Phantom of the Opera

Well, it'll mostly surprise folk that I do rather enjoy opera when I get the chance. Okay, so we know that all Opera's are either written in Italian or German, but hey, a story told in music (in many parts) qualifies in my books. Although these are generally referred to as concept albums in the English speaking world.

The Phantom of the Opera might just have been the first ever rock opera. But while we'll argue how you qualify one point or the next this has to be one of my favourites. Sarah Brightman is possibly the most famous of those to have taken on the role of Christiane, however this version by Nightwish really does leave me with goosebumps every time I hear it. The combination of Tarja and Marco is simply, Perfect!

[CHRISTINE:]In sleep he sang to me, In dreams he came
That voice which calls to me, And speaks my name
And do I dream again, For now I find
The Phantom of the opera is here, Inside my mind

[PHANTOM:]Sing once again with me
Our strange duet
My power over you, Grows stronger yet
And though you turn from me, To glance behind
The Phantom of the opera is there, Inside your mind

[CHRISTINE:]Those who have seen your face Draw back in fear, I am the mask you wear

[PHANTOM:]It's me they hear

[TOGETHER:] Your spirit and my voice
In one combined
The phantom of the opera is there

[PHANTOM:]Inside your mind

[CHRISTINE:] Inside my mind
Opera, Beware, Phantom of the opera

[PHANTOM:]In all your fantasies
You always knew - That man and mystery

[CHRISTINE:] Were both in you

[TOGETHER:]
And in this labyrinth, Where night is blind
The phantom of the opera is there...

[PHANTOM:] Inside your mind

[CHRISTINE:] Inside my mind

[PHANTOM:] Sing my angel of music

Lost love the lines, "And in this labyrinth, Where night is blind. The phantom of the opera is there..." And people wonder where it is exactly that I hide.

Would You Love a Monsterman

Glam rockers are all but gone these days. Heck, Kiss don't even play with makeup anymore. But we've now got the "shock rockers" those that have tried to go to extremes to stand out, while Marilyn Manson comes immediately to mind there are a few others too.

Lordi from Finland are real entertainers. First hitting the big scene with "Hardrock Halellujah" and winning the Eurovision Song Contest. Putting them right up there with the likes of ABBA and Katrina and the Waves.

Today's tune is "Would You Love a Monsterman" by Lordi. It poses a good few questions. Do people really get you? Would they still love you knowing all the darkness that each of us carry inside?

Would you love a monsterman
Could you understand beauty of the beast

Fire at will - yeah I would kill
Yeah I would freeze the hell all over just to get a chill
Yeah I would slay - Yeah I would maim
Yeah I would vanish in thin air and reappear again
Be right in the squares, yeah I would be sincere
Yeah I would lie, Yeah I would lie
Yeah I would be there waking up the dead to get a thrill
I say yeah - I say yeah

Would you love a monsterman
Could you understand beauty of the beast
I would do it all for you, would you do it all
Do it all for me

Take your time - you'll be fine
Yeah there is nothing wrong with this
you ain't commit no crime
You don't know why it passed you by
You search for something never found
Along these lines
Someday you may turn around and terrify
You can't deny - You crucify
Would you get down in the gutter
Swallowing your pride
I say yeah - I say yeah

Would you love a monsterman
Could you understand beauty of the beast
I would do it all for you, would you do it all
Do it all for me

All that you get is much less
than you deserve
Leaving for now
Someday I may return
Yeah!

Would you love a monsterman

Would you love a monsterman
Could you understand beauty of the beast
I would do it all for you, would you do it all
Do it all for me

Would you love a monsterman
Could you understand beauty of the beast
I would do it all for you, would you do it all
Do it all for me

Yeah!

It's easy enough to love someone for all the right reasons, but could you still love them after knowing all the wrong ones too?

Nightswimming

Just heard this one on the radio and a flood of memories came to me. For some reason this takes me back to my childhood. So many things... so little time and yet somehow we were able to fit it all into such a little time. Maybe that's a power that we lose as the years catch up to us. As Indian Jones would say, "It's not the years, it's the millage."

"Nightswimming" by R.E.M. simply put is a classic. Fantastic arrangement, you'd almost believe that you're surrounded by water. Then again, I'll forever be a sucker for anything played on a piano.

Nightswimming deserves a quiet night
The photograph on the dashboard, taken years ago,
Turned around backwards so the windshield shows
Every streetlight reveals the picture in reverse
Still, it's so much clearer
I forgot my shirt at the water's edge
The moon is low tonight

Nightswimming deserves a quiet night
I'm not sure all these people understand
It's not like years ago,
The fear of getting caught,
Of recklessness and water
They cannot see me naked
These things, they go away,
Replaced by everyday

Nightswimming, remembering that night
September's coming soon
I'm pining for the moon
And what if there were two
Side by side in orbit
Around the fairest sun?
That bright, tight forever drum
Could not describe nightswimming

You, I thought I knew you
You, I cannot judge
You, I thought you knew me,
This one laughing quietly underneath my breath
Nightswimming

The photograph reflects,
Every streetlight a reminder
Nightswimming deserves a quiet night, deserves a quiet night

Can't even recall the last time I went swimming...

