I have no idea why this one came up today as it really is kind of depressive. But I guess we all have our moments, and well... we just have to get on with it.
Had a great weekend and only removed the nail polish (black, perhaps the source of today's tune) once I'd gotten to work this morning. I would complain that the weekend is just too short, only it's most likely as long as it needs to be and short enough to bring us back to reality before any real damage is done.
"Paint it Black" from the Rolling Stones is one of those classics that everyone knows (even if they don't know it). While I think that Within Temptation do a fantastic cover of this song, the original still rocks.
I see a red door and I want it, painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and they're all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens every day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and must have it painted black
Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts
It's not easy facin' up when your whole world is black
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the settin' sun
My love will laugh with me before the mornin' comes
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls go by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
Hmm, hmm, hmm,...
I wanna see it tainted, tainted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it tainted, tainted, tainted, tainted black
Yeah!
Hmm, hmm, hmm
Tainted? Nah... I rather like black.

Jacks Lament
Halloween is upon us and today's Beerday theme is Halloween. I've done Zombie, Vampire and now am right up to Mummy. Poor bed sheet got it... and I'm pretty well wrapped. The things we do to enjoy a few beers.
Today's tune is "Jacks Lament" from A Nightmare Before Christmas. Just longing for a change... But, already making Christmas plans!!! Whooo Hooooo....
There are few who deny
At what I do I am the best
For my talents are renound far and wide
When it comes to suprises
In the moonlit night
I excel without ever even trying
With the slightest little effort
Of my ghost-like charms
I have seen grown men give out a shriek
With the wave of my hand .
And a well placed moan
I have swept the very bravest off their feet
Yet year after year
It's the same routine
And I grow so weary
Of the sound of screams
And I JACK..THE PUMPKIN KING
Have grown so tired of the same old thing
Oh somewhere deep inside of these bones
An emptyness began to grow
There's something out there far from my home
A longing that I've ne-ver known
I'm the master of fright and a demon of light
And I'll scare you right out of your pants
To a guy in Kentucky, I'm Mister Unlucky
And I'm known throughout England and France
And since I am dead, I can take off my head
To recite Shakesperean quotations
No animal nor man can SCREAM like I can
With the fury of my re-ci-ta-tions
But who here would ever understand
That the Pumpkin King with the skeleton grin
Would tire of his crown, If they only understood
He'd give it all up, if he only could....
Oh theres an empty place in my bones
That calls out for something unknown
The fame and praise come year after year
Does nothing for these e-mpty tears....
Poor old Jack... then again, while doing his best he almost ruins Christmas before eventually saving it.

Ironic
Life as they say is what happens while we're making other plans. Oddly enough it has a way of working out (I reckon mostly because we have little choice but to make it do so).
"Ironic" by Alanis Morissette, takes me back a good few years to land far away... I guess things do work themselves out. Just wish I knew that... a long, long time ago.
An old man, turned 98
He won the lottery, and died the next day
It's a black fly in your chardonnay
It's a death row pardon, two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic?
Don't you think?
It's like rain, on your wedding day
It's a free ride, when you've already paid
It's the good advice, that you just didn't take
And who would've thought? It figures
Mr. Play-It-Safe, was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase, and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life, to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought, "Well isn't this nice?"
And isn't it ironic?
Don't you think?
It's like rain, on your wedding day
It's a free ride, when you've already paid
It's the good advice, that you just didn't take
And who would've thought? It figures
Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything's okay and everything's going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out
When you think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up in your face
A traffic jam, when you're already late
A "No smoking" sign, on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons, when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams, and then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic?
Don't you think?
A little too ironic?
Yeah I really do think
It's like rain, on your wedding day
It's a free ride, when you've already paid
It's the good advice, that you just didn't take
And who would've thought?
It figures
Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
And life has a funny, funny way, of helping you out
Helping you out
Helping you out? I dunno, but perhaps working out is a better way of putting things?

