down down down down down down...

Got to get back to a reason
Got to get back to a reason I once knew
And this late in the seasons
One by one distractions fade from view
The only reason I have left...
Is you

Every once in a while it's nice to stop and refocus on that one thing that remains a point of reason, at the end of all things, it always comes back to that one last reason.

Northern Star

The discussion in the office a little while back came down to who was better, Britney or Christina... while the answer there is really quite simple, it did beg a valid question (that went unasked) who was actually the best over this time.

Anyone remember the Spice Girls? Didn't really think so... okay, so how could you forget them - especially as a mate of mine is their biggest fan. But they didn't really stand the test of time. Guess that's the joy of popular music, it's popular because it's very much a fad at the time.

Today's song, "Northern Star" by Melanie Chisholm (Mel C) or better known as Sporty Spice made me realise just how underrated she was as an actual singer. Easily the best out of the five of them in my books.

"Northern Star" is one of those that you hear and it only really hits you much later. Ultimately we're all a star (something about that awesomeness pill) but we forget or simply lose a little light along the way. Ultimately we can all be that leading light for others, or even ourselves.

They tried to catch a falling star.
Thinking that she had gone too far.
She did but kept it hidden well.
Until she cracked and then she fell.

If all the history is true.
She's gonna end up just like you.
You made it to the other side.
But tell me who will be my guide.

They build you up so they can tear you down.
Trust the ocean you'll never drown.
Who is next? Who's gonna steal your crown?
You'll see.

I have learnt my lesson well.
The truth is out there I can tell.
Don't look back and don't give in to their lies and goodbyes.
Northern Star.

Fulfil the longing in your heart.
Then we will never be apart.
And if they dare to question you.
Just tell them that our love is true.

They buy your dreams so they can sell your soul.
Is it any wonder we've lost control?
Feelings come, feelings go.

I have learnt my lesson well.
The truth is out there I can tell.
Don't look back and don't succumb to their lies and goodbyes.
Live your life without regret.
Don't be someone who they forget.
When you're lost reach out for me.
And you'll see she's not far.
Northern Star.
Northern Star.

Northern Star.

No regrets, and while you're at it, might as well make it memorable.

Start Me Up

In a previous life I'm pretty sure that I was a rockstar. Heck maybe even Beethoven himself... or not. In any event, I think that far too many up and coming musicians lack the "showboating" that one really needs for being a successful act.

Today's song, "Start Me Up" by the The Rolling Stones has to be one of the funniest videos because of Mick. Lets face it, he certainly could, "Show some Boat". At the end of it all, the performance is supposed to be entertaining, one way or the other, that is why the likes of Ozzy, Alice and yes, even Britney remain so popular. It's all about the show.

The video for this however, well that's a whole other story.

If you start me up
If you start me up I'll never stop
If you start me up
If you start me up I'll never stop
I've been running hot
You got me ticking gonna blow my top
If you start me up
If you start me up I'll never stop
Never stop, never stop, never stop

You make a grown man cry (x3)
Spread out the oil, the gasoline
I walk smooth, ride in a mean, mean machine
Start it up

If you start it up
Kick on the starter give it all you got, you got, you got
I can't compete with the riders in the other heats
If you rough it up
If you like it you can slide it up,
Slide it up, slide it up, slide it up

Don't make a grown man cry (x3)
My eyes dilate, my lips go green
My hands are greasy
She's a mean, mean machine
Start it up

If start me up
Ahh... give it all you got
You got to never, never, never stop
Slide it up, baby just slide it up
Slide it up, slide it up, never, never, never

You make a grown man cry (x3)
Ride like the wind at double speed
I'll take you places that you've never, never seen
If you start it up
Love the day when we will never stop, never stop
Never, never, never stop
Tough me up
Never stop, never stop

You, you, you make a grown man cry
You, you make a dead man come
You, you make a dead man come

Nothing like an aging rocker in a skintight cat suit!

I Wanna Go

Yeah, I know it's super cheesy, but I'll happily confess that I'm the worlds biggest Britney fan. After all, who can't hear one of her songs and not smile or chuckle? Nobody said you had to take it seriously!

So today we'll go back to a real winner, "I Wanna Go" by Britney is another I heard first thing this morning... and, it just makes me happy.

Lately I been stuck imagining
What I wanna do and what I really think,
time to flow out
Be a little inappropriate
'Cause I know that everybody's thinkin' it
when the lights out

Shame on me
To need release
Uncontrollably

I wanna go all the way
Taking out my freak tonight
I wanna show
All the dirt
I am running through my mind

I wanna go all the way
Taking out my freak tonight
I wanna show
All the dirt
I am running through my mind

Lately people got me all tied up
There's a countdown waiting for me to erupt
Time to blow out
I've been told who I should do it with
To keep both my hands above the blanket
When the lights out

Shame on me
To need release
Uncontrollably

I wanna go all the way
Taking out my freak tonight
I wanna show
All the dirt
I am running through my mind

I wanna go all the way
Taking out my freak tonight
I wanna show
All the dirt
I am running through my mind

Shame on me (shame on me)
To need release (to need release)
Uncontrollably (uncontrollably)

I wanna go, all the way
Taking out my freak tonight
I wanna show
All the dirt
I am running through my mind

I wanna go, all the way
Taking out my freak tonight
I wanna show
All the dirt
I am running through my mind

Freaks... sure, why not, right?

