Well... there's a Queen song for just about every day (okay, so there's a Queen song for every day!).
Had some rather sad news over the weekend. The passing of a friend. While we were far from close friends it always hits home when one so young is taken. So today's tune goes out to Mandie, "No-One But You (Only The Good Die Young)".
A hand above the water
An angel reaching for the sky
Is it raining in heaven -
Do you want us to cry?
And everywhere the broken-hearted
On every lonely avenue
No-one could reach them
No-one but you
One by one
Only the Good die young
They're only flying too close to the sun
And life goes on -
Without you...
Another Tricky Situation
I get to drownin' in the Blues
And I find myself thinkin'
Well - what would you do?
Yes! - it was such an operation
Forever paying every due
Hell, you made a sensation
You found a way through
One by one
Only the Good die young
They're only flyin' too close to the sun
We'll remember -
Forever...
And now the party must be over
I guess we'll never understand
The sense of your leaving
Was in the way it was planned...
So we grace another table
And raise our glasses one more time
There's a face at the window
And i aint never, never saying goodbye...
One by one
Only the Good die young
They're only flyin' too close to the sun
Cryin' for nothing
Cryin' for no-one
No-one but you
"Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is."

God of Thunder
I hate Mondays (and no, I'm just quoting Garfield). This morning started like far too many other Mondays with a network, local server issue. No server, no internet, no mail... no nothing. As it turns out we just needed to reset a router/firewall. But a pain in the ass that we didn't need first thing this morning.
Anyhow, I've decided to stick with cheesy stuff this morning and so, Kiss it will be. If I was a rocker, I would just have to be a glam rocker! So much fun to be had in just being way over the top. Besides it's a lot easier to be in full dress on stage playing a part that you don't have to take home with you. Just ask Alice or Marilyn... or even Ozzy for that matter.
So for a little glam first thing this morning, "God of Thunder".
You've got something about you
You've got something I need
Daughter of Aphrodite
Hear my words and take heed
I was born on Olympus
To my father a son
I was raised by the demons
Trained to reign as the one
God of thunder and rock and roll
The spell you're under
Will slowly rob you of your virgin soul
I'm the lord of the wastelands
A modern day man of steel
I gather darkness to please me
And I command you to kneel
Before the
God of thunder and rock and roll
The spell you're under
Will slowly rob you of your virgin soul
I am the lord of the wastelands
A modern day man of steel
I gather darkness to please me
And I command thee to kneel
Before the
God of thunder and rock and roll
The spell you're under
Will slowly rob you of your virgin soul
If I was a rockstar, I would cast my spell.

Amazing
Well, well... well. Found a few real gems this week. It's quite simply amazing that I've managed to overlook so many great tracks so far. Then again, there is so much great stuff out there that it's hard to cover it all.
Aerosmith are a band that really were big (to me) during the 90's. They got a lot of radio play from Barney Simon (does anyone else remember him). Today's tune, "Amazing" brings up some really good points. Things are pretty amazing if you sit and think about it, it just takes that moment of clarity.
I kept the right ones out
And let the wrong ones in
Had an angel of mercy
To see me through all my sins
There were times in my life
When I was goin' insane
Tryin' to walk through the pain
And when I lost my grip
And I hit the floor
Yeah, I thought I could leave
But couldn't get out the door
I was so sick n' tired
Of livin' a lie
I was wishing that I would die
It's amazing
With the blink of an eye
You finally see the light
Oh it's amazing
When the moment arrives
You know you'll be alright
Yeah it's amazing
And I'm saying a prayer
For the desperate hearts tonight
That one last shot's a Permanent Vacation
And a how high can you fly with broken wings
Life's a journey - not a destination
And I just can't tell just what tomorrow brings
You have to learn to crawl
Before you learn to walk
But I just couldn't listen
To all that righteous talk oh yeah
I was out on the street
Just tryin' to survive
Scratchin' to stay alive
It's amazing
With the blink of an eye
You finally see the light
Oh it's amazing
When the moment arrives
That you know you'll be alright
Oh it's amazing
And I'm saying a prayer
For the desperate hearts tonight
"So, from all of us at Aerosmith
To all of you out there, wherever you are.
Remember- the light at the end of the tunnel
May be you. Goodnight!"
It is pretty amazing when that "I'm-Awesome-Pill" kicks in... just wish more folk would take theirs.

