The longer I keep posting the more amazed I am that I've missed certain songs out over time. Then again, isn't that the real beauty of this whole blog? To constantly be reminded of the good times... the better times too?
"A Spaceman Came Travelling" by Chris de Burgh (deemed evil by some) is one of those songs I think I've always known. Funny how some things seem older than your memory somehow. Knowing this one quite well has served me well with this being one of those signature songs I end up singing at karaoke more often than not.
Imagine a spaceman, visitor from far away bringing a simple message of peace? Seems bizarre that anything would travel that far to bring a message like that when you look around and see the devastation that's currently taking place all over. Then again, don't you think that if you were to put in that much time and effort in a journey like that, that this might be the only message to bring?
A spaceman came travelling on his ship from afar,
'Twas light years of time since his mission did start,
And over a village he halted his craft,
And it hung in the sky like a star, just like a star...
He followed a light and came down to a shed,
Where a mother and child were lying there on a bed,
A bright light of silver shone round his head,
And he had the face of an angle, and they were afraid...
Then the stranger spoke, he said "Do not fear,
I come from a planet a long way from here,
And I bring a message for mankind to hear,"
And suddenly the sweetest music filled the air...
And it went La La...
Peace and goodwill to all men, and love for the child...
This lovely music went trembling through the ground,
And many were wakened on hearing that sound,
And travellers on the road, the village they found,
By the light of that ship in the sky, which shone all round...
And just before dawn at the paling of the sky,
The stranger returned and said "Now I must fly,
When two thousand years of your time has gone by,
This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry..."
And it went La La ... This song will begin once again
To a baby's cry...
And it goes La La... Peace and goodwill to all men, and
Love for the child...
Oh the whole world is waiting, waiting to hear the song again,
There are thousands standing on the edge of the world,
And a star is moving somewhere, the time is nearly here,
This song will begin once again, to a baby's cry...
Peace and goodwill to all men indeed...

Glorious
Here's another blast from the past. I can't even begin to start with just how random this was when it cropped up this morning on my drive in to work. Then again, the sunrise was pretty glorious.
"Glorious" by Andreas Johnson turns the usual peasant to princess story to the other way round. In many respects it's also like "Teenage Dirtbag" where the story works in reverse, or simply "She Likes Me For Me" where things can just be.
Which all really leaves me wondering... But what ever will be, simply will be.
Here she comes with the master plan
And I'm starting to lose control
Here she comes to this trash of man
And I'm ready to taste it all... when
She's bringing me in
Checking me out
Making me glorious
here she comes like a brand new day
belly dancing across the room
in the moonlight I watch her sway
to her rhythm I'll go as groom... with grace... tonight...
She's bringing me in
Checking me out
Making me glorious... Well
here she comes
She's bringing me in
Checking me out
Making me glorious
She's bringing me in
Turning me on
Making me glorious
A brand new day... pretty glorious if you ask me.

Let it Rain
Well I'm going to say that winter must be officially here. Okay, I'm calling it winter, but while it is raining (in a summer rainfall area) it's still really just autumn.
Today's tune, "Let it Rain" is by The Awakening may seem another morbid choice to start the weekend. Who said that the whole Goth scene was so somber?
I was ultimately drawn to the lines:
I've had to go and leave the doubtful tears behind
Because the glow, well I could see it fading
I'll read that as a case of having to move on or you'll simply miss out on what could be. How often are we held back by tears, self doubt or just fear only to realise staring at nothing more than the last of the embers that it's just too light, the fire is gone?
I need to know all the truths behind the lies
I need to show the guilt that is inside me
Try to grow, a little sun and rain to die
Try to grow, apart from this escaping
Actions for the words
Linear touche
Actions killed the first
Border on insane
So let it rain
Little child with war in her eyes
Little false summation
Little war taken for a slide
Time for lost salvation
I've had to go and leave the doubtful tears behind
Because the glow, well I could see it fading
Actions for the words
Linear touche
Actions killed the first
Border on insane
So let it rain...
Little child with war in her eyes
Little false summation
Little war taken for a slide
Time for lost salvation
Oh clouds are overhead
Oh sentimental shade
Oh why am I scared
Let it rain.....
I'll say let the rain fall down and wash away sanity. Let the rain fall down because I'll not lose the light to the distance.

Lithium
Strangely it seems I've never added a Nirvana track to "My Theme Tune". While I've never been a Nirvana fan, I've pretty much always had one of their tracks on my play list for as long as I can remember. Dave Grohl went on to front the Foo Fighters despite being an awesome drummer he now plays lead in that band.
While I've never been a big Nirvana fan, I always enjoyed Kurt's frank approach to most points made. He never claimed to be a anything more than trying to figure "it" out. Wonder if he ever reached a conclusion.
All that said and done, today's tune, "Lithium" while is a sad and sombre track really, I use it as a benchmark of sorts. I don't do any of those things (well, 'cept the bit about the friends in my head bit). I'm not trying to do or be anything that is well, anything but me. Ultimately I am pretty happy... for a lot of reasons. But today I'm mostly happy 'cos I've got me.
I'm so happy. Cause today I found my friends.
They're in my head. I'm so ugly. But that's ok.
'Cause so are you. We've broke our mirrors.
Sunday morning. Is everyday for all I care.
And I'm not scared. Light my candles. In a daze cause I've found god.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah.....
I'm so lonely. And that's ok. (alt: 'cause today )
I shaved my head. And I'm not sad, and just maybe
I'm to blame for all I've heard. And I'm not sure.
I'm so excited. I can't wait to meet you there.
And I don't care. I'm so horny. But that's ok. My will is good.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah.....
I like it. I'm not gonna crack.
I miss you. I'm not gonna crack.
I love you.I'm not gonna crack.
I killed you. I'm not gonna crack.
I like it. I'm not gonna crack.
I miss you. I'm not gonna crack.
I love you.I'm not gonna crack.

