Army of Me

Another track from the Sucker Punch soundtrack.  I just loved the dreamy lyrics while the bass is pounding away.  Generally not my scene, but the lyrics really suited the part.

"Army of Me" by Bjork really hit a chord, very simple lyrics but really slam home a point.  At the end of it all, when someone argues over "...what army" it's quite simple.  The army of me.

Much of the movie promotes the idea that you have to get up and do things yourself, usually with the aid of others.  Generally I enjoyed the movie, the over the top scenes and overall exaggeration of pretty much everything.

Stand up
You've got to manage
I won't sympathize
Anymore.

And if you complain once more
You'll meet an army of me
And if you complain once more
You'll meet an army of me

You're alright
There's nothing wrong
Self-sufficience please!
And get to work.

And if you complain once more
You'll meet an army of me
And if you complain once more
You'll meet an army of me
Army of me

You're on your own now
We won't save you
Your rescue-squad
Is to exhausted

And if you complain once more
You'll meet an army of me
And if you complain once more
You'll meet an army of me
And if you complain once more
You'll meet an army of me
And if you complain once more
You'll meet an army of me
Army of me

No matter what, simply stand up and even if you're an army of one, make your stand.

Broken

Today is just one of those days... Yet another in the world and yet not. Friday's have forever been awesome.

Then I heard this song come on over the radio. "Broken" by Seether, in this case featuring Amy Lee, always makes me think of my dad. I guess there are always times that I'll feel somewhat broken that he's no longer with us. Somethings we can't change.

I'm not sure if any of the demons are left to fight... somehow that doesn't really matter any more but I guess there's still a lot more left to learn.

I wanted you to know that I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph and I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

Because I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

I'm still not sure if the worst is over just yet, or if it can ever be, but somehow I'm pretty sure I've become strong enough.

Sweet Dreams

I've no doubt posted this before. But as I spent the weekend catching up on movies... here it is again.

"Sweet Dreams" by Emily Browning (who plays "Baby Doll" in the movie) gets the movie Sucker Punch off to a dreamy if somewhat dazed start. In all I really enjoyed the movie. It was far too surreal at times and just disjointed, but somehow that was really the point.

Set between a brothel and mental asylum, this entire movie works between moments of madness, opulence and extreme violence - not to mention they all look pretty good doing it. Between these moments however there are some very good points made, and ultimately you're left wondering who the real star of the show is.

Full of imagery that at times is over the top, but somehow fits the plot, panned by many, but really enjoyed by me. In the end it's all about breaking free, pulling off a rescue. The point being when all is said and done who can you rely on to save what you love, rescue what needs rescuing and decide what is right and real?

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
Travel the world and the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something
Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
Travel the world and the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something
Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused

I wanna use you and abuse you
I wanna know what's inside you

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
Travel the world and the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something
Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused

I'm gonna use you and abuse you
I'm gonna know what's inside
Gonna use you and abuse you
I'm gonna know what's inside you

"Who honors those we love with the very life we live? Who sends monsters to kill us, and at the same time sings that we'll never die? Who teaches us what's real, and how to laugh at lies? Who decides why we live, and what we'll die to defend? Who chains us, and who holds the key to set us free? It's you." - Sweet Pea

You're a Star

I've posted this one before, but after a discussion with a friend on Friday I feel compelled to add it again. In the case of sitting in the dark or the light there is no case... You need to BE the light.

"You're a Star" comes from the feel good movie, Josie and the Pussycats. It follows on the whole "to thy own self be true" theme. It's amazing how many of these cheesy movies tried to portray this single message for so long.

I feel good yeah i feel fine
I've stopped complainin' all the time
You'll get yours and baby I'll get mine

So don't be fooled by what you see
In movies magazines and on TV
Just what do they know about you and me
We don't care what they say
We'll be alright we'll be ok

Na na na na
Na na na na
Na na na na yeah yeah

So stand up straight and stand up tall
Don't waste your time in shopping malls
Slam the door and let's tear down the walls
Crack it up let's mess around
Be who you are 'cause you're a star

Na na na na
Na na na na
Na na na na yeah yeah

We're all stars, and once we've got that right, you'll realise that we shine brightest at the darkest of times.

Keep on Swimming

Today's song comes from a very unlikely source - Dory from "Finding Nemo". There was a lot of that movie that really touched me in some way, but then again I don't think there has been a Pixar movie that hasn't.

I'm really battling to sleep, yet again, and it's leaving me pretty drained and low. But I'm suddenly reminded, "Just Keep On Swimming".

Hey Mr Grump Gills
You know what you gotta do when life gets you down?
Just keep swimming
Just keep swimming
Just keep swimming swimming swimming
What do we do we swim, swim, swim
OH HO HO How I love to swim
When you WAAAAAANNTTT to swim you want to swim

I do love to swim...