Bye Bye Beautiful

Another one of those Facebook strikes today. I was YouTube'ing my way along when I arrived at this beauty.

"Bye Bye Beautiful" by Nightwish seems to put pure poetry in motion set against some rather angry chords. I guess that's the whole point behind this one. I get more a feeling of frustration behind this song. I think at times we're putting on a blindfold trying to hide something from view when the truth is we're not really seeing what is really there to begin with.

Finally the hills are without eyes
They are tired of painting a dead man's face red
With their own blood

They used to love having so much to lose
Blink your eyes just once and see everything in ruins

Did you ever hear what I told you?
Did you ever read what I wrote you?
Did you ever listen to what we played?
Did you ever let in what the world said?
Did we get this far just to feel your hate?
Did we play to become only pawns in the game?
How blind can you be, don't you see?
You chose the long road, but we'll be waiting

Bye, bye, beautiful!
Bye, bye, beautiful!

Jacob's ghost for the girl in white
Blindfold for the blind
Dead Siblings walking the dying earth

Noose around a choking heart
Eternity torn apart
So toll now the funeral bells

"No need to die to prove a lie"

Did you ever hear what I told you?
Did you ever read what I wrote you?
Did you ever listen to what we played?
Did you ever let in what the world said?
Did we get this far just to feel your hate?
Did we play to become only pawns in the game?
How blind can you be, don't you see?
You chose the long road, but we'll be waiting

Bye, bye, beautiful!
Bye, bye, beautiful!
Bye, bye, beautiful!
Bye, bye, beautiful!

It’s not the tree that forsakes the flower
But the flower that forsakes the tree
Someday I’ll learn to love these scars
Still fresh from the red-hot blade of your words

...How blind can you be, don’t you see...(x3)
...that the gambler lost all he does not have...

Did you ever hear what I told you?
Did you ever read what I wrote you?
Did you ever listen to what we played?
Did you ever let in what the words said?
Did we get this far just to feel your hate?
Did we play to become only pawns in the game?
How blind can you be, don’t you see?
You chose the long road but we’ll be waiting

Bye bye, beautiful
Bye bye, beautiful
Bye bye, beautiful
bye bye bye bye

You really do have to stop to hear, read, listen and feel... Most things carry a beauty about them but if you're not going to see it for what it is, simply say bye before you even got the chance.

Times Like These

Facebook strikes again, with a live video first thing this morning.

"Times Like These" by the Foo Fighters is one of those makes you stop and just take notice. So very, very simple yet really hits home. Beginnings and ends, you have to learn from them, learn to live, learn to give each and every time.

In the most difficult of times remember it really is times like these...

I am a one way motorway
I'm the one that drives away
then follows you back home
I am a street light shining
I'm a wild light blinding bright
burning off alone

it's times like these you learn to live again
it's times like these you give and give again
it's times like these you learn to love again
it's times like these time and time again

I am a new day rising
I'm a brand new sky
to hang the stars upon tonight
I am a little divided
do I stay or run away
and leave it all behind?

it's times like these you learn to live again
it's times like these you give and give again
it's times like these you learn to love again
it's times like these time and time again

It's times like these, a brand new day... we learn and we love.

Bleeding Love

What a weekend, great time with some great people. From the "Faulty Faeries" to the Head Banger's, young and old, a lot of fire and many familiar faces... and a heck of a lot of booze. It's great that while you may not have seen some folk for quite some time you can just pick up where you left off and carry on.

Today's song really is kinda random, based on the fact that I've managed to bash or cut every one of my fingers, but was cold enough to not feel much of it or bleed much either mind you.

So today's song, "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis comes to mind for more humorous reasons.

Closed off from love
I didn't need the pain
Once or twice was enough
And it was all in vain
Time starts to pass
Before you know it you're frozen

But something happened
For the very first time with you
My heart melts into the ground
Found something true
And everyone's looking round
Thinking I'm going crazy

But I don't care what they say
I'm in love with you
They try to pull me away
But they don't know the truth
My heart's crippled by the vein
That I keep on closing
You cut me open and I

Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding
I keep, keep bleeding love
Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
You cut me open

Trying hard not to hear
But they talk so loud
Their piercing sounds fill my ears
Try to fill me with doubt
Yet I know that the goal
Is to keep me from falling

But nothing's greater than the risk that comes with your embrace
And in this world of loneliness
I see your face
Yet everyone around me
Thinks that I'm going crazy, maybe, maybe

But I don't care what they say
I'm in love with you
They try to pull me away
But they don't know the truth
My heart's crippled by the vein
That I keep on closing
You cut me open and I

Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding
I keep, keep bleeding love
Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
You cut me open

And it's draining all of me
Oh they find it hard to believe
I'll be wearing these scars
For everyone to see

I don't care what they say
I'm in love with you
They try to pull me away
But they don't know the truth
My heart's crippled by the vein
That I keep on closing
You cut me open and I

Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding
I keep, keep bleeding love
Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
You cut me open and I

Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding
I keep, keep bleeding love
Keep bleeding
Keep, keep bleeding love
You cut me open and I
