Furry Happy Monsters

Feeling downright rubbish today. Woke up feeling rather green, think it's just a bug doing it's rounds. Oh well... will survive no doubt.

So as I'm simply reloading one that makes me happy. How can anyone not enjoy the Muppets? Today we can be "Furry Happy Monsters".

Ha Ha Ha Ha
Furry happy monsters laughing (oh, that’s great!) (ha ha ha ha)
Monsters having fun,
Happy, happy
See them jump and run.
Happy, happy
laughing all the while
Cheerful cheerful
Flashing a big smile
That’s a perfect sign
That they’re feeling fine

Furry happy monsters feeling glad
Furry happy monsters feeling glad
Furry happy monsters laughing

Something has gone wrong, (what are we gonna do?)
Sighing, sighing.
Faces have turned long, ( I am so sad!)
Crying, crying.
Hear them sob and whine, (oh oh oh)
Tearful, tearful.
That’s a real good sign,
That they’re feeling glum.
Sad, sad times have come.

Furry sobbing monsters feeling sad.
Furry sobbing monsters feeling sad. (oh so it’s sad)
Furry sobbing monsters crying.

Come on monsters, you don’t have to cry, (we don’t)
we can be happy! (all righ!t) (yeah!)

Furry happy monsters feeling glad.
Furry happy monsters feeling glad.
Furry happy monsters laughing.

Furry sobbing monsters feeling sad.
Furry sobbing monsters feeling sad.
Furry sobbing monsters crying.

Furry happy monsters feeling glad.
Furry happy monsters feeling glad.
Furry happy monsters laughing.

Monsters, Happy, Monsters
Monsters, Happy, Monsters
Monsters, Happy, Monsters
Monsters, Happy, Monsters

I can be happy!! :)

Every Rose Has Its Thorn

Everyone knows that I'm a sucker for cheesy music. So lets take a trip back to the 80's and the hair-metal bands. This is about as cheesy as can be.

"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison is one of those that everyone has heard at some point. While an obvious "she got away" kind of song it also makes the point that be careful what you reach for, it could come back to harm you.

We both lie silently still
in the dead of the night
Although we both lie close together
We feel miles apart inside

Was it something I said or something I did
Did my words not come out right
Though I tried not to hurt you
Though I tried
But I guess that's why they say

Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn

Yeah it does

I listen to her favourite song
playing on the radio
Hear the DJ say love's a game of easy come and easy go
But I wonder does he know
Has he ever felt like this
And I know that you'd be here right now
If I could let you know somehow
I guess

Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn

Though it's been a while now
I can still feel so much pain
Like a knife that cuts you the wound heals
but the scar, that scar will remain

I know I could saved a love that night
If I'd known what to say
Instead of makin' love
We both made our separate ways

and now I hear you found somebody new
and that I never meant that much to you
To hear that tears me up inside
And to see you cuts me like a knife
I guess

Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn

Even the softest and most beautiful of things seem to have that which can hurt us. But yeah, it's about as cheesy as you get.

Fly

Ah radio play, sometimes you come to the rescue.

Today's song, "Fly" by Nicki Minaj and featuring Rihanna is a track that I rather enjoy even though it's about as far from my usual scene as can be.

I guess it's the chorus that I find inspirational. I've lived by the motto that failure simply isn't an option. Sure sometimes you lose, and sometimes you win... but as long as you put in the fight you've hardly failed. I think this might just be the anti Jessie Clegg intro when he questions why he came at all.

I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive
I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise
to fly
to fly

I wish today it will rain all day
maybe that will kinda make the pain go away
trying to forgive you for abandoning me
praying but I think I'm still an angel away
angel away, yeah strange in a way
maybe that is why I chase strangers away
they got their guns out aiming at me
but I become near when they aiming at me
me, me, me against them
me against enemies, me against friends
somehow they both seem to become one
A sea full of sharks and they all see blood
they start coming and I start rising
must be surprising, I'm just summising
win, thrive, soar, higher, higher, higher
more fire

I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive
I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise
to fly
to fly

Everybody wanna try to box me in
suffocating everytime it locks me in
paint they own pictures than they crop me in
but I will remain where the top begins
cause I am not a word, I am not a line
I am not a girl that can every be defined
I am not fly, I am levitation
I represent an entire generation
I hear the criticism loud and clear
that is how I know that the time is near
so we become alive in a time of fear
and I aint got no muthafucking time to spare
cry my eyes out for days upon days
such a heavy burden placed upon me
but when you go hard your nay's become yay's
Yankee Stadium with Jay's and Kanye's

I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive
I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise
to fly
to fly

Get ready for it
get ready for it
get ready for it
I came to win
get ready for it
get ready for it
I came to win

I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive
I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise
to fly
to fly

So when we sit back and wonder why it is that we are where we are... it's quite simply to fly.

