Well, I'm back. Been off for a week and just taking it easy. Broke all possible forms of routine - it was fantastic.
I'm in a pretty happy space at the moment (even if I do have one sick kitty - but he'll be fine) and I can't believe that I've never added a Monty Python song! So in perfect contrast to the usual Monday today's tune is "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from The Life of Brian. Possibly the most blasphemous movie of all time? Dunno, I thought it was hysterical. That said and done, this is is sung/played... (performed?) as the movie ends.
Cheer up, Brian. You know what they say.
Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad.
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle,
Don't grumble, give a wistle!
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
And...
(the music fades into the song)
...always look on the bright side of life!
(whistle)
Always look on the light side of life...
If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten!
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing,
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps,
Just purse your lips and whistle -- that's the thing!
And... always look on the bright side of life...
(whistle)
Come on!
(other start to join in)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(whistle)
For life is quite absurd,
And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow!
Forget about your sin -- give the audience a grin,
Enjoy it -- it's the last chance anyhow!
So always look on the bright side of death!
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true,
You'll see it's all a show,
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you!
And always look on the bright side of life
(whistle)
Always look on the bright side of life
(whistle)
Sometimes, just maybe if we stop long enough and have a good look around we might just get the joke? Always look on the bright side... and don't forget to "laugh and smile and dance and sing".

Dare To Be Stupid
Well today is Beerday in the office. This month we've decided to pick the theme "Mad Hatters Tea Party" which really suites many of us.
This year I've stated time and again that life is simply too short to NOT do stupid things. So, today's tune from Weird Al is "Dare To Be Stupid". The first time I heard this was on the original Transformers movie (you know, that animated one from the '80s).
Put down that chainsaw and listen to me
It's time for us to join in the fight
It's time to let your babies grow up to be cowboys
It's time to let the bedbugs bite
You better put all your eggs in one basket
You better count your chickens before they hatch
You better sell some wine before it's time
You better find yourself an itch to scratch
You better squeeze all the Charmin you can while Mr. Wipple's not around
Stick your head in the microwave and get yourself a tan
Talk with your mouth full
Bite the hand that feeds you
Bite off more than you can chew
What can you do
Dare to be stupid
Take some wooden nickles
Look for Mr. Goodbar
Get your mojo working now
I'll show you how
You can dare to be stupid
You can turn the other cheek
You can just give up the ship
You can eat a bunch of sushi then forget to leave a tip
Dare to be stupid
Come on and dare to be stupid
It's so easy to do
Dare to be stupid
We're all waiting for you
Let's go
It's time to make a mountain out of a molehill
So can I have a volunteer
There's no more time for crying over spilled milk
Now it's time for crying in your beer
Settle down, raise a family, join the PTA
Buy some sensible shoes and a Chevrolet
And party 'till you're broke and they drag you away
It's OK, you can dare to be stupid
It's like spitting on a fish
It's like barking up a tree
It's like I said you gotta buy one if you wanna get one free
Dare to be stupid (yes)
Why don't you dare to be stupid
It's so easy to do
Dare to be stupid
We're all waiting for you
Dare to be stupid
Burn your candle at both ends
Look a gift horse in the mouth
Mashed potatos can be your friends
You can be a coffee achiever
You can sit around the house and watch Leave It To Beaver
The future's up to you
So what you gonna do
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
What did I say
Dare to be stupid
Tell me, what did I say
Dare to be stupid
It's alright
Dare to be stupid
We can be stupid all night
Dare to be stupid
Come on, join the crowd
Dare to be stupid
Shout it out loud
Dare to be stupid
I can't hear you
Dare to be stupid
OK, I can hear you now
Dare to be stupid
Let's go, Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid....
(fadeout)
I'm daring to be stupid, I'll dare you to do the same.