Cheers (I'll Drink To That)

The weekend is finally over (and not too soon mind you). Wow... that was a full weekend of stuff. Today's song goes out to Shaz, she's got to be one of the few folk that can actually keep up with me.

"Cheers" by Rihanna really is a weekend song. While not one of my favourite tracks, I do enjoy the theme. Here's to the weekend it was well worth it.

Cheers to the freakin' weekend
I drink to that, yeah yeah
Oh let the Jameson sink in
I drink to that, yeah yeah
Don't let the bastards get ya down
Turn it around with another round
There's a party at the bar everybody put your glasses up and I drink to that
I drink to that.

Life's too short to be sittin' round miserable
People gon' talk whether you doing bad or good, yeah
Got a drink on my mind and my mind on my money, yeah
Looking so bomb, gonna find me a honey
Got my Ray-Bans on and I'm feelin' hella cool tonight, yeah
Everybody's vibin' so don't nobody start a fight, yeah-ah-ah-ah

Cheers to the freakin' weekend
I drink to that, yeah yeah
Oh, let the Jameson sink in
I drink to that, yeah yeah
Don't let the bastards get ya down
Turn it around with another round
There's a party at the bar everybody put your glasses up and I drink to that
I drink to that.

'Bout to hop on the bar, put it all on my card tonight, yeah.

Might be mad in the morning but you know we goin' hard tonight
It's getting coyote ugly up in here, no tyra
It's only up from here, no downward spiral
Got my Ray-Bans on and I'm feelin' hella cool tonight, yeah
Everybody's vibin' so don't nobody start a fight, yeah

Cheers to the freakin' weekend
I drink to that, yeah yeah
Oh let the Jameson sink in
I drink to that, yeah yeah
Don't let the bastards get ya down
Turn it around with another round
There's a party at the bar everybody put your glasses up and I drink to that
I drink to that.

Cheers to the freakin weekend
I drink to that, yeah yeah
Oh let the Jameson sink in
I drink to that, yeah yeah
Don't let the bastards get ya down
Turn it around with another round
There's a party at the bar everybody put your glasses up and I drink to that
I drink to that.
And I drink to that.
I drink to that.
And I drink to that.

Here's to the weekend, and yes, it was worth drinking to!

Don't Kick the Chair

While today's song seems rather bleak, there's something amazingly cheery about it somehow. When singing about having a noose around your neck and then kicking out the chair... well... Guess I'm the only one that finds it cheery.

"Don't Kick the Chair" by Dia Frampton really is about simply never giving up. Ultimately I've just loved Dia's voice from the moment I first heard it and while disappointed that she didn't become "The Voice" I don't think that really matters somehow.

Have you ever felt like everybody's watching
Waiting for you to lose
Have you ever felt like you're living in a spot light
Searching for the real you
Tell me have you ever woken up
Just to wish you could close your eyes
Getting hard to find a friend in a city like this
Where you can't even trust a smile

There are lonely nights when you see no hope
And you're feeling short of breathe
Like a whole damn world is a braded rope
In a noose surround your neck

Don't kick the chair
It's gonna get better
Don't kick the chair
It can only get better

Have you ever felt love, really really felt love
The kind I could save a life
But right before you know it you find out in a moment
You're gonna have to say goodbye
There are lonely nights when you see no hope
And you're feeling short of breathe
Like a whole damn world is a braded rope
In a noose surround your neck

Don't kick the chair
It's gonna get better
Don't kick the chair
It can only get better

[Kid Cudi]
Yep yep you know
If I can make it through then you can to
Yep yep I'm good focus like always
Feels like I've been hit hit by ten brick walls
Some people like you just sit sit and wait for you to fall
Then bound back way quicker than you fell down
Laugh in their face like what
See nothing can break me
No no no no listen
If you gotta think twice about life
Some really ain't right
You don't need no help
You could be better all by yourself
You could be better all by yourself
You could be better all by yourself yeah
You could be better all by yourself ooh

Don't kick the chair
It's gonna get better
Don't kick the chair
It can only get better

Don't kick the chair
It's gonna get better
Don't kick the chair
It can only get better

So no matter where you are, things will get better, life's funny like that.

Smile

"Smile" by Avril Lavigne is one of those simple yet happy songs. I'm constantly reminded that it just takes that one thing to make me smile.

I might be a little crazy, I hope even more rock'n'roll but thankfully there is just one of me but, I still smile.