All I Need

Spent the weekend working on a song. Yup, I'm still going to be a rock star. Okay perhaps that's not really my scene, I'm a lot more mellow when I really think about it.

"All I Need" by Within Temptation is a lot closer to my kind of stuff. Funny I know considering personally I'd call the likes of Ozzy, Marilyn and Britney my major influences then again if you think of tracks such as "Dreamer", "Speed of Pain" and "Everytime" I guess that pretty much does sum up a lot of things.

I just love the lyrics, the music and overall arrangement of this one. Simple, but then again less really can be more.

I'm dying to catch my breath
Oh why don't i ever learn
I've lost all my trust though i've surely tried to
Turn it around

Can you still see the heart of me?
All my agony fades away
When you hold me in your embrace

Don't tear me down
For all i need
Make my heart a better place
Give me something I can believe
Don't tear me down
You've opened the door now
Don't let it close

I'm here on the edge again
I wish I could let it go
I know that I'm only one step away
From turning around

Can you still see the heart of me?
All my agony fades away
When you hold me in your embrace

Don't tear me down
For all i need
Make my heart a better place
Give me something I can believe
Don't tear it down
What's left of me
Make my heart a better place

I've tried many times but nothing was real
Make it fade away
Don't tear me down
I want to believe that this is for real
Save me from my fear
Don't tear me down

Don't tear me down
For all i need
Make my heart a better place

Don't tear me down
For all i need
Make my heart a better place
Give me something i can believe
Don't tear it down
What's left of me
Make my heart a better place
Make my heart a better place

Just looking for that better place.

Bring Me To Life

I was lucky enough to spend the long weekend doing lots of NOTHING. Gotta love it when you can do that. I've been feeling far too flat for far too long. Some might say it's been a case of being sick and tired of being sick and tired. At any rate, I really do feel like I've managed to recharge my batteries.

Today's tune comes from Evanescence, ultimately their break out hit, "Bring Me To Life". Although I must confess, I've got the Yu-Gi-Oh mash up on my mind. One of the movies I spent my time watching over the weekend.

I like this one mostly because it's so very similar to "Embracing Space" by Regicide. Although in this case it's not so much insanity that you're trying to break free from but perhaps the shell that we put around ourselves leaving us hollow and empty. Could anything really be worse than the nothingness that we can become?

Sometimes we need just that breath of fresh air to breathe new life into something.

How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down into my core where I've become so numb,
Without a soul (without)
My spirit sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back....home

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I Can't Wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I can't wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing I've become

Now that I know what I'm without
You can't just leave me
Breathe~ into me and make me real
Bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I Can't Wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I can't wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing I've become

(Bring me to life)
I've been living a lie,there's nothing inside
(Bring me to life)
Frozen inside without your touch,
Without your love,darling
Only you are the life, among the dead

All this time I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark but you were there in front of me

I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything

Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul
Don't let me die here
There must be something more!
Bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I Can't Wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I can't wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing I've become
(Bring me to life)

I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside!
(Bring me to life.)

Time to wake up...

Only Happy When It Rains

Well it's officially the first rainy day of the new season. I've been waiting for this for quite some time and so finally here we have it.

So while totally off of the original meaning, here is, "Only Happy When It Rains" by Gargbage. I'm not looking for misery, I'm happy most of the time. I'm simply happier when it rains.

I'm only happy when it rains
I'm only happy when it's complicated
And though I know you can't appreciate it
I'm only happy when it rains
You know I love it when the news is bad
And why it feels so good to feel so sad
I'm only happy when it rains

Pour your misery down, pour your misery down on me
Pour your misery down, pour your misery down on me

I'm only happy when it rains
I feel good when things are going wrong
I only listen to the sad sad songs
I'm only happy when it rains

I only smile in the dark
My only comfort is the night gone black
I didn't accidentally tell you that
I'm only happy when it rains
You'll get the message by the time I'm through
When I complain about me and you
I'm only happy when it rains

Pour your misery down,
(pour your misery down on me)
Pour your misery down,
(pour your misery down on me)
Pour your misery down,
(pour your misery down on me)
Pour your misery down,
(pour your misery down on me)
Pour your misery down
You can keep me company as long as you don't care

I'm only happy when it rains
You wanna hear about my new obsession
I'm riding high upon a deep depression
I'm only happy when it rains

(Pour some misery down on me)
I'm only happy when it rains
(Pour some misery down on me)
I'm only happy when it rains
(Pour some misery down on me)
I'm only happy when it rains
(Pour some misery down on me)
I'm only happy when it rains

(Pour some misery down on me)
(Pour some misery down on me)
(Pour some misery down on me)
(Pour some misery down on me)

I'm only happy when it rains
(Pour some misery down on me)
I'm only happy when it rains
(Pour some misery down on me)
I'm only happy when it rains
(Pour some misery down on me)

Rain means summer in these parts... I love summer. So, I'm really happy when it rains!

