Teenage Dirtbag

Todays tune is inspired by the movie Loser. Funny enough it's amazing how many things we simply don't pickup on at times.

"Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus takes me back a good few years or to last week depending on how you look at it. But heck, I'm still waiting for my tickets to Iron Maiden, so if there are any girls out there with said tickets, call me up. I'll not say maybe.

Her name is Noelle
I have a dream about her
she rings my bell
I got gym class in half an hour

Oh how she rocks
In Keds and tube socks
But she doesn't know who I am
And she doesn't give a damn about me

Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
Yeah I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
Listen to Iron Maiden baby... with me
Ooohoooooo

Her boyfriend's a dick
he brings a gun to school
And he'd simply kick
My ass if he knew the truth
He lives on my block
and He drives an IROC
But he doesn't know who I am
And he doesn't give a damn about me...

Cause i'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
Yeah i'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
listen to Iron Maiden baby with me
Ooohoooooo

Oh yeah, dirtbag
No, she doesn't know what she's missing.
Oh yeah, dirtbag
No, she doesn't know what she's missing.

Man I feel like mold
It's prom night and I am lonely.
Lo and behold
she's walking over to me.

This must be fake
My lip starts to shake
How does she know who I am?
And why does she give a damn about me?

I've got two tickets to Iron Maiden baby
Come with me Friday - don't say maybe.
I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
like you
Ooohoo Hoo Hooooooo

Oh yeah, dirtbag
No, she doesn't know what she's missing.
Oh yeah, dirtbag
No, she doesn't know what she's missing...YYYYEEEEEEEEEHHHHHH

Iron Maiden, Marilyn, Ozzy or Alice... give me a shout!

Promises

Another song from The Cranberries makes todays Tune. "Promises" was an interesting music video featuring a witch. Somehow that makes a lot more sense to me than many may realise.

I guess we all end up with what we deserve in the end.

You'd better believe I'm coming
You'd better believe what I say
You'd better hold on to your promises
Because you bet you'll get what you deserve.

She's going to leave him over
She's going take her love away
So much for your eternal vows, well
It does not matter anyway.

Why can't you stay
Here a while
Stay here awhile
Stay with me.

Oh oh oh oh oh oh
All the promises we made
Promises we made
All the meaningless and empty words I broke
Broke broooke

Oh oh oh oh oh
All the promises we broke
Promises we broke
All the meaningless and empty words I spoke
Spoke spooooke

What of all the things that you taught me
What of all the things that you'd say
What of all your prophetic preaching
You're just throwing it all away

Maybe we should burn the house down
Have ourselves another fight
Leave the cobwebs in the closet
'Cause tearing them out is just not right

Why can't you stay
Here awhile
Stay here awhile
Stay with me

Oh oh oh oh oh
All the promises we made
Promises we made
All the meaningless and empty words I prayed
Prayed praaaayed

Oh oh oh oh oh
All the promises we broke
Promises we broke
All the meaningless and empty words I spoke
Spoke Spooooke

Oh oh oh oh oh
All the promises we made
Promises we made
All the meaningless and empty words I prayed
Prayed praaaayed

Oh oh oh oh oh
All the promises we broke
Promises we broke
All the meaningless and empty words I spoke
Spoke Spooooke

Oh hey oh hey oh hey ...

Words can be pretty hollow if you don't give them any meaning. A classic case of actions speak louder than words.

Zombie

In the fashion of taking 2011 and making it mine today's tune "Zombie" stands as an example of what I will not let happen.

For the most part I just wasn't getting this one for a long, long time. Then suddenly it just clicked. After constantly being broken down (wronged) the character in this song eventually loses touch with reality, all feeling and all emotion. Just going through the motions. Kinda sad really because after all, there's more to life than just being there or simply breathing. You have to participate.

Another great track from The Pretty Reckless that reminds me that often others can turn you into that zombie.

I'm not listening to you
I am wandering right through existance
With no purpose and no drive
'Cause in the end we're all alive, alive

Two thousand years I've been awake
Waiting for the day to shake

To all of you who've wronged me
I am, I am a zombie
Again, again you want me to fall on my head
I am, I am, I am a zombie
How low, how low, how low will you push me
To go, to go, to go, before I lay, lay down dead

Blow the smoke right off the tube
Kiss my gentle burning bruise
I'm lost in time
And to all the people left behind
You are walking dumb and blind, blind

And two thousand years I've been awake
Waiting for the day to shake

Dear all of you who've wronged me
I am, I am a zombie
Again, again you want me to fall on my head
I am, I am, I am a zombie
How low, how low, how low will you push me
To go, to go, to go, before I lay, lay down dead
Oh dead, Oh dead, Oh dead

To all of you who've wronged me
I am, I am a zombie
Again, again you want me to fall on my head

I am I am I am a zombie
How low, how low, how low will you push me
To go, to go, to go, before I lie down dead

Hit me, break me, push me down or wrong me but I'll never be that zombie.

Search For The Hero

This is an old track from the M People. If you remember them that is.

"Search For The Hero" was a terrible music video (then again, weren't they all over that time?) but one that's stuck with me over the years. No doubt this was somehow an inspiration for one of Mariah Carey's hits, "Hero".