Closing Time

The band Semisonic don't really seem to have made number 1 hits a regular occurrence but remain consistent over the years. I expect that this might have been their greatest hit. But I guess all we really need is that one song.

Today's tune is Beerday inspired. While rather sombre in tune as it would always be when last round is called, it is the last line that really strikes a chord. Things can only ever really start because something else came to an end. I guess that's the point, reaching closing time what you do after that, well is entirely up to you.

Closing time
Open all the doors and let you out into the world
Closing time
Turn all of the lights on over every boy and every
girl
Closing time
One last call for alcohol so finish your whiskey or
beer
Closing time
You don't have to go home but you can't stay here

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
Take me home

Closing time
Time for you to go out to the places you will be from
Closing time
This room won't be open till your brothers or your
sisters come
So gather up your jackets, move it to the exits
I hope you have found a friend
Closing time
Every new beginning comes from some other
beginning's end

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
Take me home

Closing time
Time for you to go out to the places you will be from

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
Take me home

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
Take me home

Closing time
Every new beginning comes from some other
beginning's end

Today only get's to begin because yesterday came to an end.

Heavy in your Arms

Today's track comes from a completely random band. Florence and the Machine have been around for quite a while, but it seems that finally MTV, Radio and mainstream are coming to the party promoting this kind of music.

Oddly enough this song makes takes me back some time. Back to the early 2000's when my uncle, aunt and I went up Table Mountain to scatter ashes of those that had been lost over the years. It was then that I realised just how heavy something so small can weigh you down.

Are any of us really that strong, to carry both our own heart and another... or do we often end up having to pick one over another? Which are we more likely to pick? Either way, it's a heavy burden to carry.

I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced to crown.

I was a heavy heart to carry
My feet dragged across ground
And he took me to the river
Where he slowly let me drown

My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall

I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms
I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms

And is it worth the wait
All this killing time?
Are you strong enough to stand
Protecting both your heart and mine?

Who is the betrayer?
Who's the killer in the crowd?
The one who creeps in corridors
And doesn't make a sound

My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall

My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall

I'm so heavy, heavy
Heavy in your arms
I'm so heavy, heavy
So heavy in your arms

This will be my last confession
I love you never felt like any blessing
(Ohhhh)
Whispering like it's a secret
Only to condemn the one who hears it
With a heavy heart

Heavy heavy i'm so heavy in your arms
(i'm so) Heavy heavy i'm so heavy in your arms
(i'm so) Heavy heavy i'm so heavy in your arms
(i'm so) Heavy heavy i'm so heavy in your arms

I was a heavy heart to carry
my beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced to crown

I was a heavy heart to carry
But he never let me down
When he had me in his arms
My feet never touched the ground

I'm so heavy, heavy in your arms.

Heavy, i'm so heavy in your arms.

Sometimes it's the smallest things that weigh us down the most, that's usually when we have to just make sure you keep carrying on.

I Miss You

Christmas if fast approaching. For anyone that might not know I simply am Christmas's biggest fan. It's not about anything other than simply latching onto a the feelgood atmosphere of the season.

"I Miss You" by Blink 182 makes a lot of references to A Nightmare Before Christmas one of the best Christmas movies of all time. I love it because it just reminds me of of everything that is my childhood.

I this tune I think the one being missed more than anything is the child that once was. But... the joy is no matter what I can still be Jack, we'll have Halloween on Christmas. Real question is where is Sally?

(I miss you, I miss you)
Hello there, the angel from my nightmare
The shadow in the background of the morgue
The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley
We can live like Jack and Sally if we want
Where you can always find me
We'll have Halloween on Christmas
And in the night we'll wish this never ends
We'll wish this never ends

(I miss you, I miss you)
(I miss you, I miss you)

Where are you and I'm so sorry
I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness
Comes creeping on so haunting every time
And as I stared I counted
Webs from all the spiders
Catching things and eating their insides
Like indecision to call you
and hear your voice of treason
Will you come home and stop this pain tonight
Stop this pain tonight

Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you)
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you)
The voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you)
The voice inside my head (I miss you, I miss you)

(I miss you, I miss you)
(I miss you, I miss you)
(I miss you, I miss you)
(I miss you, I miss you)

If there ever was a Pumpkin King, I guess that I would be it...

