Disarm

As I sat down this morning, this was what came to me...

"Disarm" by the Smashing Pumpkins tells a tale of lost innocence, of having to take a stand whether you like it or not. I guess we all have to do that at some point. The world can be a cruel place at times with a smile often turning against us.

While this may seem kind of harsh, I prefer to take it and turn it around. This is one of my favourite tracks from the Pumpkins because of it's gentle melody. Funny how something so deep and hard can come over so soft, then again, I guess that's the point of the song.

Do we end up simply reflecting that which has shaped us. If "the killer in me is the killer in you" I guess we do, but then again with every choice we make being our own, who really is to blame. When the time comes to make your choice, turn the smile around and send it back. The real question would be, "What is that smile and what does it truly represent?"

Disarm you with a smile
And cut you like you want me to
Cut that little child
Inside of me and such a part of you
Ooh, the years burn
Ooh, the years burn

I used to be a little boy
So old in my shoes
And what I choose is my choice
What's a boy supposed to do?
The killer in me is the killer in you
My love
I send this smile over to you

Disarm you with a smile
And leave you like they left me here
To wither in denial
The bitterness of one who's left alone
Ooh, the years burn
Ooh, the years burn, burn, burn

I used to be a little boy
So old in my shoes
And what I choose is my voice
What's a boy supposed to do?
The killer in me is the killer in you
My love
I send this smile over to you

The killer in me is the killer in you
Send this smile over to you
The killer in me is the killer in you
Send this smile over to you
The killer in me is the killer in you
Send this smile over to you

Instead, I'll simply send a smile... the reflection, the killer in me is the killer in you. Take from that what you will.
