Yoda

Well November is on its way out and figured I'd do my best to include as many Christmas themed tunes next month.

I'll end November then with an amusing track, I'll dedicate this one to Jodene and Greg. Think they'll see the funny side of this one.

"Yoda" by Weird Al is a parody of Lola by the Kinks. Although I figured the original is amusing in its own right (friends don't let friends... oh heck it's good for a laugh).

I met him in a swamp down in Dagobah
Where it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated soda
S-O-D-A, soda

I saw the little runt sitting there on a log
I asked him for his name and in a raspy voice he said "Yoda"
Y-O-D-A, Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I've been around, but I ain't never seen
A guy who looks like a muppet, but he's wrinkled and green
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I'm not dumb, but I can't understand
How he can lift me in the air just by raising his hand
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I left home just a week before
And I've never ever been a Jedi before
But Obi Wan, he set me straight, of course
He said, "Go to Yoda and he'll show you the Force"

Well I'm not the kind that would argue with Ben
So it looks like I'm gonna start all over again
With my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

So I used the Force
I picked up a box
I lifted some rocks
While I stood on my head
but, I won't forget what Yoda said

He said, "Luke, stay away from the darker side
And if you start to go astray, let the Force be your guide"
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

"I know Darth Vader's really got you annoyed
But remember, if you kill him, then you'll be unemployed"
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I heard my friends really got in a mess
So I'm gonna have to leave Yoda I guess
But I know that I'll be coming back some day
I'll be playing this part 'till I'm old and gray

The long-term contract I had to sign
Says I'll be making these movies till the end of time
Oh with my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Just don't forget what Yoda said... :)

Mentally Yours

Well it's been some time since I posted anything from Savatage so here we go.

"Mentally Yours" is lead into the final 3 tracks of Gutter Ballet which are all related. This is a dip into insanity, the suffering or the bliss? In many ways I think this should be my default theme tune (well this or Crazy Train).

Again I'm a real sucker for the piano and the intro makes for stark contrast to the body of this particular song. The arrangement really fits the content of this one.

Timmy went out to play
With the friends he made
Why did they send him away
He drove his mommy mad
His daddy ran
They didn't understand
Now he gazes his cold nights through
Reliving all the things he would do
If only he had another chance
If that was all he had

His tension life
He beats the wife
Douse the cat with gasoline
Gotta try
The other side
He just has to get away
That's when it all began
Timmy lost his mind
Was just a matter of time
Before he went crazy

Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours

Running wild
Cause that's his style
Can't be held by any cage
Crossed the line
The final time
Tonight he takes his stage
That's when it all began
Timmy lost his mind
No one cried
When Timmy died

Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours

Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
I am mentally yours
Mentally yours
Mentally yours
Mentally yours
Mentally
Mentally
Mentally
Yours

Suffer insanity. Nope, I'm still enjoying it.

The Saga Begins

Well it's Friday and Beerday all in one. So, time for something a little more light hearted.

Weird Al does his parody of American Pie as well as Star Wars (Episode I: The Phantom Menace) with, "The Saga Begins". It pretty much tells the story of the movie and in a much shorter time than the original American Pie by Don McClean.

As a massive Star Wars fan, I just love it!

A long, long time ago
In a galaxy far away
Naboo was under an attack
And I thought me and Qui-Gon Jinn
Could talk the federation in
To maybe cutting them a little slack
But their response, it didn't thrill us
They locked the doors and tried to kill us
We escaped from that gas
Then met Jar Jar and Boss Nass
We took a bongo from the scene
And we went to Theed to see the Queen
We all wound up on Tatooine
That's where we found this boy

Oh
My my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
He left his home
And kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin'
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

Did you know this junkyard slave
Isn't even old enough to shave
But he can use the Force, they say

Ahh, do you see him hitting on the queen
Though he's just nine and she's fourteen
Yeah, he's probably gonna marry her someday

Well, I know he built C-3PO
And I've heard how fast his pod can go
And we were broke, it's true
So we made a wager or two
He was a prepubescent flyin' ace
And the minute Jabba started off that race
Well, I knew who would win first place
Oh yes, it was our boy