Still Standing

Yet another great band to come from Scandinavia, The Rasmus seem to yet another polished act from this never ending source.

"Still Standing" is a rather dramatic turn for a band that usually lean towards the heavier sound. While there are many interpretations (as there so often are) this one really signifies loss and trying to take something back. To once again take a stand, be counted no matter what the barrage may be. There are things we simply can't avoid, but with clear conscience we can simply stand.

I wish you here tonight with me to see the northern lights
I wish you were here tonight with me
I wish I could have you by my side tonight when the sky is burning
I wish I could have you by my side

Cause I've been down and I've been crawling
Won't back down no more

Can't you stop the lies, falling from the skies
Down on me, I'm still standing
Can't you roll the dice, I might be surprised
Conscience clear, I'm still standing here

burns like a thousand stars, though you are light years away
burns like a thousand stars or more

you're up there, you're always with me
smiling down on me

can't you stop the lies, falling from the skies
down on me, I'm still standing
can't you roll the dice, I might be surprised
conscience clear, I'm still standing here

It's something sacred, something so beautiful
something quiet to ease my mind
when the pressure's taking me over and over

cause I've been down and I've been crawling
pushed around and always falling
you're up there, you're always with me
smiling down on me

can't you stop the lies, falling from the skies
down on me, I'm still standing
can't you roll the dice, I might be surprised
conscience clear, I'm still standing here
can't you stop the lies, falling from the skies
down on me, I'm still standing here
can't you roll the dice, I might be surprised
conscience clear, I'm still standing here

It's been a while since I've just stared up to the stars, they do a fantastic job of just looking over me. I think that I might just do this evening.

Mr Sandman

Well once again I simply can't seem to find a decent nights sleep. Which brings me back to today's tune, "Mr Sandman". Think I might have to visit the pharmacy a little later in search of some sleeping sand.

Performed by Blind Guardian this one starts off rather mellow and ends up a a real rocking track. Much like many of their covers mind you.

(bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum, bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum)

Mister Sandman, bring me a dream.
Make her the cutest that I've ever seen.
Give her two lips like roses in clover.
Then tell her that her lonesome nights are over.

Sandman, I'm so alone.
Don't have nobody to call my own.
Please turn on your magic beam.
Mister Sandman, bring me a dream.

(bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum, bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum)

Mister Sandman, bring me a dream.
Make her the cutest that I've ever seen.
Give her the word that I'm not a rover
And tell her that her lonesome nights are over.

Sandman, I'm so alone.
Don't have nobody to call my own.
Please turn on your magic beam.
Mister Sandman, bring me a dream.

(bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum, bum, bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum)

Mister Sandman, bring us a dream.
Give her a pair of eyes with a come-hither gleam
Give her a lonely heart like Pagliacci
And lots of wavy hair like Liberace

Mister Sandman, someone to hold.
Would be so peachy before we're too old.
So please turn on your magic beam.
Mister Sandman, bring us,
Please, please, please,
Mister Sandman, bring us a dream.

Mister Sandman, seriously, just a dream... I might just finally get some rest.

Daydream Believer

Ah... looking for happy cheery songs and suddenly I'm a "Daydream Believer". Today's song is a old classic that for some reason leaves me thinking of my dad.

So here's to The Monkees a classic rock and roll band. Don't really make them like that anymore. But for a cheery throw back, today's song is "Daydream Believer".

Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings.
The six o'clock alarm would never ring,
But six rings and I rise;
Wipe the sleep out of my eyes.
My shavin' razor's cold and it stings.

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen?

You once thought of me
As a white knight on his steed.
Now you know how happy I can be.
Oh, and our good times start and end
Without dollar one to spend,
But how much, baby, do we really need?

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen?

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen?

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen?

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen?

Ultimately we all need to cheer up... no matter the reason.

99 Red Balloons

Music has always been one of the most successful devices in overcoming many an obstacle. Protest of all sorts are often accompanied by song.

"99 Red Balloons" is one such song. While a very loose translation of the German original "99 Luftbaoons" by Nena you can't help but feel the sadness in the song. Much like the Dead Winter Dead album you're left but nothing but the ashes when conflict ensues.

