Once Upon a December

I got to watching Anastasia again last night. There is something magical about the story and the musical score.

"Once Upon a December", performed by Deana Carter, is a tale of memories that holds a lot of meaning for me. I've added this song before thinking how so many of my stories have begun with "Once upon a December..." Some of them good... some of them not so, but so many memories.

Dancing bears,
Painted wings,
Things I almost remember,
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December.

Someone holds me safe and warm.
Horses prance through a silver storm.
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory...

Far away, long ago,
Glowing dim as an ember,
Things my heart
Used to know,
Once Upon A December...

Someone holds me safe and warm.
Horses prance through a silver storm.
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory...

Far away, long ago,
Glowing dim as an ember,
Things my heart
Used to know,
Things it yearns to remember...

And a song
Someone sings
Once upon a December

Before the memories fade, I'll think back to a December far away and long ago.

Furry Happy Monsters

I've simply gone feel good today. With R.E.M. deciding to call it a day I'm going back to one of their more entertaining performances. They did once say that they'd never perform this on live simply because they wouldn't have Kate Pierson performing with them, but somehow I think this will do.

"Furry Happy Monsters" which was performed with the Muppet crew is one of those that just makes me smile.

monsters having fun, happy, happy
see them jump and run, happy, happy
laughing all the while, cheerful, cheerful
flashing a big smile, that's a per-fect sign
that they're feelin' fine
furry happy monsters feeling glad
(furry happy monsters feeling glad)
furry happy monsters laughing

something has gone wrong, sighing, sighing
faces have turned long, crying, crying
hear them sob and whine, tearful, tearful
that's a real good sign that they're feelin' glum
sad, sad times have come

(same order as before)
furry sobbing monsters feeling sad
furry sobbing monsters feeling sad
furry sobbing monsters crying

"come on monsters, you don't have to cry!"
monsters: "no?"
"no! we can be happy!!!"

furry happy monsters feeling glad
furry happy monsters feeling glad
furry happy monsters laughing
furry sobbing monsters feeling sad
furry sobbing monsters feeling sad
furry sobbing monsters crying
(glad and laughing again)
monsters, happy monsters
monsters, happy monsters

It's as simple as saying, "we can be happy!!!" and that is all I really have to say about that.

The Look

Haven't heard from my brother in a while so going to add his favourite song today. Okay, so perhaps no longer the top of his pops, but he actually had a tape (yup a cassette - it was that long ago) that simply played this song from start to finish.

So today I'm going on a nostalgic trip and we're going for a bit of Roxette. "The Look" is one of those that instantly takes me back to my early teens, possibly even further back. To a time when the world was a very different place. While things may have changed, we can still sneak back once in a while.

1-2-3-4
Walking like a man,
hitting like a hammer,
she's a juvenile scam.
Never was a quitter,
tasty like a raindrop,
she's got the look.
Heavenly bound
cause heaven's got a number
when she's spinning me around,
Kissing is a colour,
her loving is a wild dog,
she's got the look.

She's got the look.
She's got the look.
What in the world can make a brown-eyed girl so blue.
When everything I'll ever do I'll do for you
and I go: la la la la la
she's got the look.

Fire in the ice,
naked to the T-bone
is a lover's disguise.
Banging on the head drum,
shaking like a mad bull,
she's got the look.
Swaying to the band,
moving like a hammer,
she's a miracle man.
Loving is the ocean,
Kissing is the wet sand,
she's got the look.

And she goes:
na na na na na na na na.

Not that it matters much, but this just makes me happy.

Friend of a Friend

I've spent quite a bit of time feeling a little green about the gills this past week. So rather than feel sorry for myself, I've instead re-tuned my guitars and have gotten back to playing (very, very badly) once again. It's been rather enjoyable and frustrating all at the same time. But that's the bane of poets and madmen. Or so I'll keep telling myself at least.

My Ibenz 12 string is a real beauty and if you're hitting the string right it just about sings. I've always been a real sucker for a real acoustic set, they always sound so much more genuine and honest somehow.

"Friend of a Friend" by the Foo Fighters is simply beautiful. It's pretty much his first impressions of his band mates at Nirvana, Kurt and Krist. I guess nobody ever really interrupted anyone, I suppose words are often of no real value at times.