The Power of One
Again, this one surprises me. I can't believe that I haven't added anything by Sonata Arctica yet! I'm sure the search function here simply doesn't work. Anyhow...
Sonata Arctica are a rock/metal band that hail from the "edge of the world, in the northern Finnish town of Kemi". This explains a lot about their used of the English language, structure of sentences and pronunciation. That said, it's song, you have creative license and are encouraged to use it when you can.
Today's tune "The Power of One" kinda goes out to all those at the moment in one way or another protesting, feeling oppressed or those that feel that they just don't have a choice in the matter (no matter how big or small their situation may feel to them or others).
(spoken)
"My father’s land, my mother’s tongue
Misleading me so shamelessly
For many years I misbelieved
The hatred is the path for me..."
Father I have killed many angels,
I think
I will now walk to the sea.
I hope I will someday forgive me
Please moor
my empty boat on a pier
I can blame for the blue blood that runs in my veins.
But I seem to forget that we are all the same.
In your own blaze of hate you've spawned the fear in many lives
You've taken action thinking it was all said on the signs.
You cannot heal the feeling burning deep inside your spine
You now collapse, cave-in revealing scabby marks of life
Mother I've seen too much, I hate to live my life.
Forgot every word you told me, stubborn little child, (angel of your life)
I have to find my Eden now, the gates I left behind.
But the pain will remain.
No power to gain.
Now I have time to dwell on, self awareness, dreadful crime.
I saw the colors too bright, not knowing that I was blind.
I slayed a man who took a chance and drank the forbidden wine.
The map I draw reveals that I have been complete, machine, in team.
Father I've seen too much, I hate to live my life.
Forgot every word you told me. Stubborn little child, (angel of your life)
I have to find my Eden now, the gates I left behind.
The pain will remain.
No power to gain. No!
Mother where's your son.
When has this begun?
Who has been the fool?
No one was born to be a servant or a slave.
Who can tell me the color of the rain?
In the world that we live in, the things said and done
They can well overrun
The power of one!
No one was born to be a servant or a slave.
Can you tell me the color of the rain?
In the world that we live in, the things said and done
They can well overrun
The power of one.
To live and let die
To give hope and take life
Is that what you're here for?
To think that you are right
To make sure it won't fly
Is the making of a hate crime
In the lands of the brave,
In the homes of the land slaves,
We are all the same
I need to believe.
There's more than the eye can see
All colors of rainbow.
No one was born to be a slave
Seek the past and place the blame
Tell me the color of the rain
No one was born to be a master
In the land we live, we die
praise the oneness, praise the lie
To bind a web around the faker
We will need a true
Rainmaker
No one was born to be a slave
Seek the past and place the blame
Tell me the color of the rain
No one was born to be a master
(spoken)
"Children of Abel, Children of Cain
Can live in harmony, without shame
The keys that I grant thee, The Sacred Land
Are dry desert sand on the palm of your hand
Without the water, the wisdom of past
Will run through your fingers, forgotten so fast
Thus now when I leave you, I'm truly blind
This blindness, this blessing, the hope of mankind..."
I think the closing is about as good as it gets. Perhaps if we could somehow retain wisdom of the past while remaining blind to the hatred that's hindered so much then maybe this blessing will offer us all a little hope.