You and I in a little toy shop
Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got
Set them free at the break of dawn
Til one by one, they were gone
Back at base bugs in the software
Flash the message, something's out there
Floating in the summer sky
99 red balloons go by

99 red balloons
Floating in the summer sky
Panic bells it's red alert
There's something here from somewhere else
The war machine springs to life
Opens up one eager eye
Focusing it on the sky as 99 red balloons go by

99 Decision street
99 ministers meet
To worry, worry, super scurry
Call the troops out in a hurry
This is what we've waited for
This is it boys, this is war
The president is on the line
As 99 red balloons go by

99 knights of the air
Ride super high tech jet fighters
Everyone's a super hero Everyone's a Captain Kirk
With orders to identify
To clarify, and classify
Scramble in the summer sky
99 red balloons go by Wooo-hoo! Wooo-hoo! Woooo-hooo! Wooooo-hooo!
99 red balloons go by

99 dreams I have had In every one a red balloon
It's all over and I'm standing pretty
In this dust that was a city
If I could find a souvenir
Just to prove the world was here
And here is a red balloon
I think of you, and let it go

I wonder just how many dreams have stood in the same spot we find ourselves. How many simply drifted away?

Pure Morning

Perfect sunrise, watched the sun shimmering off of the ocean. A pure morning.

So with that in mind the best title for today's track is simply "Pure Morning" which is a track from the late '90s by Placebo. While another rather deep track from this band, I like the simplicity of it.

To a pure morning, may it be shared with friends those in need... and any of the others too.

A friend in need's a friend indeed,
A friend with weed is better,
A friend with breasts and all the rest,
A friend who's dressed in leather,

A friend in need's a friend indeed,
A friend who'll tease is better ,
Our thoughts compress,
Which makes us blessed,
And makes for stormy weather,

A friend in need's a friend indeed,
My Japanese is better,
And when she's pressed, she will undress,
And then she's boxing clever,

A friend in need's a friend indeed,
A friend who bleeds is better,
My friend confessed she passed the test,
And we will never sever,

Day's dawning, skins crawling [repeat three more times]
Pure morning, [repeat this three more times]

A friend in need's a friend indeed,
A friend who'll tease is better,
Our thoughts compress,
Which makes us blessed,
And makes for stormy weather,

A friend in need's a friend indeed,
A friend who bleeds is better,
My friend confessed she passed the test,
And we will never sever,

Day's dawning, skins crawling
Day's dawning, skins crawling
Day's dawning, skins crawling
Day's dawning, skins crawling
Pure morning,
Pure morning,
Pure morning,
Pure morning,

A friend in need's a friend indeed,
My Japanese is better,
And when she's pressed, she will undress,
And then she's boxing clever,

A friend in need's a friend indeed,
A friend with weed is better,
A friend with breasts and all the rest,
A friend who's dressed in leather

Oddly enough I've given Japan some thought of late... stranger things have happened I suppose.

Hands

Well, not sure where the weekend went, but pretty sure once I truly sober up I'll have a better idea.

So while I remain in a rather chirpy mood I'm going to add one that's a little sombre today. "Hands" by Jewel is one of those that always inspires me.

The line: "For light does the darkness most fear" reminds me that no matter of slight, light always overcomes the darkness. Not to mention a vital point that light is never lost by lending light to another. While my hands are fairly small they are are also amazingly powerful for they too can carry light.

If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
Poverty stole your golden shoes
It didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But I knew it wasn't ever after
We'll fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
'Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
I am never broken
In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
We are never broken
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's mind
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's heart
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's eyes
We are God's hands
We are God's hands

No matter what life or the world throw at you, never be broken, it just takes a tiny bit of light to chase any of the darkness.

This Isn't What We Meant

Well today is the 11th of the 11th and most seem to have missed the point as today is also Remembrance Day. I'm fortunate enough to have never seen war. My dad served in a civil war and my grandfather as a non-combatant in the second world war. Those seem so very, very far away yet the effects still linger today.

Today's track is, "This Isn't What We Meant" by Savatage. Taken from the album Dead Winter Dead this track outline the start to the civil war in Bosnia. At a time when the people could finally be free they simply turned on each other. It's desperately sad that this seems to happen time and again.

We dared to ask for more
But that was long before the nights began to burn
You would have thought we'd learned
You can't make promises all based upon tomorrow
Happiness, security are words we only borrowed
For is this the answer to our prayers, is this what God has sent?
Please understand this isn't what we meant

The future couldn't last, we nailed it to the past
With every word a trap that no one can take
Back from all the architects who find their towers leaning
And every prayer we pray at night has somehow lost its meaning
For is this the answer to our prayers, is this what God has sent?
Please understand this isn't what we meant

A long time ago when the world was pretty
Standing right here in a different city
They're not coming back any more
They're not coming back any...