Hold It Against Me
Sometimes people wonder why I enjoy Britney so...
Well honestly if you don't get the full on cheese factor (we're talking Gorgonzola proportions here) after listening to the latest track, "Hold It Against Me", then you're never going go get it.
So here we go... Today's tune is of a super cheesy magnitude. Gotta love it!
Hey, over there
Please forgive me
If I'm comin' on too strong
Hate to stare but you're winnin'
And they're playing my favourite song
So come here a little closer
Wanna whisper in you ear
Make it clear little question
Wanna know just how you feel
If I said my heart was beating loud
If we could escape the crowd somehow
If I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me?
'Cause you feel like paradise
And I need a vacation tonight
So if I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me?
Hey, you might think that I'm crazy
But you know I'm just your type
I might be a little hazy
But you just cannot deny
There's a spark in between us
When we're dancin' on the floor
I want more wanna see it
So I'm askin' you tonight
If I said my heart was beating loud
If we could escape the crowd somehow
If I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me?
'Cause you feel like paradise
And I need a vacation tonight
So if I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me?
If I said I want your body
Would you hold it against me?
Give me something good
Don't wanna wait I want it now
Pop it like a hood
And show me how you work it out
Alright
If I said my heart was beating loud
If I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me?
If I said my heart was beating loud
We could escape the crowd somehow
If I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me?
'Cause you feel like paradise
And I need a vacation tonight
So if I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me?
I've never actually used that line... think I should try it some time.

Just Tonight
Weeeeeeeell...
This is an interesting one and one of my current favourites. Actually that may in part be because it's the first song I've been able to play completely on my acoustic guitar from start to finish. That aside, I think it kinda found me more than the other way round.
"Just Tonight", another song from The Pretty Reckless describes far too many people for my liking. I think in many ways it might just describe me in ways I'd rather not see. Does anyone ever really see who you really are? Do you ever really know who they are? I guess those questions pale in comparison to the question, "Do you really want to?" Isn't just so much easier to see or believe what we want to... or worse yet to offer that which we believe is wanted rather than who we really are. Ultimately this could go round and round in circles.
Here we are and I can think from all the pills
Hey, start the car and take me home
Here we are and you're too drunk to hear a word I say
Start the car and take me home
Just tonight I will stay
And we'll throw it all away
When the light hits your eyes
It's telling me I'm right
And if I, I am through
It's all because of you
Just tonight
But here I am and I can't seem to see straight
But I'm too numb to feel right now
And here I am watching the clock that's ticking away my time
I'm too numb to feel right now
Just tonight I will stay
And we'll throw it all away
When the light hits your eyes
It's telling me I'm right
And if I, I am through
It's all because of you
Just tonight
Just Tonight
Do you understand who I am
Do you wanna know
Can you really see through me now
I am 'bout to go
But just tonight I won't leave
I'll lie and you'll believe
Just tonight I will see
It's all because of me
Just tonight I will stay
And we'll throw it all away
When the light hits your eyes
It's telling me I'm right
And if I, I am through
It's all because of you
Just tonight
It's all because of you
Just tonight
It's all because of you
Just tonight
It's all because of you
Just tonight
It's all because of you
Just tonight
Maybe we just settle for "just tonight" far too often that eventually it becomes the next and so on? Are we just settling a lie to oneself has to be the most despicable.