Monsoon

Summer is officially on its way. Defining point, driving into work at six this morning and wearing my sunglasses all the way in. YES!!!

Rain keeps threatening with a little here and there. But rather a little to start, let the plants start to grow and take root before the real rain comes. So everything is slowly changing... and to a place I much prefer!

With the summer rain surely on it's way today's tune is yet another tribute to the changing of the season. "Monsoon" by Tokio Hotel picked as much for the music video as the actual song itself.

I'm staring at a broken door
There's nothing left here anymore
My room is cold
It's making me insane

I've been waiting here so long
But now the moment seems to've come,
I see the dark clouds coming up again.

Running through the monsoon
Beyond the world,
To the end of time,
Where the rain won't hurt
Fighting the storm,
Into the blue,
And when I lose myself I think of you,
Together we'll be running somewhere new
Through the monsoon.
Just me and you

A half moon's fading from my sight
I see a vision in its light
But now it's gone and left me so alone
I know I have to find you now
Can hear your name, I don't know how
Why can't we make this darkness feel like home?

Running through the monsoon
Beyond the world
To the end of time
Where the rain won't hurt
Fighting the storm
Into the blue
And when I lose myself I think of you
Together we'll be running somewhere new
And nothing can hold me back from you
Through the monsoon

Hey! Hey!

I'm fighting all this power
Coming in my way
Let it take me straight to you
I'll be running night and day
I'll be with you soon
Just me and you
We'll be there soon
So soon

Running through the monsoon
Beyond the world
To the end of time
Where the rain won't hurt
Fighting the storm
Into the blue
And when I lose myself I think of you
Together we'll be running somewhere new
And nothing can hold me back from you
Through the monsoon

Through the monsoon
Just me and you
Through the monsoon
Just me and you

Why run through the rain when you could just stop and dance?

Standing

I remember watching the movie, The Legend of Chun-Li, where the line came up that "sometimes you needed to stand, even when doing so was difficult." So very true, sometimes we simply need to stand and be counted. Even if the count is just one.

"Standing" comes from a far more local band, The Awakening. No matter how the world may want to beat you down or isolate you because you are just you. Be seen and be counted, for who or what you are.

Sitting by myself again
Battered and alone
Wondering to myself again
Whether I have grown

Stand and be counted
Stand to be seen
Stand and be counted

I look into your eyes again
And memories unfold
I wonder about the time we spend
The place we call a home

Stand and be counted
Stand to be seen
Stand and be counted

You force my mind to run away
to your dreams of black and gold
A pain so sharp it bleeds the night
I give you my hand to hold

Stand and be counted
Stand to be seen
Stand and be counted

It's not long to go
To find your way Home

Stand and be seen!

I'll Keep Your Secrets

Well... well... life has a funny habit of just when you think you're getting it together turning about and kicking you in the teeth. While you might be a redneck if someone accuses you of lying through your last remaining tooth, I guess it's also an indication of having lived life.

Jodene's going in for an MRI and some other rather scary stuff sometime today. So today's tune is dedicated to her. It's from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Beethoven's Last Night". "I'll Keep Your Secrets" is played out as Beethoven chats to Fate, asking to have his deafness taken away. Theresa sings the part as the others look on. It's only much later that Beethoven realises that no matter what, Deaf or otherwise, Theresa would always have loved him.

Lost in your dark, I see you there
What do you see beyond your stare
And you believe that no one else can know

What is this thing you keep inside
Out of the light and wrapped in pride
Always afraid that one day it will show

I'll keep your secrets, I'll hold your ground
And when the darkness starts to fall
I'll be around there waiting when dreams are fading
And friends are distant and few
Know at that moment I'll be there with you

What are these voices that you hear
Are they too far or far too near
What are these things that echo from the past

Who are these ghosts you see at night
There in the shadows of your life
They only live by the light you cast

I'll keep your secrets, I'll hold your ground
And when the darkness starts to fall
I'll be around there waiting when dreams are fading
And friends are distant and few
Know at that moment I'll be there with you

I'll be around, when there's no reason left to carry on
And every dream you've ever had is gone
And the dark is deep and black without a sound
And every star has been dragged to the ground
Know at that moment I will be around
Know at that moment I will be around
Know at that moment I will be around

Side note: "Beethoven says to Fate that it is now clear to him that it was his deafness that was the cause of all his unhappiness. "Remove this infirmity and my whole life will turn out right. If I had not gone deaf I would still have been able to perform live and Theresa and I would have had a life together."