For me this has a bit of a different spin. My guitars (barring one) don't really belong to me, they are still technically my brothers. These days when I play there's nobody around to hear (which is mostly a good thing). Of late I've pretty much locked myself away to play...

He needs a quiet room
With a lock to keep him in
It's just a quiet room
And he's there

He plays an old guitar
With a coin found by the phone
It was his friends guitar
That he played

He's never been in love
But he knows just what love is
He said nevermind
And no-one speaks

He thinks he drinks too much
Cos when he tells his too best friends
'I think I drink too much'
No-one speaks
No-one speaks
No-one speaks

He plays an old guitar
With a coin found by the phone
It was his friends guitar
That he played

When he plays
No-one speaks
No-one speaks
When he plays
No-one speaks

So I'll just keep playing away on my old guitar, behind locked doors where no-one speaks.

Earth Song

Today is World Rhino Day and while my views on conservation may not match most other people's feelings on the matter, a moment should still be taken to consider what we can and more importantly what we will do for the cause.

"Earth Song" by Michael Jackson asks all those questions that really needed to be asked. Do people really and truly care? I mean it's fine and well to sign all those online petitions... even to wear black on spring day... but when push comes to shove what would you really do? How far would you honestly go to make a difference? How much damage do we do by simply doing nothing?

What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain...
What about killing fields
Is there a time
What about all the things
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we've shed before
Did you ever stop to notice
This crying Earth these weeping shores?

Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo
Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo

What have we done to the world
Look what we've done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son...
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
This crying Earth these weeping shores

Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo
Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo

I used to dream
I used to glance beyond the stars
Now I don't know where we are
Although I know we've drifted far

Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo
Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo
Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo
Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo

Hey, what about yesterday
(What about us)
What about the seas
(What about us)
The heavens are falling down
(What about us)
I can't even breathe
(What about us)
What about apathy
(What about us)
I need you
(What about us)
What about nature's worth
(ooo, ooo)
It's our planet's womb
(What about us)
What about animals
(What about it)
We've turned kingdoms to dust
(What about us)
What about elephants
(What about us)
Have we lost their trust
(What about us)
What about crying whales
(What about us)
We're ravaging the seas
(What about us)
What about forest trails
(ooo, ooo)
Burnt despite our pleas
(What about us)
What about the holy land
(What about it)
Torn apart by greed
(What about us)
What about the common man
(What about us)
Can't we set him free
(What about us)
What about children dying
(What about us)
Can't you hear them cry
(What about us)
Where did we go wrong
(ooo, ooo)
Someone tell me why
(What about us)
What about baby boy
(What about it)
What about the days
(What about us)
What about all their joy
(What about us)
What about the man
(What about us)
What about the crying man
(What about us)
What about Abraham
(What was us)
What about death again
(ooo, ooo)
Do we give a damn

Aaaaaaaaah oooooooooo

Pretend all you want, do you really give a damn?

My Medicine

Ever feel like you're not quite with it? That somehow everything around us doesn't add up, or worse yet that when it does that it finally makes even less sense? This is the inspiration for today's tune.

I guess at times we're left feeling like we're not really knowing what's going on around us, almost as if we're taking a trip. Perhaps we want to be taking a trip? "My Medicine" by a The Pretty Reckless is one of those that tells the tale of that spiral. Neither downward or upward but never returning to the same point either.

While stimulants of all kinds may have an effect, it is those around us that can throw more into the mix than anything we could possibly inflict on ourselves. I'm not sure why that is, doubt I ever will.

Somebody mixed my medicine
Somebody mixed my medicine

You hurt where you sleep
And you sleep where you lie
Now you're in deep and
now you're gonna cry
You got a woman to the left
and a boy to the right
Start to sweat so hold me tight

Somebody mixed my medicine
I don't know what I'm on
Somebody mixed my medicine
But baby it's all gone
Somebody mixed my medicine
Somebody's in my head again
Somebody mixed my medicine again, again

I'll drink what you leak
And I'll smoke what you sigh
Straight across the room with a look in your eye
I got a man to the left and a girl to the right
Start to sweat so hold me tight

Somebody mixed my medicine
I don't know what I'm on
Somebody mixed my medicine
But baby it's all gone
Somebody mixed my medicine
Somebody's in my head again
Somebody mixed my medicine again, again