Is this the answer to our prayers, is this what God has sent?
Please understand this isn't what we meant

Be careful where emotion, hatred and greed may take you because it rarely leads you where you needed/wanted to be.

Spin Around

Been thinking of additions I should be making to my DVD collection and am instantly reminded of the "Josie and the Pussycats" movie. If you haven't seen it, it's one of those nonsensical movies that ultimately has a feel good theme but for the most part just makes fun of commercialism to some degree. It certainly doesn't hurt that Josie is really cute and Melody is one of those characters that you just have to love.

Thankfully I know the lyrics to "Enter Sandman" so should be fine even if I join a boy band at some point.

"Spin Around" is the backing track as Josie and the Pussycats seem to have hit the big time. I wonder if it's always a case of spiraling out of control is a natural progression when we finally make it? I suppose time will tell.

La la la, la la la la
La la la, la la la la
La la la, la la la yeah

Spin around come back home
You're runnin out on a line
Sometimes feel I'm going outta my mind
Stunned here waitin for anyone to take the time
Spin around we get further and further away
Smile and wave, ain't got nothin to say
Stunned here waitin for anyone to take the time
To change my mind this time

I've been starin' at the sun for some time
It gets dark inside but I don't mind
And if you're gone its like I'm goin' blind
I can't get by this time

Spin around jump back take another look at yourself
You've been hidin' all alone on a shelf
Frozen waitin for anyone who'll change your mind
Spin around come down now cause its all getting clear
Everything you ever wanted is here
We never needed anyone to change your mind
Don't waste our time
We're fine

I've been starin at the sun for some time
It gets dark inside but I don't mind
And if you're gone it likes I'm going blind
I can't get by this time

La la la, la la la la
La la la, la la la la
La la la, la la la yeah

Spin around and around
and around and around
never want to come back down
'cause everything you lost
I found yeah
Spin around and around and uh
Spin around and around and uh
Spin around and around and uh
yeah yeah yeah

Sometimes we're find ourselves spinning about and kinda lose touch with reality. Then again is that always a bad thing?

Hero of the Day

I've posted this one before, but because Anne was officially my hero today (she collected Macdonalds for everyone in the office) and I got to thinking of heroes in general.

How is it exactly that a hero is defined? Is it a single act, a commitment that is carried through or is it a case of just being there? I guess it's as much of being on hand at the right moment.

"Hero of the Day" by Metallica is one of those that always makes me think of home. There's something magically wonderful about being able to follow the usual path home and find yourself where you began. For me home is really where ever my kids (Jet, Indie, Jasper and Abby) might be. While for the most part cats don't really care for people as much as a puppy might, Jet is always waiting for me. He sits in the same spot every time I leave until I return. There's something amazingly comforting in that knowledge. The others... well, they're glad to see that the meal ticket has returned. But that's how they roll.

The beauty is that if we can be the hero today, then why not again tomorrow? From there, who knows, maybe a hero all round?

Mama they try and break me

The window burns to light the way back home
A light that warms no matter where they've gone

They're off to find the hero of the day
But what if they should fall by someone's wicked way

Still the window burns
Time so slowly turns
And someone there is sighing
Keepers of the flames
Do you feel your names?
Can't you hear your baby's crying?
Mama they try and break me
Still they try and break me

S'cuse me while I tend to how I feel
These things return to me that still seem real

Now deservingly this easy chair
But the rocking stopped by wheels of despair

Don't want your aid
But the fist I've made
For years, can't hold or feel
No I'm not all me
So please excuse me
While I tend to how I feel

But now the dreams and waking screams
That everlast the night
So build a wall
Behind it crawl
And hide until it's light
Can't you hear your baby's crying now?

Still the window burns
Time so slowly turns
And someone there is sighing
Keepers of the flames
Can't you hear your names?
Can't you hear your baby's crying?

But now the dreams and waking screams
That everlast the night
So build a wall
Behind it crawl
And hide until it's light
Can't you hear your baby's crying now?

Mama they try and break me
Mama they try and break me
Mama they try and break me
Mama they try
Mama they try hey!
Mama they try and break me
Mama they try and break me
Mama they try and break me
Mama they try
Mama they try

Because no matter how late... or how dark the night, the light will be on and there will be a little cat sitting waiting for me. In Jet's world I might be a hero, but he's always been my hero.