We started singin'
My my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home
And kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin'
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

Now we finally got to Coruscant
The Jedi Council we knew would want
To see how good the boy could be
So we took him there and we told the tale
How his midi-chlorians were off the scale
And he might fulfill that prophecy
Oh the Council was impressed of course
Could he bring balance to the Force?
They interviewed the kid
Oh, training they forbid
Because Yoda sensed in him much fear
And Qui-Gon said "Now listen here"
"Just stick it in your pointy ear"
"I still will teach this boy"

He was singin'
My my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home
And kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin'
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

We caught a ride back to Naboo
'Cause Queen Amidala wanted to
I frankly would've liked to stay
We all fought in that epic war
And it wasn't long at all before
Little hotshot flew his plane and saved the day
And in the end some Gungans died
Some ships blew up and some pilots fried
A lot of folks were croakin'
The battle droids were broken
And the Jedi I admire most
Met up with Darth Maul and now he's toast
Well, I'm still here and he's a ghost
I guess I'll train this boy

And I was singin'
My my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home
And kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin'
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

We were singin'
My my this here Anakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home
And kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

The Force is strong with me; soon I'm gonna be a Jedi.

Superhero

Been "sharing" a bit of late and came across this gem, also by The Pretty Reckless (making it two in two days).

I think we're all searching for a hero one way or another. Deep down we're all responsible for our own short comings or awesomeness. Heroes as depicted in media or even in film are far and few between and even then at the end of the day they're still only really doing for themselves. Kind of makes me think of that saying there is no unselfish act... even if the only reward is self gratification.

Super Hero or Super Villain we can so easily play either side and often jump from one to the other. Who do we hurt? Generally ourselves... who's the most likely to save you? Yourself.

Todays tune, "Superhero"...

All alone again searchin for somethin'
There's no one left to save me now
I won't be afraid I just thought you'd catch me
But you're not here to save me now

I've had my share of criminals
And you're no different from them all

I need a superhero cause I am just a girl
And I have no one who will go
And save me from this world
Come to me you superhero
Cause I am just a girl
I know cause you're no
Superhero

What did I expect I thought you'd help me
But I was crushed and beaten down

Yeah I've had my share of criminals
And you're no different from them all

I need a superhero cause I am just a girl
And I have no one who will go
And save me from this world
Come to me you superhero
Cause I am just a girl
I know cause you're no
Superhero

I'm hangin on the edge of the world
I'm clutching to a string
And my life is crumbling down

I need a superhero someone to save me
I need a superhero someone to save me

I need a superhero cause I am just a girl
And I have no one who will go
And save me from this world
Come to me you superhero
Cause I am just a girl
I know cause you're no superhero

I think most fail to realise that the superhero is inside themselves.

Make Me Wanna Die

I just love this one from the soundtrack to the movie, Kick-Ass. If you haven't seen it, do yourself the favour and do so. It's not exactly your classic "A Super Hero" is born plot. Although the description in the IMDb states that he has no reason to become a super hero, I think they missed the fact that we all have many reasons to do so but you'll get that a little better when you watch the movie.

The Pretty Reckless headed by Taylor Momsen (who you might know from Gossip Girl) has really grown on me so far. A bizarre kind of setup but hey, it it was any more normal, would it be another track from Britney? I'm just sayin'

Including the Intro (non-radio friendly version)

Damon Macready: So... Have you thought a little more about what you might want for your birthday?
Mindy Macready: Can I get a puppy?
Damon Macready: [surprised] You wanna get a dog?
Mindy Macready: Yeah, a cuddly fluffy one, and a Bratz movie-star make over Sasha!
Damon Macready: [stunned]
Mindy Macready: [laughs] I'm just fucking with you Daddy! Look, I'd love a Benchmade model 42 butterfly knife.
Damon Macready: [relieved] Oh, child... You always knock me for a loop!