There's a tiger in the room
and a baby in the closet
Pour another drink mom
I don't even want it
Then I turn around and think I see
someone that looks like you

You hurt where you sleep
You sleep where you lie
Now you're in deep and
now you're gonna cry
You got a woman to the left
and a boy to the right
Start to sweat so hold me tight

Somebody mixed my medicine
I don't know what I'm on
Somebody mixed my medicine
But baby it's all gone
Somebody mixed my medicine
Somebody's in my head again
Somebody mixed my medicine
again [x8]

Somebody mixed my medicine [x3]
Somebody's in my head again
Somebody mixed my medicine
again [x3]

It really is so easy to have someone arrive and mix it all up, to not really know what you're on. Thankfully while often having negative effects, they can also be positive.

The Climb

Today's a little bit of an inspiration. I think we're often caught up in what we should be doing, where we should be going and where we need to be.

Isn't the most important bit actually completing the journey? How often have we traveled a path only to realise that once we've gotten to the end, the goal didn't really matter all that much? Having changed our point of view and ultimately ourselves along the way.

Today's song, "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus focuses on the challenges that we face. Not about getting to the top but simply going through the actual event itself. After all, we all have our mountains to climb, it's important to stop and take in the view once in a while.

I can almost see it.
That dream I'm dreaming, but
There's a voice inside my head saying
You'll never reach it
Every step I'm takin'
Every move I make
Feels lost with no direction,
My faith is shakin'
But I gotta keep tryin'
Gotta keep my head held high

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down, but
No I'm not breaking
I may not know it, but
These are the moments that
I'm gonna remember most
I've just gotta keep goin', and
I gotta be strong
Just keep pushing on, but

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side
It's the climb

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side
It's the climb

Keep on movin'
Keep climbin'
Keep faith baby
It's all about, it's all about
The climb
Keep the faith, keep your faith, woah

Didn't someone once say life's a journey, not a destination? Heck, take the long way home.

Everybody's Fool

Found a line posted in Facebook this morning that brought me to a single thought. Who are we really fooling we we play a part, when we try to be that which we think is who we should really be? Ultimately the only person we may end up really fooling is ourselves. Sure others may end up buying the story, but does what they think truly matter?

"Everybody's Fool" by Evanescense tells the tale of the fool... who thinks they have everyone else fooled. I think this is aimed primarily at the self styled celebrities but really could go for anyone who's caught up in playing the part. Sadly those that are playing their part are often the last to realise that they're done and caught out. At the end of it all, "To thine own self be true" and all that.

perfect by nature
icons of self-indulgence
just what we all need
more lies about a world that

never was and never will be
have you no shame? Don't you see me?
you know you've got everybody fooled

look here she comes now
bow down and stare in wonder
oh how we love you
no flaws when you're pretending
but now i know she

never was and never will be
you don't know how you've betrayed me
and somehow you've got everybody fooled

without the mask where will you hide?
can't find yourself lost in your lie

i know the truth now
i know who you are
and i don't love you anymore

it never was and never will be
you don't know how you've betrayed me
and somehow you've got everybody fooled

it never was and never will be
you're not real and you can't save me
somehow now you're everybody's fool

Ever notice that the longer we spend trying to fool everyone else, the only one that ends up being fooled is really ourselves?

Fly Me To The Moon

I read a rather sad piece this morning on the events of September the 11th. At the end of it all the bit that really got to me was that while all the planes had been grounded that the only items in the sky were satellites. Ultimately we could reach the moon but not each other. Kinda sad really.

So... today's song is an old classic written by Bart Howard but better know as one of Frankies tunes, "Fly me to the Moon".

Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars

In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby
kiss me

Fill my heart with song
and let me sing for evermore
you are all I long for
all I worship and adore

In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you

fill my heart with song
let me sing for evermore
you are all I long for
all I worship and adore

In other words, please be true !!!
In other words, in other words
I love...
You

Shoot for the moon because even if you miss you'll land among the stars.

Twilight

Was once again flipping through some of my "shared" files last night, when I got down to a few that required renaming I found this absolute gem.

"Twilight" by Vanessa Carlton reminds me of the fact that there are times when bear witness to something that changes us forever. This could be a meeting, or simply watching something unfold before us but more importantly is our perception of what it really is or was that shapes us. For at the end of it all, we really make our own reality.

