Mr Brightside

Despite the title I've always considered this a rather depressing track. Another one that I saw being performed on Rock Star Supernova by Marty Casey. I think the acoustic version of this one works so much better as it simply seems so much more raw.

"Mr Brightside" by The Killers is a somber tale of anguish. While I'm not quite sure who the object of affection was here (could be someone that he was in love with, in a relationship with or simply admired from a distance) Mr Brightside is pretty heart broken. While much of this may simply be playing out in his head there is obviously that point where he's had to face up to the reality of the situation and having to move on.

Does he become Mr Brightside or does he let it eat him up inside? I guess that's left pretty open ended on this one.

I'm coming out of my cage
And I've been doing just fine
Gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this?
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep
And she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke
And she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head
But she's touching his chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, letting me go

And I just can't look - it's killing me
And taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
'˜Cause I'm Mr Brightside

I'm coming out of my cage
And I've been doing just fine
Gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this?
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep
And she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke
And she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head
But she's touching his chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, letting me go

'Cause I just can't look - it's killing me
And taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Turning through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
'Cause I'm Mr Brightside

I never...
I never...
I never...
I never...

Destiny is calling... I think it's about time that Mr Brightside came out for a while.