Freak On a Leash
Ever feel like things don't add up? Ever feel like something's holding you back (whether you want it to or not)?
"Freak on a Leash" by Korn, featuring Amy Lee of Evanescence is an interesting adaptation of quite a heavy song. This was played live on an MTV unplugged session if I'm not mistaken.
Not all that we lose can be seen. More often than not it is the scars that we can't show that take the longest to heal and are by far the most ugly.
Something takes a part of me
Something lost and never seen
Everytime I start to believe
Something's raped and taken from me... from me
Life's gotta always be messing with me.(You wanna see the light?)
Can't they chill and let me be free? (So do I)
Can't I take away all this pain. (You wanna see the light?)
I try to every night
All in vain... in vain.
Sometimes I cannot take this place
Sometimes it's my life I can't taste
Sometimes I cannot feel my face
You'll never see me fall from grace
Something takes a part of me.
You and I were meant to be.
A cheap...for me to lay.
Something takes a part of me.
Feeling like a freak on a leash. (You wanna see the light ?)
Feeling like I have no release. (So do I...)
How many times have I felt diseased? (You wanna see the light ?)
Nothing in my life is free... is free.
Sometimes I cannot take this place.
Sometimes it's my life I can't taste.
Sometimes I cannot feel my face.
You'll never see me fall from grace.
Something takes a part of me.
You and I were meant to be.
A cheap...for me to lay.
Something takes a part of me.
ooooooo oooooooo (Go!)
Something takes a part of me.
You and I were meant to be.
A cheap fuck for me to lay.
Something takes a part of me.
Part of me
Part of me
Part of me
Think I'm always going to be a freak, the real issue is trying to break from that leash. Take back that which has been taken.

Hello (Turn Your Radio On)
Well not sure where this one came from... a round about way no doubt, but trying to mix it up a bit too. So today's song is quite a bit older than many of my usual posts.
"Hello (Turn Your Radio On)" by Shakespears Sister is about as old as my living memory (well when thinking of music).
This becomes a real blast from the past and in many ways I'm left wondering if it wasn't a few of these songs that wrote themselves into my mind at some kind of level? After all, you can't have this much insanity make any sense, can you?
woke up this morning and the streets were full of cars
all bright and shiny like they'd just arrived from mars
and as i stumbled through last nights drunken debris
the paperboy screamed out the headlines in the street
another war and now the pound is looking weak
and tell me have you read about the latest freak?
we're bingo numbers and our names are obsolete
why do i feel bitter when i should be feeling sweet
hello, hello turn your radio on
is there anybody out there?
help me sing my song
la la la life is a strange thing
just when you think you learned how to use it
it's gone
woke up this morning and my head was in a daze
a brave new world has dawned upon the human race
where words are meaning less and everything's surreal
gonna have to reach my friends to find out how i feel
and if i taste the honey is it really sweet
and do i eat it with my hands or with my feet?
does anybody really listen when i speak
or will i have to say it all again next week
hello, hello turn your radio on
is there anybody out there?
help me sing my song
hello, hello turn your radio on
is there anybody out there?
tell me what went wrong
la la la life is a strange thing
life is a strange thing
hello, hello turn your radio on
is there anybody out there?
help me sing my song
la la la life is a strange thing
just when you think you learned how to use it
it's gone.
Seems kinda morose on a Monday morning, but really more of a warning... sing out before it's gone.

Bohemian Rhapsody
It's Friday... finally and I'm going back to something that makes me smile. And lets face it, who doesn't like The Muppets? So today's tune is very light hearted and simply makes me happy. The Muppets do "Bohemian Rhapsody". You can catch the music video here, it's well worth watching.
Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality
Open your eyes, Look up to the skies and see,
I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy,
Because I’m easy come, easy go, Little high, little low,
Any way the wind blows doesn’t really matter to me, to me
Mama.. Mama
(Alot of mama words)
Mama,
I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very fright’ning me
(Galileo) Galileo (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo figaro
Magnifico I’m just a poor boy and nobody loves me
He’s just a poor boy from a poor family,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go
Na Na Na! No, we will not let you go
(Let him go!) Na Na Na We will not let you go
(Let him go!) Na Na Na We will not let you go
(Let me go) Will not let you go
(Let me go) Will not let you go (Let me go) Ah
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
(Oh mama mia, mama mia) Mama mia, let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me
So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh, baby, can’t do this to me, baby,
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here
Nothing really matters, Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters,
Nothing really matters to me
Any way the wind blows
Animal is still my hero!
You don't mess with Animal. He eats glass, man. - Frank Oz