Learn to Fly
Wasn't quite sure what I was gonna put in here today and then this came on the radio. You have to love the Foo Fighters and the music video for today's track really is very amusing.
"Learn to Fly" though is far from simply amusing... Think we're all really trying to learn to fly in one way or another.
Run and tell all of the angels
This could take all night
Think I need a devil to help me get things right
Hook me up a new revolution
Cause this one is a lie
We sat around laughing and watched the last one die
And I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life
Looking for something to help me burn out bright
I'm looking for complication
Looking cause I'm tired of lying
Make my way back home when I learn to fly
I think I'm done nursing the patience
I can wait one night
I'd give it all away if you give me one last try
We'll live happily ever trapped if you just save my life
Run and tell the angels that everything's alright...
I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life
Looking for something to help me burn out bright
I'm looking for complication
Looking cause I'm tired of trying
Make my way back home when I learn to fly
Make my way back home when I learn to
Fly along with me, I can't quite make it alone
Try to make this life my own
Fly along with me, I can't quite make it alone
Try and make this life my own
I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life (sign of life)
Looking for something to help me burn out bright
I'm looking for complication
Looking cause I'm tired of trying (tired of trying)
Make my way back home when I learn to
I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life (sign of life)
Looking for something to help me burn out bright
I'm looking for a complication
Looking cause I'm tired of trying
Make my way back home when I learn to fly
Make my way back home when I learn to fly
Make my way back home when I learn to… (Learn to, learn to, learn to, learn to…)
Better to burn up than fade away? Guess I'm still learning to fly, but we'll all make it home one way or another in the end.

Superman
Took the weekend mostly chilling out and not doing very much. Really feel much better for it. I did manage to get through a few of my more mellow tunes and came across this gem.
"Superman" by Five for Fighting (John Ondrasik) is really rather sombre and so I guess a real Monday song. That said, it's also quite inspirational in the fact that it gives personality to even those who seem infallible.
I can’t stand to fly
I’m not that naive
I’m just out to find
The better part of me
I’m more than a bird…I’m more than a plane
I'm more than some pretty face beside a train
It’s not easy to be me.
I wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
About a home I’ll never see
It may sound absurd…but don’t be naive
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed…but won’t you concede
Even heroes have the right to dream
And it’s not easy to be me.
Up, up and away…away from me
Well it’s all right…You can all sleep sound tonight
I’m not crazy…or anything…
I can’t stand to fly
I’m not that naive
Men weren’t meant to ride
With clouds between their knees
I’m only a man in a silly red sheet
Digging for kryptonite on this one way street
Only a man in a funny red sheet
Looking for special things inside of me
inside of me ...... inside of me ...ya inside of me... inside..of me
I’m only a man in a funny red sheet
I’m only a man looking for a dream
I’m only a man in a funny red sheet
It’s not easy ... wu.. hoo.. hoo..
It’s not easy to be.. me...
If we accept that even heroes have their moments of weakness, then it's easier to accept that we too will and that we too will get over it.

Handful of Rain
I can't believe I haven't posted this one yet (so Blogger fix your search). If life really did have a soundtrack that was recorded, set and available on Amazon.com then this one would have to be on mine.
"Handful of Rain" by Savatage from the album of the same title tells a sad story. This entire album was pretty much written and recorded by Jon Oliva after the death of his brother despite not crediting most of it to him. The story behind this one is pretty much wasted years, wasted opportunity and the hope for that one little spark to rekindle long lost fires.
The night is growing dark
From somewhere deep within
It shelters like an ark
And always takes you in
The barmaid walks on over
And pours another round
For a lost soul at the corner
Who prays he's never found
And the mind goes numb
'Till it's feeling no pain
And the soul cries out
For a handful of rain
Wash your women
In your whiskey
When your future's
In the past
And you're staring
Up at heaven
From the bottom
Of a glass
And you need some insulation
From the years you've
Had and lost
And you feel the perspiration
As you're adding up the cost
And the night rolls on
Like a slow moving train
And the soul cries out
There's a land
Beyond the living
There's a land
Beyond the dead
If it's true that
God's forgiving
Of the lives that we have led
In the distance
There's a thunder
And the air is thick and warm
And the patrons
Watch with wonder
The approaching of the storm
And the night rolls on
Like a slow moving train
And the soul cries out
For a handful of rain
All right
There's an old man in the corner
And he's smoking all the time
And the smoke is drifting
Upward and it's
Twisting in my
Twisting in my
Mind
In my mind
The whiskey's getting deeper
And I use it like a moat
There's a blues man in the distance and he's
Lost inside his
Lost inside his note
His note
His note
The night is growing dark
From somewhere deep within
It shelters like an ark
That always takes you in
And the night rolls on
Like a slow moving train
And the soul cries out
For a handful of rain
Water to cool the soul, water to quench the thirst, water to bring back life to that which has been all but lost. I guess at times all we need is a handful of rain because that's all it really takes.
