The One and Only

"You are unique, just like everyone else." Never a truer word spoken. While I've said before that people just don't realise how awesome they really are, I remain constantly disappointed by this. I guess I live in hope that someday everyone will be taking their "I'm Awesome Pill" on a daily basis.

With that in mind I come to todays tune, a real nostalgic stumble through my past. "The One and Only" by Chesney Hawkes. I think this one-hit-wonder was big when I was in primary school! Cheese aside the message in this one pretty much covers my idea of awesomeness.

I am the one and only, oh yeah

Call me, call me by my name or call me by number
You put me through it
I'll still be doing it the way I do it
And yet, you try to make me forget
Who I really am, don't tell me I know best
I'm not the same as all the rest

I am the one and only
Nobody I'd rather be
I am the one and only
You can't take that away from me

I've been a player in the crowd scene
A flicker on the big screen
My soul embraces one more in a million faces
High hopes and aspirations, and years above my station
Maybe but all this time I've tried to walk with dignity and pride

I am the one and only
Nobody I'd rather be
I am the one and only
You can't take that away from me

I can't wear this uniform without some compromises
Because you'll find out that we come
In different shapes and sizes
No one can be myself like I can
For this job I'm the best man
And while this may be true
You are the one and only you

I am the one and only
Nobody I'd rather be
I am the one and only
You can't take that away from me

I am the one and only
Nobody I'd rather be
I am the one and only
You can't take that away from me

I'm quite happy being me because simply put, I'm awesome! Not awesome like you, but awesome like me.

Hard Rock Hallelujah

Well we've just had a good discussion on religion, intolerance and war here in the office which brought me back to this one. "Hard Rock Hallelujah" by Lordi won them the Eurovision Song Contest, kinda putting the right up there with ABBA and Katrina and the Waves. Very amusing.

I'm not a religious person, I just don't get it, but some might argue I'm religious about many things. Usually beer is mentioned in the same breath. But I wonder just how much calmer the world would be if they ignored the differences and just rocked the place together. Somehow, I'm pretty sure that'll never happen.

Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!

The saints are crippled
On this sinners' night
Lost are the lambs with no guiding light

The walls come down like thunder
The rock's about to roll
It's the arockalypse
Now bare your soul

All we need is lightning
With power and might
Striking down the prophets of FALSE
As the moon is rising
Give us the sign
Now let us rise up in awe

Rock 'n Roll angels bring thyn Hard Rock Hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock 'n Roll angels bring thyn Hard Rock Hallelujah
In God's creation supernatural high

The true believers
Thou shall be saved
Brothers and sisters, keep strong in the faith

On the day of Rockoning
It's who dares, wins
You will see the jokers soon'll be the new kings

All we need is lightning
With power and might
Striking down the prophets of FALSE
As the moon is rising
Give us the sign
Now let us rise up in awe

Rock 'n Roll angels bring thyn Hard Rock Hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock 'n roll angels bring thyn Hard Rock Hallelujah
In God's creation supernatural high

Wings on my back
I got horns on my head
My fangs are sharp
And my eyes are red
Not quite an angel
Or the one that fell
Now choose to join us or go straight to Hell

Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Hallelujah!
Hard Rock Yeah!

Rock 'n Roll angels bring thyn Hard Rock Hallelujah
Demons and angels all in one have arrived
Rock 'n Roll angels bring thyn Hard Rock Hallelujah
In God's creation supernatural high

Hard Rock Hallelujah!

Jokers to be the new kings... something akin to the meek shall inherit the earth?

Milk

Todays tune just suddenly popped up. I'd put this particular song up there with "Hello" from Evenescense.

"Milk" by Garbage is an equally haunting track that seems to just gnaw on you. While there are many interpretations as to what exactly the song may mean or who it might be referencing I'll go out on a limb and say that we're all the "milk", but left alone long enough and we'll spoil.

I am milk
I am red hot kitchen
And I am cool
Cool as the deep blue ocean

I am lost
So I am cruel
But I’d be love and sweetness
If I had you

I’m waiting
I’m waiting for you
I’m waiting
I’m waiting for you

I am weak
But I am strong
I can use my tears to
Bring you home

I’m waiting
I’m waiting for you
I’m waiting
I’m waiting for you
I’m waiting
I’m waiting for you

I am milk
I am red hot kitchen
And I am cool
Cool as the deep blue ocean

I’m waiting
I’m waiting for you
I’m waiting
I’m waiting for you

I’m waiting
I’m waiting for you
I’m aching
I’m aching for you

I’m waiting
I’m waiting
I’m waiting for you

I guess I'm still waiting.

A Long December

Well I can't complain too much about December. I managed to close off the year by bringing the awesomeness. Possibly too much to drink, but in all was a Christmas to remember and a new year that can't be remembered. Although I was one of the last ones standing on both occasions.

"A Long December" by Counting Crows covers most of they way last year went for me. December being a chosen cut off point to let it all go. There is little reason to dwell on the past, if we're lucky enough to have learnt the lessons along the way then it's not all in vain.