I was stained, with a role in a day, not my own
But as you walked into my life you showed what needed to be shown
And I always knew, what was right I just didn't know that I might
Peel away and choose to see with such a different sight

And I will never see the sky the same way and
I will learn to say good-bye to yesterday and
I will never cease to fly if held down and
I will always reach too high cause I've seen, cause I've seen, twilight

Never cared never wanted
Never sought to see what flaunted
So on purpose so in my face Couldn't see beyond my own place
And it was so easy not to behold what I could hold
But you taught me I could change Whatever came within these shallow days

And I will never see the sky the same way and
I will learn to say good-bye to yesterday and
I will never cease to fly if held down and
I will always reach too high cause I've seen, cause I've seen

As the sun shines through it pushes away and pushes ahead
It fills the warmth of blue and leaves a chill instead and
I didn't know that I could be so blind to all that is so real
But as illusion dies I see there is so much to be revealed

And I will never see the sky the same way and
I will learn to say good-bye to yesterday and
I will never cease to fly if held down and
I will always reach too high cause I've seen, cause I've seen, twilight

I was stained, with a role, in a day not my own
But as you walked into my life you showed what needed to be shown
And I always knew, what was right
I just didn't know that I might
Peel away and choose to see with such a different sight

And I will never see the sky the same way and
I will learn to say good-bye to yesterday and
I will never cease to fly if held down and
I will always reach too high cause I've seen, cause I've seen, twilight...

We make our own reality, I guess we have to change our view at times. Sunrise or twilight, both change how the world is seen.

What's My Age Again

Here's an oldie but a goodie. Often I'm asked to confirm my age, not a bad thing I guess with many still thinking I'm on the younger side of my 20's. Guess the years have been good even if the weekends are starting to take their toll.

"What's My Age Again" by Blink 182 sums up my feelings on the matter mostly. I don't appear to ever really act my age so people are often surprised to know that I'm a bit older that at first assumed.

Thankfully my friends rarely say I should act my age. I guess when some think they've got it made and are all grown up they forget all the magic that they knew when so much younger. I'm clinging to that for as long as I can. After all, we don't stop playing because we get old, but rather get old because we stop playing.

I took her out it was a Friday night
I wore cologne to get the feeling right
We started making out and she took off my pants
But then I turned on the TV

And that's about the time she walked away from me
Nobody likes you when you're 23
I'm still more amused by TV shows
What the hell is ADD?
My friends say I should act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?

Then later on, on the drive home
I called her mom from a pay phone
I said I was the cops
And your husband's in jail
This state looks down on sodomy

And that's about the time that bitch hung up on me
Nobody loves you when your 23
I'm still more amused by prank phone calls
What the hell is caller ID?
My friends say I should act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?

And that's about the time she walked away from me
Nobody loves you when your 23
And you still act like you're in Freshman year
What the hell is wrong with me?
My friends say I should act my age
What's my age again?
What's my age again?

That's about the time she broke up with me (Please stay)
No one should take themselves so seriously (with me, please stay)
With many years ahead to fall in line (with me, please stay)
Why would you wish that on me? (with me)
I never want to act my age (please stay)
What's my age again? (with)
What's my age again? (me)

What's my age agaaaaaaaaain?

Simple answer really, 12.

Highway to Hell

Gotta love Twitter as it never ceases to remind me of the truly old school stuff.

"Highway to Hell" was one of those that I've heard parents say was devils music for years. Although these days I'll give Justin Bieber credit for that. Actually just about anyone claiming to be a rocker through the ages has been labeled evil or Satanic. So as a tribute to the fast and easy lifestyle, here's today's song by ACDC.

Living easy
Loving free
Season ticket for a one way ride
Asking nothing
Leave me be
Taken everything in my stride
Don't need reason
Don't need rhyme
Ain't nothin' I would rather do
Going down
By the time
My friends are gonna be there too, eh

I'm on a highway to hell
On the highway to hell
Highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell

No stop signs
Speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel
Gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me 'round
Hey Satan
Paid my dues
Playin' in a rockin' band
Hey momma
Look at me
I'm on my way to the Promised Land, wooh

I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell

Mmm, don't stop me
Eh,Eh,Eh

I'm on the highway to hell
On the highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
On the highway to
Hell
Highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
Highway to hell
Highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell

And I'm goin' down,all the waa-ay-aay, wohh
M-on the highway to hell

I guess we're all on that highway, it's really up to us how quickly we get there.