YMCA

I've posted today's song before but in the spirit of Movember, nobody really does it better than the Village People. For all the cheese they've really somehow managed to stick around and become almost a cult themselves.

So be you a construction worker, a police officer, biker or Indian Chief, we want to see that "Mo". So as a tribute to all, here's "YMCA" possibly one of the most well known songs that I can think of. While there is a lot of more serious commentary in many of the Village People's songs the best thing is that they are also presented in light-hearted and humorous ways. How can anyone watch/listen to the Village People and not be entertained?

Young man, there's no need to feel down.
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground.
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy.

Young man, there's a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough.
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.
It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.

They have everything that you need to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the boys ...

It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.
It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.

You can get yourself clean, you can have a good meal
You can do whatever you feel ...

Young man, are you listening to me?
I said, young man, what do you want to be?
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams.
But you've got to know this one thing!

No man does it all by himself.
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf,
And just go there, to the Y.M.C.A.
I'm sure they can help you today.

You can get yourself clean, you can have a good meal,
You can do whatever you feel ...

Young man, I was once in your shoes.
I said, I was down and out with the blues.
I felt no man cared if I were alive.
I felt the whole world was so jive ...

That's when someone came up to me,
And said, young man, take a walk up the street.
It's a place there called the Y.M.C.A.
They can start you back on your way.

It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.
It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.

They have everything that you need to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the boys ...

YMCA
It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A
Young man, young man there's no need to feel down
Young man, young man pick yourself off the ground

Y-M-C-A
then just go to the Y-M-C-A
young man, young man I was once in your shoes
young man, young man I said, I was down and out with the blues.
Y-M-C-A

Yeah, well... as my mother put it, no party was complete until someone played the village people and someone threw up (they could be the same person - often were mind you).

Now That We're Men

Monday's can bee a little blue at the best of times, so I decided that to commemorate Movember, we're going to take a page out of the Spongebob Squarepants movie score.

"Now That We're Men" as sung by Spongebob and Patrick is one of those cheesy tracks that even the monsters of the deep are unable to do anything but sing along. Ultimately they gain all the confidence and bravery that the bottom of the ocean can hold simply because they have magically grown moustaches.

So for all out there promoting Movember, this one is for you... once you've got you moustache, pretty much anything is doable.

Now that we're men, we can do anything
Now that we're men, we are invincible
Now that we're men, we'll go to shell city
Get the crown, save the town and Mr. Krabs
Now that we're men, we have facial hair
Now that we're men, I change my underwear
Now that we're men, we got a manly flair
We got the stuff, we're tough enough to save the day
We never had a chance when we were kids, no no no
But take a look at what we've already did, ha ha ha

Now that they're men, we can't bother them
Now that they're men, they have become our friends
Now that they're men, there'll be a happy end
They'll pass the test, and finish the quest for the crown
They'll pass the test
And finish the quest
They'll pass the test, and finish the quest for the crown

The power of a moustache, even Spongebob and Patrick get it.

Where the Wild Roses Grow

Ah the joys of social media, constantly reminded of classics that just sit round the corners of consciousness yet always play a part in our daily lives.

I fell in love with this one, possibly as far back as 1995 when I first saw the music video. "Where the Wild Roses Grow" is a duet between Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue. While they may seem an unlikely duo Cave penned this song with Kylie in mind.

While a rather macabre song (as most of Cave's tend to be) the imagery is truly beautiful, which is part of the point behind the song. In this case Cave's character ends up killing Kylie's character in order to preserve beauty. But as with so many things, dying young rarely keeps things as beautiful as they should be.

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day

From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one
She stared in my eyes and smiled
For her lips were the colour of the roses
That grew down the river, all bloody and wild

When he knocked on my door and entered the room
My trembling subsided in his sure embrace
He would be my first man, and with a careful hand
He wiped at the tears that ran down my face

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day

On the second day I brought her a flower
She was more beautiful than any woman I'd seen
I said, "Do you know where the wild roses grow
So sweet and scarlet and free?"

On the second day he came with a single red rose
He said "Give me your loss and your sorrow"
I nodded my head, as I lay on the bed
"If I show you the roses, will you follow?"

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day

On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he knelt (stood smiling) above me with a rock in his fist

On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow
And she lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief
And I kissed her goodbye, said, "All beauty must die"
And lent down and planted a rose tween her teeth

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day

In the end, the only thing that was left of Elisa Day was a bed of roses. Perhaps even the most grim of circumstances can leave something of beauty behind even if it is totally unintended. Perhaps it's hope that needs us and not the other way around.