A long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember the last thing that you said as you were leaving
Oh the days go by so fast

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think that I could be forgiven
I wish you would
(Na na na, etc. yeah)

The smell of hospitals in winter
And the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters, but no pearls
All at once you look across a crowded room
To see the way that light attaches to a girl

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think you might come to California
I think you should
(Na na na, etc. yeah)

Drove up to Hillside Manor sometime after 2 a.m.
And talked a little while about the year
I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower
Makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her

And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass

And it's one more day up in the canyon
And it's one more night in Hollywood
It's been so long since I've seen the ocean
I guess I should
(Na na na, etc. yeah)

But there's plenty reason to believe that this year WILL be better than the last.

Lie Lie Lie

Lies, damn lies and statistics. That's where we're going with today's tune.

Serj Tankian of System of a Down fame offers this track: "Lie Lie Lie". While written as a more humorous dramatic piece (yes you can combine the two).

I guess we all accept lies at times and are left to pay the price, one way or another.

My baby, my baby
let me know
because you love me, you love me
Let me go
and youre my lover, you pay me
Twice my size
And on your knees you lay
In my Thighs,

Take my hand and lets end it all,
She broke her little bones
On the boulders below,
Take my hand and lets end it all,

My baby, My baby
let me go
And if you love me, you love me
Let me go,
Cause Im your brother, your brother,
Have some pride,
And now you love me, you love me
Then die tonight

Take my hand and lets end it all,
She broke her little bones
On the boulders below,
Take my hand and lets end it all,
Broke her little bones
On the boulders below,
And while she fell I delightfully said,

Lalalalalalalala lie lie lie
Lalalalalalalala lie lie lie
Lalalalalalalala lie lie lie
Lalalalalalalala lie lie lie

She took my hand and I let her go
She broke her little bones
On the boulders below,
Took my hand and she ended it all,
Broke her little bones on the boulders below,
And while she fell, I smiled.

Lalalalalalalala lie lie lie
Lalalalalalalala lie lie lie
Lalalalalalalala lie lie lie
Lalalalalalalala lie lie lie

Lies... sometimes it's better to end it all that to have to face up to them.

My Immortal

Well, there are good days and bad days. I guess we're all going to have those "sorry for ourselves" days. I suppose it's only a bad thing if those outnumber the awesome days.

Todays song, "My Immortal" by Evanescence sums that up to some degree. I'm definitely tired and while all wounds take time to heal, some seem to take a lot longer. The real question I suppose is what kind of scars will remain.

I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
Because your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I've held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

You used to captivate me
by your resonating light
But now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I've held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I've held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

Sometimes things just won't leave us alone no matter how many times we ask.

Dirty Diana

Surprisingly I've not added anything by Michael Jackson to this blog to date, which in many ways has to be wrong! Love him or hate him, Michael Jackson was a legend.

This one I was reminded of via Twitter this morning as it had suddenly crept up on someone else. "Dirty Diana" has to be one of the more rock style tracks that Michael put down over the years. This is one of the mans tracks that occasionally make its way onto my play list.

Oh No . . .
Oh No . . .
Oh No . . .

You'll Never Make Me Stay
So Take Your Weight Off Of Me
I Know Your Every Move
So Won't You Just Let Me Be?
I've Been Here Times Before
But I Was Too Blind To See
That You Seduce Every Man
This Time You Won't Seduce Me

She's Saying "That's Ok
Hey Baby Do What You Please
I Have The Stuff That You Want
I Am The Thing That You Need"
She Looked Me Deep In The Eyes
She's Touchin' Me So To Start
She Says There's No Turnin' Back
She Trapped Me In Her Heart

Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, No
Dirty Diana
Let Me Be!

Oh No . . .
Oh No . . .
Oh No . . .

She Likes The Boys In The Band
She Knows When They Come To Town
Every Musician's Fan
After The Curtain Comes Down
She Waits At Backstage Doors
For Those Who Have Prestige
Who Promise Fortune And Fame
A Life That's So Carefree
She's Saying "That's Ok
Hey Baby Do What You Want
I'll Be Your Night Lovin' Thing
I'll Be The Freak You Can Taunt
And I Don't Care What You Say
I Want To Go Too Far
I'll Be Your Everything
If You Make Me A Star"

Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, No
Dirty Diana . . .
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, No
Dirty Diana . . .
Diana!
Diana!
Dirty Diana!
It's Dia . . .Aa . . .Aa . . .
Come On!

She Said "I Have To Go Home
'Cause I'm Real Tired You See
Now I Hate Sleepin' Alone
Why Don't You Come With Me?"
I Said "My Baby's At Home
She's Probably Worried Tonight
I Didn't Call On The Phone
To Say That I'm Alright"

Diana Walked Up To Me,
She Said "I'm All Yours Tonight"
And Then I Ran To The Phone
Sayin' "Baby I'm Alright"
I Said "But Unlock The Door
'Cause I Forgot The Key"
She Said "He's Not Coming Back
Because He's Sleeping With Me"

Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, No
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana, Nah
Dirty Diana . . .
Come On!
Come On!
Come On!
Come On!...

I think we all have a "Dirty Diana" somewhere in our past, I think it's best that they stay there.