Cartoon Heroes

It's humorous Friday again, so we're going back to a few toons (as in cartoons).

Today's song is a funny from Aqua. "Cartoon Heroes" is just that... all those heroes from Saturday mornings. So today's song is dedicated to all of those that made us believe that someday we too could be a hero.

We are what we're supposed to be
Illusions of your fantasy
All dots and lines that speak and say
What we do is what you wish to do

We are the color symphony
We do the things you wanna see
Frame by frame, to the extreme

Our friends are so unreasonable
They do the unpredictable
All dots lines that speak and say
What we do is what you wish to do

It's all an orchestra of strings
Doin' unbelievable things
Frame by frame, to the extreme
One by one, we're makin' it fun

We are the Cartoon Heroes - oh-oh-oh
We are the ones who're gonna last forever
We came out of a crazy mind - oh-oh-oh
And walked out on a piece of paper

Here comes Spiderman, arachnophobian
Welcome to the toon town party
Here comes Superman, from never-neverland
Welcome to the toon town party

We learned to run at speed of light
And to fall down from any height
It's true, but just remember that
What we do is what you just can't do

And all the worlds of craziness
A bunch of stars that's chasing us
Frame by frame, to the extreme
One by one, we're makin' it fun

We are the Cartoon Heroes - oh-oh-oh
We are the ones who're gonna last forever
We came out of a crazy mind - oh-oh-oh
And walked out on a piece of paper

Here comes Spiderman, arachnophobian
Welcome to the toon town party
Here comes Superman, from never-neverland
Welcome to the toon town party

You think we're so mysterious
Don't take us all too serious
Be original, and remember that
What we do is what you just can't do

What we do is what you just can't do
What we do is what you just can't do
What we do is what you just can't do
What we do is what you just can't do

We are the Cartoon Heroes - oh-oh-oh
We are the ones who're gonna last forever
We came out of a crazy mind - oh-oh-oh
And walked out on a piece of paper

There's still more to come
And everyone will be
Welcomed at the
Toon - Toon
Town - Town
Party

At times I might be little more than a cartoon... but doesn't mean that I can't still be a hero too.

Flower of Scotland

With the Rugby World Cup about to start, I have no illusions as to who might actually stand a fair chance of winning the cup, but it is always nice to cheer on the little guy. While I'm expecting the usual suspects (Tri-Nations, 6-Nations + Argentina) to put in a good showing, only 4 of those sides really stand a chance... and the others, well, they just make up the numbers really.

I'll support Scotland, I always have, always will, it's just the way I roll. Then again I'm not really South African so I don't feel bad. If it's any consolation, my brother that was born in Scotland supports the Bok's, so that balances things, right?

So today's tune is the official un-official national anthem for all Scottish events, "Flower of Scotland". Sing it proudly, after all, it takes a real man to wear a skirt.

O flower of Scotland
When will we see your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

The hills are bare now
And autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now
Which those so dearly held
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

Those days are passed now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again
That stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

Well we can hope... but win or lose the boys will put in a good showing.

Handful of Rain

Having a bit of a moment last night, not really quite sure why. Then again, I'm not sure it really matters.

We're all sitting about waiting for something. Right now many are waiting for the Rugby World Cup to start. Others, for the seasons to change... and others for things far more important.

Me, I'm waiting for the rain. This is something I do every year around this time, waiting for that thunderstorm that officially marks Spring (lets face it, dates don't really define anything).

So today I'm going to an old classic from the Greatest Band of all time! Yeah, I know I've put this one in a few times already. "Handful of Rain" somehow seems to tell the tale of my life in so many ways. Right now, with too many years lost, I'm waiting on that storm. Something to shake things up, something to wash a lot away but most importantly, something to refresh and renew that which has gone thirsty for far too long.