You know that I'm a crazy bitch
[voice] I do what I want when I feel like it
All I wanna do is lose control
But you don't really give a shit
[voice] you don't let it go let it go with it
cause you're fucking crazy rock'n'roll

you said hey
what's your name
it took one look
and now I'm not the same
yeah you said hey
and since that day
you stole my heart
and you're the one to blame

Yeah
and that's why I smile
It's been a while
since every day and everything has
felt this right
and now you're turning all around
and suddenly you're all I need
The reason why I smile

Last night I blacked out I think
[voice] What did you, what did you put in my drink
I remember making out but then
I woke up with a new tattoo
[voice] your name was on me and my name was on you
I would do it all over again

you said hey
what's your name
it took one look
and now I'm not the same
yeah you said hey
and since that day
you stole my heart
and you're the one to blame

Yeah
and that's why I smile
It's been a while
since every day and everything has
felt this right
and now you're turning all around
and suddenly you're all I need
The reason why I smile

You know that I'm a crazy bitch
I do what I want when I feel like it
All I wanna do is lose control
You know that I'm a crazy bitch
I do what I want when I feel like it
All I wanna do is lose control

Yeah
and that's why I smile
It's been a while
since every day and everything has
felt this right
and now you're turning all around
and suddenly you're all I need
The reason why I smile

All we need is that one happy thought (a little pixie dust) and we can fly.

Tonight Tonight

Posting a second one today, well... because I can!

"Tonight, Tonight" is a Smashing Pumpkins classic. No idea why exactly I felt the need to share this one (no doubt, yet again) but it just makes me happy.

Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave, without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel

Believe, believe in me, believe, believe!
That life can change, that you're not stuck in vain
We’re not the same, we're different.
Tonight, tonight, tonight
So bright
Tonight, tonight

And you know you're never sure
But you're sure you could be right
If you held yourself up to the light
And the embers never fade, in your city by the lake
The place where you were born

Believe, believe in me, believe, believe!
In the resolute urgency of now
And if you believe there's not a chance tonight
Tonight, tonight, tonight
So bright tonight, tonight!

We’ll crucify the insincere tonight (Tonight)
We’ll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight (Tonight)
We’ll find a way to offer up the night (Tonight)
The indescribable moments of your life (Tonight)
The impossible is possible tonight (Tonight)
Believe in me as I believe in you,
Tonight, tonight, tonight,
Tonight
Tonight…

Ultimately, the impossible remains possible... tonight :)

Part Of Me

Sometimes you're left thinking that you've had everything taken from you but then you come down to the realisation that there remains a limit as to what exactly can be taken from you.

Ultimately you have to stop think and declare that "this is what will not be taken". I recall having a discussion with a friend some time back where all I could offer was, "Don't let it change who you are." While tough, don't stop being who you need to be... don't let someone take that away from who you are. At those times when you think you've run out of you-ness, simply keep going, you'll find you still have enough in your tank to get you where you need to be.

"Part Of Me" by Katy Perry pretty much sums that up. Do your best to break me, but ultimately you can't harm that which makes me. The simple reasoning there is, I won't let you.

Days like this I want to drive
away
Pack my bags and watch your
shadow fade
'Cause you chewed me up and
spit me out
Like I was poison in your mouth
You took my light, you drained
me down
That was then and this is now
Now look at me
This is the part of me that
you're never gonna ever take
away from me, no
This is the part of me that
you're never gonna ever take
away from me, no
Throw your sticks and stones
Throw your bombs and your
blows
But you're not gonna break my
soul
This is the part of me that
you're never gonna ever take
away from me, no
I just wanna throw my phone
away
Find out who is really there for
me
'Cause you ripped me off, your
love was cheap
Was always tearing at the seams
I fell deep and you let me drown
But that was then and this is
now
Now look at me
This is the part of me that
you're never gonna ever take
away from me, no
This is the part of me that
you're never gonna ever take
away from me, no
Throw your sticks and stones
Throw your bombs and your
blows
But you're not gonna break my
soul
This is the part of me that
you're never gonna ever take
away from me, no
Now look at me, I'm sparkling
A firework, a dancing flame
You won't ever put me out
again
I'm glowing, oh woah oh
So you can keep the diamond
ring
It don't mean nothing anyway
In fact you can keep everything
Yeah, yeah
Except for me
This is the part of me that
you're never gonna ever take
away from me, no
This is the part of me that
you're never gonna ever take
away from me, no (away from
me)
Throw your sticks and stones
Throw your bombs and your
blows
But you're not gonna break my
soul
This is the part of me that
you're never gonna ever take
away from me, no
This is the part of me, no, (away
from me)
This is the part of me, me, me,
me, me, me, no
Throw your sticks and stones
Throw your bombs and your
blows
But you're not gonna break my
soul
This is the part of me that
you're never gonna ever take
away from me, no

Sometimes you just have to stop and say, "No!" And simply not let that bit of you fade away.