Monster Mash
Because Halloween is just around the corner I thought I'd just post this classic. Yup... we're ready for it on Friday (that's when the company has our dress up day and party).
This is a classic that everyone knows. If you don't know "Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett then find an illegal copy somewhere if needs be, somehow I don't think it would cause him to turn in his grave.
I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my monster from his slab began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise
He did the mash
He did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
He did the mash
It caught on in a flash
He did the mash
He did the monster mash
From my laboratory in the castle east
To the master bedroom where the vampires feast
The ghouls all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt from my electrodes
They did the mash
They did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
They did the mash
It caught on in a flash
They did the mash
They did the monster mash
The zombies were having fun
The party had just begun
The guests included Wolf Man
Dracula and his son
The scene was rockin', all were digging the sounds
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds
The coffin-bangers were about to arrive
With their vocal group, "The Crypt-Kicker Five"
They played the mash
They played the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
They played the mash
It caught on in a flash
They played the mash
They played the monster mash
Out from his coffin, Drac's voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
He opened the lid and shook his fist
And said, "Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?"
It's now the mash
It's now the monster mash
The monster mash
And it's a graveyard smash
It's now the mash
It's caught on in a flash
It's now the mash
It's now the monster mash
Now everything's cool, Drac's a part of the band
And my monster mash is the hit of the land
For you, the living, this mash was meant too
When you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you
Then you can mash
Then you can monster mash
The monster mash
And do my graveyard smash
Then you can mash
You'll catch on in a flash
Then you can mash
Then you can monster mash
Everybody mash...

Rooftops
I can't believe that I haven't posted this one yet. This has to be one of my happier tunes. "Rooftops" by Lostprophets while it may seem a little bleak from the start it's really a call to action.
When your time is done will you be able to stand on the rooftop and say you were there?
When our time is up
When our lives are done
Will we say we've had our fun?
Will we make a mark this time?
Will we always say we tried?
Standing on the rooftops
Everybody scream your heart out.
Standing on the rooftops
Everybody scream your heart out.
Standing on the rooftops
Everybody scream your heart out.
This is all we got now
Everybody scream your heart out.
All the love I've met
I have no regrets
If it all ends now, I'm set
Will we make a mark this time?
Will we always say we tried?
Standing on the rooftops
Everybody scream your heart out.
Standing on the rooftops
Everybody scream your heart out.
Standing on the rooftops
Everybody scream your heart out.
This is all we got now
Everybody scream your heart out.
Standing on the rooftops
(Wait until the bombs drop)
This is all we got now
(Scream until your heart stops)
Never gonna regret
(Watching every sunset)
We'll listen to your heartbeat
(All the love that we found)
Standing on the rooftops
(Wait until the bombs drop)
This is all we got now
(Scream until your heart stops)
Never gonna regret
(Watching every sunset)
We'll listen to your heartbeat
(All the love that we found)
Scream your heart out
Scream your heart out
Scream your heart out
Scream your
Standing on the rooftops

Meet Me On The Equinox
A gentle start to a Monday, this time from Death Cab For Cutie. Okay, I know, these vampires sparkled in the sun... I mean WTF? Anyhow, I just enjoy the song.
"Meet Me on the Equinox" is about taking everything, going that bit further.
Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me halfway
The sun is perched at its highest peak
In the middle of the day
Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
As we walk in the dimming light
Oh, darling understand
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
Meet me on your best behavior
Meet me at your worst
For there will be no stone unturned
Or bubble left to burst
Let me lay beside you, darling
Let me be your man
And let our bodies intertwine
But always understand
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything, everything ends
A window
An opened tomb
The sun crawls across your bedroom
A halo
A waning moon
Your last breaths moving through you
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything, everything,
everything, everything, everything ends
Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me halfway
When the sun is perched at its highest peak
In the middle of the day
Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
As we walk in the dimming light
Oh, darling understand
That everything, everything ends
But it's my nature to argue, and not everything ends.

Changes
2010 could easily go down as the most difficult of my life so far... so many things that were not foreseen, so many things that just didn't go my way. I could sit and wallow... or turn it around and declare 2010 as the year of change. For better or worse? Well, that's all going to depend on what I choose to do next.
"Changes" by Ozzy is one of the more emotional pieces from the man (surprising many people with the fact that often his stuff is). 2010 the year of change not all easy, so won't call it a good year. But, everything that will follow should be.
I feel unhappy
I feel so sad
I'v lost the best friend
That I ever had
She was my woman
I loved her so
But it's too late now
I've let her go
I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes
We shared the years
We shared each day
In love together
We found a way
But soon the world
Had its evil way
My heart was blinded
Love went astray
I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes
It took so long
To realize
That I can still hear
Her last goodbyes
Now all my days
Are filled with tears
Wish I could go back
And change these years
I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes
I don't want to go back and change anything, perhaps I'd try to calm myself a little better.