The night is growing dark
From somewhere deep within
It shelters like an ark
And always takes you in

The barmaid walks on over
And pours another round
For a lost soul at the corner
Who prays he's never found

And the mind goes numb
'Till it's feeling no pain
And the soul cries out
For a handful of rain

Wash your women
In your whiskey
When your future's
In the past
And you're staring
Up at heaven
From the bottom
Of a glass
And you need some insulation
From the years you've
Had and lost
And you feel the perspiration
As you're adding up the cost

And the night rolls on
Like a slow moving train
And the soul cries out

There's a land
Beyond the living
There's a land
Beyond the dead
If it's true that
God's forgiving
Of the lives that we have led
In the distance
There's a thunder
And the air is thick and warm
And the patrons
Watch with wonder
The approaching of the storm

And the night rolls on
Like a slow moving train
And the soul cries out
For a handful of rain

All right

There's an old man in the corner
And he's smoking all the time
And the smoke is drifting
Upward and it's
Twisting in my
Twisting in my
Mind
In my mind

The whiskey's getting deeper
And I use it like a moat
There's a blues man in the distance and he's
Lost inside his
Lost inside his note
His note
His note

The night is growing dark
From somewhere deep within
It shelters like an ark
That always takes you in

And the night rolls on
Like a slow moving train
And the soul cries out
For a handful of rain

Difference is, I'm not looking for shelter... just the rain.

Rain

Well a few mornings of good clear skies and I think Spring is genuinely here. That said the seasons haven't officially changed until we get our first real thundershower.

So today's inspiration is just that, "Rain" by the Guano Apes. Rain, like water simply signifies life (unlike survivor where fire apparently does). The warm summer rain I've always found comforting, and above all other things has been the only thing that's ever made me home sick. Then again, some might simply argue where my home truly lies.

I'm alone
can't wait until I feel your rain
so unreal
can't find another place of your rain
I believe
I still believe in your warm rain
I'm alone
can't sleep until I feel your rain

How can I find
Love, Faith and Trust inside of your rain
so unreal, can't find another place of your rain
I believe
I still believe in your warm rain
so untrue
help me to find through your warm rain

I send out my wishes
you gave me promises
why don't you feel the same
(I'm sad, I feel like a little child,
somebody left, there is no rain)

Oh no, I'm waiting
how about your rain?
I can't believe
I still believe in your rain
like in heaven
I can't wait until I feel your rain
so where's your life
who's living the rest of your life

I can't, I can't,
I can't live this life, I can't live this life
I can't see in your eyes
can't change it, no more tries
leave everyone with a smile
and you're sad, you feel like a little child
somebody's left there is no rain

I send out my wishes...

I guess I'm waiting for the rain... the warm embracing rain.

Open Your Eyes

I was just flicking about and ended up coming across an older track that I'd "shared" a few years back.

Guano Apes are an interesting alternative band from Germany. Sticking primarily to English, it is easy enough to understand how they've stayed somewhat mainstream while being underground. A paradox you can only really find in music.

"Open Your Eyes" is one that just gives you a good kick where you'd likely need it most. You can't stay hidden, trapped inside forever. Eventually it's just those voices in your head that will talk to you... they tell twisted tales of half truths and suggestion.

Hide your face forever
dream and search forever

Have you ever been for sale ?
when your isms get smart
oh so selfish and mindless
with that comment in your eye

Do you think that you are hard ?
really harder than the other
man you're acting cold
if you are not in charge

Don't split your mentality
without thinking twice
your voice has got no reason
now is the time to face your lies

Open your eyes, open your mind
proud like a god don't pretend to be blind
trapped in yourself, break out instead
beat the machine that works in your head

Will you offer me some tricks
if I ever need them
would you go into that room
if I call 'em

Do you think that you are better
really better than the rest
you realize there's a problem
I know that you can give your best

Have you ever had a dream?
or is life just a trip?
a trip without chances
a chance to grow up quick

Open your eyes, open your mind
proud like a god don't pretend to be blind
trapped in yourself, break out instead
beat the machine that works in your head

Hide your face forever
dream and search forever
night and night you feel nothing
there's no way outside of my land

Open your eyes, open your mind
proud like a god don't pretend to be blind
trapped in yourself, break out instead
beat the machine that works in your head

Open your eyes, open your mind
proud like a god don't pretend to be blind
trapped in yourself, break out instead
beat the machine that works in your head

I guess it's time to open your eyes and see things as they really are and not how you think them to be.
