Spent some time going through a whole load of files on my computer and as many are not named or poorly named it's like Christmas. So clicking each to find out what they contain I came across today's song.
"Who You Are" by Jessie J makes one simple point: "It's okay not to be okay." Reminds me of all the times when people have asked, "are you alright?" Only to be met with a "Not really." from me. Fair enough there are times where nobody can do anything about it. But hey, that's life.
Instead of being the one the world wants you to be, perhaps it's time to not really fit the mold. I don't think most people like doing that, they simply do what is expected rather than what they should.
I stare at my reflection in the mirror
Why am I doing this to myself?
Losing my mind on a tiny error,
I nearly left the real me on the shelf.
No, no, no, no, no...
Don't lose it all in the blur of the start!
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay.
Sometimes it's hard to follow your heart.
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are!
(who you are [x11])
Brushing my hair, do I look perfect?
I forgot what to do to fit the mold, yeah!
The more I try the less is working, yeah yeah yeah
'Cause everything aside me screams
No, no, no, no, no...
Don't lose it all in the blur of the start!
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay.
Sometimes it's hard to follow your heart.
But tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
There's nothing wrong with who you are!
Yes, no's, egos, fake shows, like BOOM,
Just go and leave me alone!
Real talk, real life, good luck, goodnight,
With a smile, that's my home!
That's my home, no...
No, no, no, no, no...
Don't lose it all in the blur of the start!
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay...
Sometimes it's hard to follow your heart.
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are!
yeah yeah yeah
It's okay to not be okay and it's okay to cry sometimes. I think there are too many people who forget that and at the end of it all, they end up missing out on who they really are.
After all, it was Cher who said, "To thine own self be true". Okay, she didn't say it (neither did Mel Gibson for that matter) it was that Polonius guy.

Poisoning Pigeons in the Park
Before Weird Al... before Twisted Tunes... before parody was the norm of the day there was, Tom Lehrer.
Originally banned as most truly offensive performers were Tom really took a good few causes and highlighted their plight. "Pollution" is one prime example.
However today I awoke as the sun was just trying to peek over the hills. The sky was clear and the air strangely warm. And the only thought that came to mind was, "Spring is here!!!" With that in mind, the only song that could really come to mind was this gem - "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park".
I'd like to take you now on wings of song, as it were, and try and help you forget perhaps for a while your drab, wretched lives. Here's a song all about spring-time in general, and in particular, about one of the many delightful pastimes the coming of spring affords us all.
Spring is here, a-suh-puh-ring is here.
Life is skittles and life is beer.
I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring.
I do, don't you? 'Course you do.
But there's one thing that makes spring complete for me,
And makes ev'ry Sunday a treat for me.
All the world seems in tune
On a spring afternoon,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
Ev'ry Sunday you'll see
My sweetheart and me,
As we poison the pigeons in the park.
When they see us coming, the birdies all try an' hide,
But they still go for peanuts when coated with cyanide.
The sun's shining bright,
Ev'rything seems all right,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
Lalaalaalalaladoodiedieedoodoodoo
We've gained notoriety,
And caused much anxiety
In the Audubon Society
With our games.
They call it impiety,
And lack of propriety,
And quite a variety
Of unpleasant names.
But it's not against any religion
To want to dispose of a pigeon.
So if Sunday you're free,
Why don't you come with me,
And we'll poison the pigeons in the park.
And maybe we'll do
In a squirrel or two,
While we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
We'll murder them{ all }amid laughter and merriment.
Except for the few we take home to experiment.
My pulse will be quickenin'
With each drop of strychnine
We feed to a pigeon.
It just takes a smidgen!
To poison a pigeon in the park.
Okay, I'm not going to be poisoning any pigeons anytime soon... but could it be that spring is finally here?

Hit Me Baby One More Time
Well I'm thinking of all those funny things that get way too much radio play, yet still make me smile. So today we'll go back to the very beginning...
"Hit Me Baby One More Time" by Britney was pretty much where it all started. Gotta say that I wasn't all that enthralled, but as time has gone by think she's really matured, pretty much as a good cheese would! :)
So just because we're avoiding anything serious on Friday's, here's today's song:
Oh baby, baby
Oh baby, baby
Oh baby, baby
How was I supposed to know
That something wasn't right here
Oh baby baby
I shouldn't have let you go
And now you're out of sight, yeah
Show me, how you want it to be
Tell me baby
'Cause I need to know now what we've got
My loneliness is killing me
I must confess, I still believe
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time
Oh baby, baby
The reason I breathe is you
Boy you got me blinded
Oh baby, baby
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
That's not the way I planned it
Show me, how you want it to be
Tell me baby
'Cause I need to know now what we've got
My loneliness is killing me
I must confess, I still believe
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time
Oh baby, baby
Oh baby, baby
Ah, yeah, yeah
Oh baby, baby
How was I supposed to know
Oh pretty baby
I shouldn't have let you go
I must confess, that my loneliness
Is killing me now
Don't you know I still believe
That you will be here
And give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time
My loneliness is killing me
I must confess, I still believe
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time
I must confess that my loneliness
Is killing me now
Don't you know I still believe
That you will be here
And give me a sign
Hit me baby one more time
What can I say other than, it makes me happy.