Fate assures him that it can be done but once again feels she must warn him of the consequences. She points out that before his deafness his career was more concentrated on live performance than on composing. The Muses of music had always been speaking to him but it was only after he became deaf that he could clearly hear their voices. "Your live performances were brilliant but they lasted but a moment, while your compositions will echo forever."

She then shows Beethoven himself slipping deeper and deeper into his pit of total silence, but all the while the Muses continue to whisper in his ear".

Sometimes that which seems to be an affliction is our greatest defining point. I guess it's all just a matter of perspective.

I'm With You

I spent a lot of time catching up on some oldies over the weekend. Something that I've been meaning to do for quite some time. It really does do the soul some good.

In so many ways come come full circle and in others I've hardly moved. Is that even possible? Anyhow, today's tune comes from Avril Lavigne. "I'm With You" really summed up a lot of my life a few years back, and kinda does once again, only not. Yeah, I know it's not supposed to make sense.

I'm standing on the bridge
I'm waiting in the dark
I thought that you'd be here by now
There's nothing but the rain
No footsteps on the ground
I'm listening but there's no sound

Isn't anyone tryin’ to find me?
Won't somebody come take me home?

It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life
Won't you take me by the hand
Take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
But I... I'm with you
I'm with you

(Mmm..)

I'm looking for a place
I'm searching for a face
Is anybody here I know?
'Cause nothing's going right
And everything’s a mess
And no one likes to be alone

Isn't anyone tryin’ to find me?
Won't somebody come take me home?

It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life
Won't you take me by the hand
Take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
But I... I'm with you
I'm with you

Oh!

Why is everything so confusing?
Maybe I'm just out of my mind
Yeah.. yeah.. yeah!..yeah.. yeah,
yeah.. yeah, yeah yeah,YEAH...
It's a damn cold night
Trying to figure out this life
Won't you take me by the hand
Take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
But I....!
I'm with YOU...
I'm with YOU...
Take me by the hand
Take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
But I!

I'm with you...
I'm with you...

Take me by the hand
Take me somewhere new
I don't know who you are
But I
I'm with you
I'm with you

I'm with you

I guess, perhaps maybe it's time to try something new?

Not What You See

It's Friday!!! Whooo Hooo....

I'm back to my Savatage, there are few things in life that their music doesn't cover.

"Not What You See" is the conclusion to Dead Winter Dead (go and buy it now! but at least give the story a read).

This comes after everything known has been destroyed, when there seems to be nothing but blind hatred. I guess it's a chance, a chance at leaving everything you think you know and following your own path. Give up every tomorrow for a better today.

You can't spend your life living underground
For from above you don't hear a sound
And I'm out here, waiting
I don't understand what you want me to be
It's the dark you're hating, it's not who I am
But I know that it's all that you see

No life's so short that it never learns
No flame so small that it never burns
No page so sure that it never turns
And I'm out here, waiting
I don't understand what you want me to be
It's the dark you're hating, it's not who I am
But I know that it's all that you see

(bridge)
Can you live your life in a day, putting every moment in play?
Never hear a word that they say as the wheels go around

Tell me if you win would it show - in a thousand years, who would know?
As a million lives come and go on this same piece of ground

(simultaneously)

Can you live your life in a day / (I've been waiting)
Putting every moment in play?
Never hear a word that they say / (I don't understand what you want me to be)
As the wheels go around
Tell me if you win would it show / (It's the dark you're hating)
In a thousand years, who would know?
As a million lives come and go / (It's not who I am, but it is what you see)
On this same piece of ground
(simultaneously)

1:
I've been waiting
I don't understand what you want me to be
It's the dark you're hating
It's not who I am, but it is what you see

2:
/Can you live your life in a day
Putting every moment in play?
/Never hear a word that they say
As the wheels go around
/Tell me if you win would it show
In a thousand years, who would know?
/As a million lives come and go
On this same piece of ground

3:
/Tell me would you really want to
See me leave this night without you
/Would you ever look about you
Wondering where we might be
/New York is so far away now
Tokyo, Berlin and Moscow
/Only dreams from here but somehow
One day that world we will see

(simultaneously again, except substitute this for stanza 1 and clip last three syllables of the last line of stanzas 2 and 3)

1:
I don't understand
I don't understand
I don't understand
I don't understand
I don't understand
I don't understand
I don't understand
I don't understand...

(together, immediately)

...what I see.

(solo)

(coda)
I swear on tomorrow, if you take this chance
Our lives are this moment, the music - the dance
And here in this labyrinth of lost mysteries
I close my eyes on this night and you're all that I see

You're all that I see

In a thousand years people might come and go, they might not remember events as they were, but there will always be those telling the tale of my awesomeness.

