Ordinary Day

It happens fairly frequently than any ordinary day becomes something a lot more.

Today I'm going with "Ordinary Day" by Vanessa Carlton is such a cheery track that I just had to throw it at Monday.  The lines, "that everyday he finds, just what he's looking for" really sum up so much, you really will always find what you're looking for, but, the trick remains to shine.

There's so much about this song that I just love but think at the end of it all, it's about turning every day into something more than ordinary, "live while you can" is one of those lines that's been stolen and people now use it as an excuse to do silly things.  Ultimately they've got it rather wrong, do things because you need to live while you can... by all means look back afterwards and think, "heck that was silly or even down right stupid" if you must.

So for every ordinary day to be had:

Just a day,
Just an ordinary day.
Just trying to get by.
Just a boy,
Just an ordinary boy.
But he was looking to the sky.
And as he asked if I would come along
I started to realize
That everyday he finds
Just what he's looking for,
Like a shooting star he shines.

And He said take my hand,
Live while you can
Don't you feel your dreams lie right in the palm of your hand

And as he spoke, he spoke ordinary words
Although they did not feel
For I felt what I had not felt before
And you'd swear those words couldn't heal.
And as I looked up into those eyes
His vision borrows mine.
And I know he's no stranger,
For I feel I've held him for all of time.

And he said take my hand,
Live while you can
Don't you see your dreams lie right in the palm of your hand
In the palm of your hand.

Please come with me,
See what I see.
Touch the stars for time will not flee.
Time will not flee.
Can you see?

Just a dream, just an ordinary dream.
As I wake in bed
And the boy, that ordinary boy
Or was it all in my head?
Did he asked if I would come along
It all seemed so real.
But as I looked to the door,
I saw that boy standing there with a deal.

And he said take my hand,
Live while you can,
Don't you see all your dreams lie right in the palm of your hand
In the palm of your hand,
In the palm of your hand.

Just a day, just an ordinary day
Just trying to get by.
Just a boy,
Just an ordinary boy.
But he was looking to the sky.

Seems that even that which seems ordinary is so much more but what really matters is what you can see.

1000 Miles

I'm still a sucker for anything that's rocked out on a piano. It's easily the greatest of all instruments, well, at least I think so.

"1,000 Miles" by Vanessa Carlton has to be one of those that really sticks with you for a while. Just how far would you go to find someone that's been lost?

How far would I be willing to go? Well, every journey starts with a single step, after that who's really counting. As long as you eventually get there. I'm still not so sure that time heals, but perhaps it is each step of those thousand miles that really does the job.

Alternatively you can always try the Vanilla Sky cover of this song. As an Italian band their pronunciation is terrible, but you still get the song.

Making my way downtown
I'm walking fast
Faces passed
And I'm home bound

Staring blankly ahead
Just making my way
Making a way
Through the crowd

And I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder....

If I could fall
Into the sky
Do you think time
Would pass me by
'Cause you know I'd walk
A thousand miles
If I could
Just see you
Tonight

It's always times like these
When I think of you
And I wonder
If you ever
Think of me

'Cause everything's so wrong
And I don't belong
Living in your
Precious memories

'Cause I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder....

If I could fall
Into the sky
Do you think time
Would pass me by
'Cause you know I'd walk
A thousand miles
If I could
Just see you
Tonight

And I, I
Don't want to let you know
I, I
Drown in your memory
I, I
Don't want to let this go
I, I
Don't....

Making my way downtown
Walking fast
Faces passed
And I'm home bound

Staring blankly ahead
Just making my way
Making a way
Through the crowd

I still need you
I still miss you
And now I wonder....

If I could fall
Into the sky
Do you think time
Would pass us by
'Cause you know I'd walk
A thousand miles
If I could
Just see you...

If I could fall
Into the sky
Do you think time
Would pass me by
'Cause you know I'd walk
A thousand miles
If I could
Just see you
If I could
Just hold you
Toniiiiiight!!

Do memories fade as time passes by? Do we at times forget to take the next step in fear of getting further from our starting point?

Twilight

Was once again flipping through some of my "shared" files last night, when I got down to a few that required renaming I found this absolute gem.

"Twilight" by Vanessa Carlton reminds me of the fact that there are times when bear witness to something that changes us forever. This could be a meeting, or simply watching something unfold before us but more importantly is our perception of what it really is or was that shapes us. For at the end of it all, we really make our own reality.

I was stained, with a role in a day, not my own
But as you walked into my life you showed what needed to be shown
And I always knew, what was right I just didn't know that I might
Peel away and choose to see with such a different sight

And I will never see the sky the same way and
I will learn to say good-bye to yesterday and
I will never cease to fly if held down and
I will always reach too high cause I've seen, cause I've seen, twilight

Never cared never wanted
Never sought to see what flaunted
So on purpose so in my face Couldn't see beyond my own place
And it was so easy not to behold what I could hold
But you taught me I could change Whatever came within these shallow days

And I will never see the sky the same way and
I will learn to say good-bye to yesterday and
I will never cease to fly if held down and
I will always reach too high cause I've seen, cause I've seen

As the sun shines through it pushes away and pushes ahead
It fills the warmth of blue and leaves a chill instead and
I didn't know that I could be so blind to all that is so real
But as illusion dies I see there is so much to be revealed

And I will never see the sky the same way and
I will learn to say good-bye to yesterday and
I will never cease to fly if held down and
I will always reach too high cause I've seen, cause I've seen, twilight

I was stained, with a role, in a day not my own
But as you walked into my life you showed what needed to be shown
And I always knew, what was right
I just didn't know that I might
Peel away and choose to see with such a different sight

And I will never see the sky the same way and
I will learn to say good-bye to yesterday and
I will never cease to fly if held down and
I will always reach too high cause I've seen, cause I've seen, twilight...

We make our own reality, I guess we have to change our view at times. Sunrise or twilight, both change how the world is seen.