It really is a case of having to dig deep, look well within ourselves, be honest and ultimately be strong. How many people manage to do this? How many are really brave enough to do so. After all life is really more than just breathing.

Sometimes the river flows but nothing breathes.
A train arrives but never leaves.
It's a shame.
Oh life - like love that's walked out of the door
of being rich or being poor.
Such a shame.
But it's then, then that faith arrives
to make you feel at least alive.
And that's why you should keep on aiming high,
just seek yourself and you will shine.

You've go to search for the hero inside yourself,
search for the secrets you hide.
Search for the hero inside yourself
until you find the key to your life.

In this life, long and hard though it may seem,
live it as you'd live a dream.
Aim so high.
Just keep the flame of truth burning bright.
The missing treasure you must find
because you and only you alone
can build a bridge across the stream.
Weave your spell in life's rich tapestry -
your passport to a field supreme.

You've go to search for the hero inside yourself,
search for the secrets you hide.
Search for the hero inside yourself
until you find the key to your life.

Search inside yourself. (You've got to search)
Search inside yourself. (You've got to search)

You've go to search for the hero inside yourself,
search for the secrets you hide.
Search for the hero inside yourself
until you find the key to your life.

You've go to search for the hero inside yourself,
search for the secrets you hide.
Search for the hero inside yourself
until you find the key to your life.

You've got to.
(Search inside yourself)
You've got to.
(Search inside yourself)
You've got to.
(Search inside yourself)

Search.

Just seek yourself and you will shine (like the star that you are).

Anything But Ordinary

Ever wonder if you'd be better off being one of the ordinary folk going from day to day?

Can't say I do. Ordinary scares the heck out of me. As my brother pointed out, "You all laugh at me because I'm different, but I laugh at you all because you're all the same." Real question is why try to fit in when you were made to stand out?

Today's song by Avril Lavigne, "Anything But Ordinary" sums up exactly how I feel about the matter. Life is far too short to just breathe.

Sometimes I get so weird
I even freak myself out
I laugh myself to sleep
It's my lullaby
Sometimes I drive so fast
Just to feel the danger
I wanna scream
It makes me feel alive

Is it enough to love?
Is it enough to breathe?
Somebody rip my heart out
And leave me here to bleed
Is it enough to die?
Somebody save my life
I'd rather be anything but ordinary please

To walk within the lines
Would make my life so boring
I want to know that I
Have been to the extreme
So knock me off my feet
Come on now give it to me
Anything to make me feel alive

Is it enough to love?
Is it enough to breathe?
Somebody rip my heart out
And leave me here to bleed
Is it enough to die?
Somebody save my life
I'd rather be anything but ordinary please.
I'd rather be anything but ordinary please.

Let down your defences
Use no common sense
If you look you will see
that this world is a beautiful
accident, turbulent, succulent
opulent permanent, no way
I wanna taste it
Don't wanna waste it away

Sometimes I get so weird
I even freak myself out
I laugh myself to sleep
It's my lullaby

Is it enough?
Is it enough?
Is it enough to breathe?
Somebody rip my heart out
And leave me here to bleed
Is it enough to die?
Somebody save my life
I'd rather be anything but ordinary please

Is it enough?
Is it enough to die?
Somebody save my life
I'd rather be anything but ordinary please.
oh
I'd rather be anything but ordinary please.

I don't keep within the lines, mostly because I refuse to see them.

Going to California

Todays tune is going to be a repeat of one of my favourites. "Going to California" by Led Zeppelin is my favourite from the band and tells a tale of taking a chance to find that girl out there.

2010 was a long year that involved way too many changes (one change is bad enough for me as a terrible creature of habit). But what this has left is a start to 2011 that will no doubt include reinvention and a lot of fresh new starts. California... or something else.

Spent my days with a woman unkind, Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine.
Made up my mind to make a new start, Going To California with an aching in my heart.
Someone told me there's a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.
Took my chances on a big jet plane, never let them tell you that they'all are the same.
The sea was red and the sky was grey,I wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today.
The mountains and the canyons started to tremble and shake
as the children of the sun began to awake.

Seems that the wrath of the Gods
Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow;
I think I might be sinking.
Throw me a line if I reach it in time
I'll meet you up there where the path
Runs straight and high.

To find a queen without a king,
They say she plays guitar and cries and sings... la la la la
Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn
Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born.
Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams,
Telling myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.

Life is far too short to not do crazy things, just wonder when next I should jump on one of those big jet planes?

New Years Day

Well, a few days late, but got to start the year off with this one from U2.

New years day... was quiet, but not uneventful.

Well, here's to a new year. To 2011 let it be better than 2010!

Yeah...
All is quiet on New Year's Day
A world in white gets underway
I want to be with you
Be with you night and day
Nothing changes on New Year's Day
On New Year's Day

I will be with you again
I will be with you again

Under a blood red sky
A crowd has gathered in black and white
Arms entwined, the chosen few
The newspapers says, says
Say it's true it's true...
And we can break through
Though torn in two
We can be one

I...I will begin again
I...I will begin again

Oh...
Maybe the time is right
Oh...maybe tonight...

I will be with you again
I will be with you again

And so we're told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
Though I want to be with you
Be with you night and day
Nothing changes
On New Year's Day

Nothing changes... but then again nothing ever stays the same.