An Embracing Space (Part II)

Today's tune comes from that same band that seem to have disappeared totally. Regicide offer the second half of "An Embracing Space" again alternating between the Bass and Soprano singers.

While this part plays on immediately from the first part the piano interlude gives it a sudden brighter feel. The first half has the feel of being trapped, what ever the reason, while this part is all about getting out. Reaching outside of that which confines you.

What I really love about this piece of music is the combination of the vocalists carrying the theme of multiple personalities the one is basically questioning the other while the other is pleading their case. A classic case of being in two minds.

Entwined by fear I stand alone dwarfed to walk
Precariousness suffuses my soul
(just feel how it embraces you)
She leads but she is certainly not omniscient
This incandescent path allures but I...
...I just don't want to loose myself...

You will be released! Come, take my hand! Let your heart lead you!
You must have no fear; just see: There is a light above
You are asleep and I am here to recover your consciousness
I am sure that this will be
The freeing of this daydream

There is the light!
There is the outside!
There lays my soul!
There is the solution

There is the light!
There is the outside!
There lays my soul!
Is this freedom?

I meander through this confusing path within myself
But I was relieved as I saw you
As a mirror maze
Now I know why we can't break out of
This embracing space
We have to discard all anger and fear
To yoke our souls

There is the light!
There is the outside!
There lays my soul!
There is the solution

There is the light!
There is the outside!
There lays my soul!
Is this freedom?

We're at the destination
We will be free again
We will reach each other
And end this schizophrenia

Will I ever get out of this embracing space I'm in?
Will you ever get out of this embracing space?
//Will we ever get out of this embracing space?//

There is the light!
There is the outside!
There lays my soul!
There is the solution

There is the light!
There is the outside!
There lays my soul!
Is this freedom?

Reach for the light, break out or you'll be left wondering what ever really happened to your soul.

An Embracing Space (Part I)

Today's tune comes from a band that seem to have disappeared totally. Regicide were an interesting grouping of classically trained musicians, opera singers and rock stars. Guess the world is a little poorer for their loss.

"An Embracing Space" is actually played out in 2 parts (although I believe that their is supposed to have been recorded at some point) and each line kinda alternates between the Bass and Soprano vocalists. I think we're all stuck at times thinking how we'll ever get out of what ever it is that might be holding us... holding us in, holding us back, or perhaps it is us simply refusing to let go?

Will I ever get out of this embracing space I'm in?
Will you ever get out of this embracing space?
Will we ever get out of this embracing space?

How was I trapped into this space?
Just feel how it embraces you
Why must I bear this punishment?
You'll learn what this life is for

Why was I chosen by destiny?
Don't ask for the reasons!
Do I succumb a higher might?
The highest one lies in your mind

May I die?
These feelings are mortal
But I just don't want to loose myself!

Please, come into my tragic kingdom
But be careful, you cannot linger!
Take my wisdom, just step forward!
Cause time has no meaning, take these vistas from your past

Do you think that I am a fool?
I just want to lead you to light
Did I say I want to forget?
This is the wish of your heart!

Everything seems unsettled to me
My cranial seems to explode
You didn't understand that this is not trivia
Am I not in this space, am I finally through?
I didn't hesitate
Your soul took no rest, do you really bother?

But where is the light?
Where is the outside?
Where lays my soul?
Where is the solution?

I'm not here to bring you perdition
No, I am here to guide you out of this

So where you lead I will follow
I trust in you, but don't cause disaster!
So where you lead I will follow
(Where I lead you will follow)
I trust in you, but don't cause disaster!
(Trust in me, but don't cause disaster!)

Will I ever get out of this embracing space I'm in?

Look back over the past and move on. The best one to lead you forward is you.

Let It Rain

Well, summer has decided to come knocking with some rather warm days predicted this week. Sadly we're still not expecting much rain with just a little expected on Friday.

Don't think many are surprised that the more country sound isn't really my scene, but as always, provided the artist puts something in, I'll get something out. This one by Amanda Marshal, "Let It Rain" which reminds me somewhat of Hillary Duff's, "Coming Clean".

I have given, I have given
And got none
Still I'm driven by something I can't explain
It's not a cross, it is a choice
I cannot help but hear his voice
I only wish that I could listen without shame

Let it rain
Let it rain on me
Let it rain, oh let it rain
Let it rain on me

I have been a witness to the perfect crime
I wipe the grin off of my face to hide the blame
It isn't worth the tears you cry to have a perfect alibi
Now I'm beaten at the hands of my own game

Let it rain
Let it rain on me
Let it rain, oh let it rain
Let it rain on me

It isn't easy to be kind
With all these demons in my mind
I only hope one day I'll be free
I do my best not to complain
My face is dirty from the strain
I only hope one day I'll come clean

Let it rain
Let it rain on me
Let it rain, oh let it rain
Let it rain on me

Come take my hand
We can walk to the light
And without fear
We can see through the darkest night

Let it rain
Let it rain on me
Let it rain, oh let it rain
Let it rain on me

Somehow, things always seem so much better after a little rain.