Hope
Hope is one of those things that spring eternally. I guess to give up hope is simply to give up. If Sheryl Crow is indeed correct, if every day is a winding road to getting closer to feeling fine, then hope keeps us on that road perhaps helping us at those cross roads.
Today's tune, simply title "Hope" by Alien Ant Farm is a good start. For crossroads that present themselves. While the tone and theme to this one is quite sad, possibly even a little bitter I guess I can relate quite well.
Hope is the thing I'm feeling today.
Walking a mile out of the way,
I still might make it though.
Turn on your street
And See a car.
Finding our home a house of pain
See in an instant
things can change
And never feel the same.
Turn on your street and see a car.
One where I thought mine should be parked.
If that's what you demand,
Then that's what I'll deliver..
If that's what you demand,
Then that's just what I'll give you.
Trenches dug out the side of the road.
(Trenches dug out the side of the road)
Remember the smell of earth in piles.
(Remember the smell of earth in piles)
And there was nothing else to do,
And there was nothing left to do
But walk for miles.
So I walked for miles.
If that's what you demand,
Then that's what I'll deliver.
If that's what you demand,
Then that's just what I'll give you.
Turn on your street
And see a car.
Someone I thought was a friend
to me has ripped a hole in my life.
Someone I thought was a friend
to me has gone and married my wife.
If that's what you demand,
Then that's what I'll deliver.
If that's what you demand,
Then that's just what I'll give you.
If that's your master plan,
Then I wish you two the best together.
If that's what you demand now,
Then that's just what i'll give you.
But... "Hope is the thing I'm feeling today."

Journey to the Past
Well everyone knows that I love bad B Grade Horror movies and my animated movies. Last night I got to watching Anastasia again. This has to be one of those movies you love right away and then each character just grows even more on you. Who doesn't just love Bartok, even though it's just a henchman at the end of the day.
Today's tune is "Journey to the Past" performed in the movie by Liz Callaway is a reminder that often to go forward we have to go backwards. To those in software development you'll understand the concept perfectly, just subversion it. Go back to a branch that you knew was pristine and start development all over again. While we can't quite subversion life, we can reset things to a place, level we once loved and start again... it's never too late.
Heart, don't fail me now!
Courage, don't desert me!
Don't turn back now that we're here
People always say
Life is full of choices
No one ever mentions fear!
Or how a road can seem so long
How the world can seem so vast
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
On this journey...to the past
Somewhere down this road
I know someone's waiting
Years of dreams just can't be wrong
Arms will open wide
I'll be safe and wanted
Fin'lly home where I belong
Well, starting here, my life begins
Starting now, I'm learning fast
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
On this journey...to the past
Heart don't fail me now!
Courage don't desert me!
Home, Love, Family
There was once a time
I must have had them too
Home, Love, Family
I will never be complete
Until I find you...
One step at a time,
One hope, then another
Who knows where this road may go
Back to who I was
On to find my future,
Things my heart still needs to know
Yes, let this be a sign!
Let this road be mine!
Let it lead me to my past
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
To bring me home...
At last!
At last!
Courage see me through
Heart I'm trusting you
yea...
Guess the trick is to play it smart, a little heart and some courage... you'll find your way. Now where have I seen those characters before? ;)

Make a Move
I've spent a good deal of time simply waiting for things to happen. Or perhaps waiting for them not to happen? No news is good news and all that.
And then she arrived. I don't know what's really changed, but suddenly I've now realised that I can't sit and wait anymore. Today's song, "Make a Move" from the Lostprophets pretty much highlights that fact. After all, we're only getting older and that is something we can't get back.
So are we lost or do we know
Which direction we should go
Sit around and wait for someone to take our hands and lead the way
Cause every day we're getting older
And every day we all get colder
We're sick of waiting for our answers
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up,
Yeah I'm so tired of waiting, waiting for us to
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up,
Yeah I'm so sick of waiting, for us to make a move
Are we meant to take the pain
Should we sit around and wait
Are we being saved
Or was I another lie you made to make us hate
Cause every day we're getting older
And every day we all get colder
We're sick of waiting for our answers
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up,
Yeah I'm so tired of waiting, waiting for us to
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up,
Yeah I'm so sick of waiting, for us to make a move
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up,
And we will never lose
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up,
it's time to make a move
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up,
And we will never lose
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up,
it's time to make a... move!
It's not enough
To let it run
Where's the truth
It's all wrong
We're sick of waiting for our answers...
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up,
Yeah I'm so tired of waiting, waiting for us to
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up,
Yeah I'm so sick of waiting, for us to make a move
Wake up, wake up, wake up
And we will never lose

Wake up, wake up, wake up