Best of Both Worlds
It's been forever since I last posted. I'll use the excuse that I only post from work and that we've been seriously under pressure these last few weeks. Anyhow, I'm back...
I usually put on the tv in the mornings, tuned into Expresso and came across this gem by a Hannah Montanna/Miley Cyrus impersonator (Clasina Preston) singing this one. The outfit was, should I say colourful and the whole act a little bizarre. I loved it.
So today we'll consider the fact that people always say you can't both. Kinda like having a cake and eating it - but then, what is the point?!
Today, I'll accept that I do want the "Best of Both Worlds" and damn it... I'll get it! :)
Oh yeah
Come on
You get the limo out front
Hottest styles, every shoe, every color
Yeah, when you're famous it can be kinda fun
It's really you but no one ever discovers
In some ways you're just like all your friends
But on stage you're a star
You get the best of both worlds
Chill it out, take it slow
Then you rock out the show
You get the best of both worlds
Mix it all together and you know that it's the best of both worlds
The best of both worlds
You go to movie premiers (is that Orlando Bloom?)
Hear your songs on the radio
Livin' two lives is a little weird
But school's cool cause nobody knows
Yeah you get to be a small town girl
But big time when you play your guitar
You get the best of both worlds
Chill it out, take it slow
Then you rock out the show
You get the best of both worlds
Mix it all together and you know that it's the best of both
You know the best of both worlds
Pictures and autographs
You get your face in all the magazines
The best part is that you get to be who ever you wanna be
(Best! Best!) Yeah, the best of both!
(Best! Best!) You got the best of both!
(Best! Best!) Come on, the best of both!
Who would of thought that a girl like me
Would double as a superstar
You get the best of both worlds
Chill it out, take it slow
Then you rock out the show
You get the best of both worlds
Mix it all together and you know that it's the best of both worlds
You get the best of both worlds
Without the shades and the hair
You can go anywhere
You get the best of both girls
Mix it all together
Oh, yeah
It's so much better 'cause you know you've got the best of both worlds
Couldn't help but really chuckle at this one this morning. So, if nothing else, at least it made me smile

Blank Page
Well, as Ozzy would say, I'm going through changes. Okay it's a haircut and a shave... but for anyone that knows me, a haircut is a massive thing.
It's time to Turn the page and start a new chapter... perhaps a whole new story?
Today's song, "Blank Page" by the Smashing Pumpkins tells an age old tale. Ghosts of those that have come and gone.
Blank page was all the rage
Never meant to say anything
In bed, I was half dead
Tired of dreaming of rest
Got dressed, drove the state line
Looking for you at the five and dime
Stop sign told me stay at home
Told me you were not alone
Blank page was all the rage
Never meant to hurt anyone
In bed, I was half dead
Tired of dreaming of rest
You haven't changed...
You're still the same
May you rise as you fall
You were easy, you are forgotten
You are the ways of my mistakes
I catch the rainfall
Through the leaking roof
That you had left behind
You remind me
Of that leak in my soul
The rain falls
My friends call
Leaking rain on the phone
Take a day, plant some trees
May they shade you from me
May your children play beneath
Blank page was all the rage
Never meant to say anything
In bed, I was half dead
Tired of dreaming of rest
Got dressed drove the state line
Looking for you at the five and dime
But there I was, picking pieces up
You are a ghost
Of my indecision
No more little girl.
The nice thing about a blank page is just that, it's blank. You can start a whole new story if you really want to.

Who's That Girl
Ever look in the mirror and wonder who's that staring back from your reflection?
Today's song seems to be based around a lost relationship. While this may seem to be between the "girl" and her significant other... this is mostly true. My interpretation makes the significant other herself. Ever wonder how it is exactly that you got to this place. Ever wonder just who it is that you have become? More importantly, why? Ever wonder if there is a stranger living inside the shell that you have become?
"Who's That Girl" by Hilary Duff seems to point to these questions.
There were places we would go, at midnight,
There were secrets that nobody else would know,
There's a reason but I don't know why,
I don't know why,
I don't know why,
I thought they all belonged to me,
Who's that girl?
Where's she from?
No she can't be the one,
That you want,
That has stolen my world,
It's not real, it's not right,
It's my day, it's my night,
By the way,
Who's that girl, living my life?
Oh no, living my life.
Seems like everything's the same, around me,
When I look again and everything has changed,
I'm not dreaming so I don't know why,
I don't know why,
I don't know why,
She's everywhere I wanna be,
Who's that girl?
Where's she from?
No she can't be the one,
That you want,
That has stolen my world,
It's not real, it's not right,
It's my day, it's my night,
By the way,
Who's that girl living my life?
I'm the one who made you laugh,
Who made you feel,
Who made you sad,
I'm not sorry,
For what we did,
And who we were,
I'm not sorry,
I'm not her,
Who's that girl?
Where's she from?
No she can't be the one,
That you want,
That has stolen my world,
It's not real, it's not right,

Breathe
Well still no news on what's going on with my credit card, I'm simply reminding myself to breathe.
So... I'll add in my second Michelle Branch song for the week (and we're only on day two). "Breathe" says a lot about the idea of getting over it. So, I'm currently building my bridge.
i've been driving for an hour
just talking to the rain
you say i've been driving you crazy
and it's keeping you away
so just give me one good reason
tell me why i should stay
'cause i don't wanna waste another moment
in saying things we never meant to say
and i take it just a little bit
i hold my breath and count to ten
i've been waiting for a chance to let you in
if i just breathe
let it fill the space between
i'll know everything is alright
breathe
every little piece of me
you'll see
everything is alright
if i just breathe
well it's all so overrated
in not saying how you feel
so you end up watching chances fade
and wondering what's real
and i give you just a little time
i wonder if you realize i've been waiting 'til i see it in your eyes
if i just breathe
let it fill the space between
i'll know everything is alright
breathe
every little piece of me
you'll see
everything is alright
if i just breathe
so i whisper in the dark
hoping you'll hear me
do you hear me?
if i just breathe
let it fill the space between
i'll know everything is alright
breathe
every little piece of me
you'll see
everything is alright
if i just breathe
everything is alright if i just breathe
i've been driving for an hour
just talking to the rain
Love the start to the second verse, "it's so overrated..." I'd say that about worrying. It really is so overrated.