Before It's Too Late

I was watching "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" where one of the themes running through the movie was age, but more specifically time. That there is never enough of it... but also that it's never too late or too early to do something or change your mind. In all I thought it was a fantastic movie.

"Before It's Too Late", by the Goo Goo Dolls, comes from a totally different type of movie, but this track really ties in well. One of the highlights of the Transformers movie was the soundtrack (I was really bummed at much of the way Bay "updated" the Transformers). But possibly one of the more powerful lines to have come out of a movie for quite some time, "Fifty years from now, when you're looking back at your life, don't you want to be able to say you had the guts to get in the car?" I think people fear things way too much... just do it.

I wander through fiction to look for the truth
Buried beneath all the lies
and I stood at a distance
To feel who you are
Hiding myself in your eyes

And

hold on before it's too late
We'll run till we leave this behind
Don't fall just be who you are
It's all that we need in our lives

and the risk that might break you
Is the one that would save
A life you don't live is still lost
So stand on the edge with me
Hold back your fear and see
Nothing is real 'til it's gone

hold on before it's too late
We'll run till we leave this behind
Don't fall just be who you are
It's all that we need in our lives

So live like you mean it
Love 'til you feel it
It's all that we need in our lives
So stand on the edge with me
Hold back your fear and see
Nothing is real 'til it's gone

hold on before it's too late
We'll run till we leave this behind
Don't fall just be who you are
It's all that we need in our lives

hold on before it's too late
We'll run till we leave this behind
Don't fall just be who you are
It's all that we need in our lives

It's all that we need in our lives
It's all that I need in my life

Because some day it may just be too late.

Run to the Water

I've still wanting to get to the beach. I've got a farewell party on Saturday so will be working on a pretty good hangover! Never quite gotten there yet, but I keep trying. Anyhow, might just try to get a "hangover breakfast" down by the beach on Sunday.

This song by Live, "Run to the Water" has a lot of meanings. The joy of good music is that it can mean so much to so many.

There are a lot of themes running through this particular song. Some would say it's religious, Christian or just spiritual. I guess I'd settle for the last option of those, mostly because it suits me best. To me this is a song of redemption, running to where you need to be, to the cool waters that'll soothe the flames.

Oh desert speak to my heart
Oh woman of the earth
Maker of children who weep for love
Maker of this birth
'Til your deepest secrets are known to me
I will not be moved
I will not be moved

"Don't try to find the answer
When there ain't no question here
Brother let your heart be wounded
And give no mercy to your fear"

Adam and Eve live down the street from me
Babylon is every town
It's as crazy as it's ever been
Love's a stranger all around

In a moment we lost our minds here
And lay our spirit down
Today we lived a thousand years
All we have is now

Run to the water
And find me there
Burnt to the core but not broken
We'll cut through the madness
Of these streets below the moon
These streets below the moon

And I will never leave you

'Til we can say,
"This world was just a dream
We were sleepin' now we are awake"
'Til we can say

In a moment we lost our minds here
And dreamt the world was round
A million mile fall from grace
Thank God we missed the ground

Run to the water
And find me there
Burnt to the core but not broken
We'll cut through the madness
Of these streets below the moon
With a nuclear fire of love in our hearts

Yeah, I can see it now lord
Out beyond all the breakin' of waves
And the tribulation
It's a place and the home of ascended souls
Who swam out there in love!

Run to the water
And find me there
Burnt to the core but not broken
We'll cut through the madness
Of these streets below the moon
With a nuclear fire of love in our hearts

Rest easy baby, rest easy
And recognize it all as light and rainbows
Smashed to smithereens and be happy
Run to the water (and find me there)
Run to the water

I expect to find much down by the waters edge, maybe, just maybe some peace too.

Welcome

Well I'm back to my Savatage. This is the second track from Wake of Magellan, simply titled "Welcome".

The first track simply titled the ocean is just an instrumental with the sounds of the ocean in the background. Watching the sun come up this morning, over the ocean, I keep thinking I need to get back to the sea sometime... soon.

The ocean, the beach, they really are my stage. In so many ways it is simply where I belong.

The lights come on
The set is down
The curtain's flown away
To all you creatures of the night
I say it's time we play

We'll show you things
That in your life
You'd never dreamed you'd know
So now before the ghosts arrive
It's welcome to the show

Minstrels, kings, explorers
Fantasies on order
Ghosts and dreams awakened
Stories long forsakened

The minstrel and the sorcerer
Are switching their disguise
The jester drinks and starts to think
That he alone is wise

The governor and journalist
Exchange a judas kiss
And now before the song is done
The plot begins to twist

Ghosts and lost explorers
Fate with all her daughters
Saints and hopeless sinners
Wise men in their winters
know

Welcome to the show
Welcome to the show
Welcome to the show
Welcome to the show

Life's a stage, might as well put on a show.