Take me I'm alive
Never was a girl with a wicked mind
But everything looks better when sun goes down

I had everything
Opportunities for eternity
And I could belong to the night
Your eyes, your eyes
I can see in your eyes
Your eyes

You make me wanna die
I'll never be good enough
You make me wanna die
And everything you love will burn up in the light
Every time I look inside your eyes
Make me wanna die

Taste me, drink my soul
Show me all the things that I shouldn't know
And there's a new moon on the rise

I had everything
Opportunities for eternity
And I could belong to the night
Your eyes, your eyes
I can see in your eyes
Your eyes everything in your eyes, your eyes

You make me wanna die
I'll never be good enough
You make me wanna die
And everything you love will burn up in the light
Every time I look inside your eyes (burning in the light)
Make me wanna die

I'll die for you my love, my love
I'll lie for you my love, my love (make me wanna die)
I'll steal for you, my love, my love (make me wanna die)
I'll die for you my love, my love
Well burn up in the light

Every time I look inside your eyes
I'm burning in the light
Every time I look inside your eyes
I'm burning in the light
Every time I look inside your eyes
Make me wanna die

Opportunities for eternity, something we seem to forget. Some things can last forever.

Fathoms Below

I'm still hung up on finally getting back to the sea this past weekend. Sand castles, swimming at dusk... avoiding a shark but the bluebottles found me. Oh well, life's too short to not do silly things.

"Fathoms Below" starts one of my favourite movies of all time, The Little Mermaid. While we know that the ocean does indeed have a bottom and there is a limit as to just how many wonderful things we may find, I wonder if there really is a King Triton (or Neptune) or at least something as interesting.

I'll tell you a tale of the bottomless blue
And it's hey to the starboard, heave ho
Look out, lad, a mermaid be waiting for you
In mysterious fathoms below
From whence wayward Westerlies blow
Where Triton is king and his merpeople sing
In mysterious fathoms below

Heave ho
Heave ho

Heave ho
Heave ho
Heave ho
In mysterious fathoms below

I wonder what really lies at the bottom of the ocean, somehow I don't think we'll ever really know.

Tik Tok

Not the most glamorous track, but I've always said that it doesn't matter how many people are some place, that if I'm there, there will be a party. Had a great time this weekend, finally made it to the beach. I'm even a little stiff from all the digging, all I really did was build the moat. I wonder just how long that sand castle stood?

Today's tune, "Tik Tok" by Ke$ha is all about the party... and I know a few that were struggling on Saturday morning. While just the 4 of us, I think we were able to have enough fun.

Wake up in the mornin' feelin' like P- Diddy (Hey what's up girl)
Grab ma glasses I'm out the door I'm gonna hit the city (Let's go)
Before I leave brush ma teeth with a bottle of Jack
'Cuz when I leave for the night I ain't comin back

I'm talkin pedicure on our toes toes
Tryin on all our clothes clothes
Boys blowin' up our phones phones

Drop top and playin' our favorite CD's
Goin up to the parties
Tryna get a little bit tipsy

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Im'ma fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Im'ma fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

Aint got a care in world, but got plenty of beer
Aint got no money in my pocket, but I'm already here
Now, the dudes are lining up cause they hear we got swagger
But we kick em to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger

I'm talkin' bout - everybody getting crunk, crunk
Boys tryna touch my junk, junk
Gonna smack him if he getting too drunk, drunk
Now, now - we goin' til they kick us out, out
Or the police shut us down, down
Police shut us down, down
Po-po shut us - (down)-man

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Ima fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Im'ma fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

You build me up
You break me down
My heart, it pounds
Yeah, you got me
With my hands up
You got me now
You got that sound
Yeah, you got me

You build me up
You break me down
My heart, it pounds
Yeah, you got me
With my hands up
Put your hands up
Put your hands up

Now, the party don't start till I walk in

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Im'ma fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Im'ma fight
Till we see the sunlight
TiK ToK, on the clock
But the party don't stop no
Woah-oh oh oh
Woah-oh oh oh

I've always said, the party starts when I get there. So guess the party don't start till I walk in.