My Way

Yesterday was one of those days. But nothing a little tequila couldn't fix! Whooo Hoooo... Tequila, it makes me happy.

I've come to the conclusion that it's going to be my way. Because that's the only way it'll be worth my endorsement, worth putting my name to. Don't like it... I don't care, because it's my way or the highway.

So todays tune comes from an unusual source (because I'm not that much of a fan) Limp Bizkit with "My Way".

(Check check, check check, check check, check check, check check, check out my melody)
(Check check, check check check check, check check check check, check out my melody)
(Check check check, check check check, check check check, check out my melody)

Special (Check, klump, melody, klump, melody)
You think you're special
You do
I can see it in your eyes
I can see it when you laugh at me
Look down on me
And walk around on me

Just one more fight
About your leadership
And I will straight up
Leave your shit
Cause I've had enough of this
And now I'm pissed (yeah)

This time I'm a let it all come out
This time I'm a stand up and shout
I'm a do things my way
It's my way
My way or the highway

This time I'm a let it all come out
This time I'm a stand up and shout
I'm a do things my way
It's my way
My way or the highway

(Check out, check check out, check check check, check out my melody)
(Check out, check out, check out, check check, check out my melody)
(Check, check check, check check, check check check, check check check out my melody)
(Check, check out, check, check out, check, check out, check check check out my melody)

Just one more fight
About a lot of things
And I will give up everything
To be on my own again
Free again (yeah)

This time I'm a let it all come out
This time I'm a stand up and shout
I'm a do things my way
It's my way
My way or the highway

This time I'm a let it all come out
This time I'm a stand up and shout
I'm a do things my way
It's my way
My way or the highway

Some day you'll see things my way
Cause you never know
No ya never know
When you're gonna go

Some day you'll see things my way
Cause you never know
No ya never know
When you're gonna go

(Check, check out, check, check out my melody)
(Check out, check check out, check check out, check check check check out my melody)
(Ch Ch check, check out, klump, melody, check check out my melody

Just one more fight
And I'll be history
Yes I will straight up
Leave your shit
And you'll be the one who's left
Missing me (yeah)

This time I'm a let it all come out
This time I'm a stand up and shout
I'm a do things my way
It's my way
My way or the highway

This time I'm a let it all come out
This time I'm a stand up and shout
I'm 'a do things my way
It's my way
My way or the highway

Some day you'll see things my way
Cause you never know
No ya never know
When you're gonna go

Some day you'll see things my way
Cause you never know
No ya never know

(Check out, check check out, check check out, check check out
Check check out, check check out, check check out, melody)
(Check out, check check out, check out, check check out, check out, check check out, check, out, check, out)
(Check out, check check out, check, out, check, out, check out, check check out, check out, check out my melody)

It's time to stand up and shout!

Summer's Rain

Well it's been quite a while since I posted a Savatage track... so, it just has to be time to return to the greatest band, EVER!!

"Summer's Rain" comes from their album Gutter Ballet a prelude if you like to Streets. The last few tracks from this are all themed around insanity, recovery and dependency. If you can't relate to those in some kind of a way, you really need to get out more!

Standing alone in a dream
Where nothing is real
But oh how real it feels
There were times I lost my way
I was alone, lost in a haze
Where are you now
I'll find you somehow

And do I stand alone
Like a fool out in the rain
Hanging on somehow
To an ancient vow
Where there's nothing left to gain
And do you know
How it feels inside
To be all alone
A fool and his pride

Scars are the wounds that we show
Time only heals
When you're letting go
Many night I'd lay awake
Tossing and turning till daybreak
Where are you now
I'll find you somehow

And do I stand alone
Like a fool out in the rain
Hanging on somehow
To an ancient vow
Where there's nothing left to gain
And do you know
How it feels inside
To be all alone
A fool and his pride

In a summer's rain
In a summer's rain
In a summer's rain
In a summer's rain

Sometimes you got to believe
Beyond yesterday
I'm gonna find my way
In the summer's rain
In a summer's rain
In a summer's rain
In a summer's rain
I'm gonna find a way
Run away
Far away

There is something magical about summer's rain, just keep believing and you'll find your way.

Under the Scotsman's Kilt

Well I've been meaning to have a kilt made up for ages and with a mates wedding coming up it could just be the perfect time.

That left me thinking of this song somehow... Think it's pretty much on the mark when it comes down to it.

What does a Scotsman wear under their kilt? Well these to lasses needed to know what was "Under the Scotsman's Kilt" (I haven't checked the link).

A Scotsman clad in kilt left the bar one evening fair
And one could tell by how he walked he'd drunk more than his share
He staggered on until he could no longer keep his feet
Then stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.

chorus:
Ring ding diddle diddle i de o
Ring di diddle i o
He stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.

Later on two young and lovely girls just happened by,
And one says to the other with a twinkle in her eye
You see yon sleeping Scotsman who is young and handsome built
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath their kilt.

Ring ding diddle diddle i de o
Ring di diddle i o
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath their kilt.

They crept up to the sleeping Scotsman quiet as could be
Then lifted up his kilt about an inch so they could see
And there behold for them to view beneath his Scottish skirt
Was nothing but what God had graced him with upon his birth

Ring ding diddle diddle i de o
Ring di diddle i o
There was nothing there but what God gave upon his birth

They marveled for a moment then one said we'd best be gone
But let's leave a present for our friend before we move along
They took a blue silk ribbon and they tied it in a bow
Around the bonnie spar that the Scot's lifted kilt did show

Ring ding diddle diddle i de o
Ring di diddle i o
Around the bonnie spar that the Scot's lifted kilt did show

The Scotsman woke to nature's call and stumbled toward a tree
Behind a bush he lifts his kilt and gawks at what he sees
Then in a startled voice he says to what's before his eyes
He said, 'Lad I don't know where you've been but I see you won first
prize'

Ring ding diddle diddle i de o
Ring di diddle i o
He said, 'Lad I don't know where you've been but I see you won first prize'

No harm as long as you're winning first prize I guess.

Relax

Today's tune is one that sounds rather cheesy at first but really is quite dark and sinister.

I think Marilyn Manson could do a fantastic cover of this one. Much like he did with Sweet Dreams. "Relax" by Mika... I think it's really quite dark, but that could just be me.

Took a ride to the end of the line
Where no one ever goes,
Ended up on a broken train with nobody I know,
But the pain and the longing's the same when you're dying,
Now I’m lost and I’m screaming for help, alone.

Relax, take it easy,
For there is nothing that we can do.
Relax, take it easy,
Blame it on me or blame it on you.

It’s as if I’m scared.
It’s as if I’m terrified.
It’s as if I scared.
It’s as if I’m playing with fire.
Scared.
It’s as if I’m terrified.
Are you scared?
Are we playing with fire?

Relax,
There is an answer to the darkest times.
It’s clear we don’t understand but the last thing on my mind
Is to leave you.
I believe that we’re in this together.
Don’t scream – there are so many roads left.

Relax, take it easy,
For there is nothing that we can do.
Relax, take it easy,
Blame it on me or blame it on you.

Relax, take it easy,
For there is nothing that we can do.
Relax, take it easy,
Blame it on me or blame it on you.

Relax, take it easy,
For there is nothing that we can do.
Relax, take it easy,
Blame it on me or blame it on you.

Relax, take it easy,
For there is nothing that we can do.
Relax, take it easy,
Blame it on me or blame it on you.

It’s as if I’m scared.
It’s as if I’m terrified.
It’s as if I scared.
It’s as if I’m playing with fire.
relax.
It’s as if I’m terrified.
Are you scared?
Are we playing with fire?

Relax.
Relax.

"There is an answer to the darkest times." At least there's always that.

Creature of the Night

Possibly one of the greatest movies ever. Okay, so not possibly, surely!

The Rocky Horror picture show, one of many that was banned in South Africa for many years no doubt for being immoral. After all, how can any man ever wear women's clothing? (grin)

Anyhow... This has to be my favourite song from the whole movie... it's so over the top... so porno... so... brilliant! After all, we're all really wanting to be a, "Creature of the Night!"

Janet Weiss
I was feeling done in
Couldn't win
I'd only ever kissed before

Columbia
You mean she?

Magenta
Uh huh

Janet Weiss
I thought there's no use getting
Into heavy petting
It only leads to trouble
And seat wetting
Now all I want to know
Is how to go
I've tasted blood and I want more

Magenta and Columbia

Janet Weiss
I'll put up no resistance
I want to stay the distance
I've got an itch to scratch
I need assistance
Touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me
I wanna be dirty
Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me
Creature of the night
Then if anything grows
While you pose
I'll oil you up
And rub you down

Magenta and Columbia
Down, down, down!

Janet Weiss
And that's just one small fraction
Of the main attraction
You need a friendly hand
And I need action
Touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me
I wanna be dirty
Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me
Creature of the night

Columbia
Touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me

Magenta
I wanna be dirty

Columbia
Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me

Magenta
Creature of the night

Janet Weiss
Oh, touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me
I wanna be dirty
Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me
Creature of the night

Rocky Horror
Creature of the night

Brad Majors
Creature of the night?

Dr. Frank-N-Furter
Creature of the night

Magenta
Creature of the night

Riff Raff
Creature of the night

Columbia
Creature of the night

Rocky Horror
Creature of the night

Janet Weiss
Creature of the night!

I want to feel dirty ;)
