Well did a little creative work for a few of the folk here at the office... who said doing a bit of writing was difficult - I did! Anyhow, ended up with a bottle of Famous Grouse, my poison of choice as payment for services rendered.
This led to a few drinks last night before watching Spurs take on AC Milan. After little sleep the night before, I only managed to half time. Pity really as the game got really interesting in the second half.
So I'm kinda glad I got the chance to chill last night. Feeling much better for it this morning after a good nights rest. So after a pretty good night last night, I'm up to do it again this evening. And that in mind leaves me with the same tune that was in my head as I came into work this morning, "Whiskey in the Jar" (although must confess I do like the Metallica version over the Thin Lizzy one - originally recorded by The Dubliners though)
As I was goin' over the Cork and Kerry mountains.
I saw Captain Farrell and his money he was countin'.
I first produced my pistol and then produced my rapier.
I said stand and deliver or the devil he may take ya.
I took all of his money and it was a pretty penny.
I took all of his money and I brought it home to Molly.
She swore that she loved me, never would she leave me.
But the devil take that woman, yeah for you know she tricked me easy.
Musha ring dum a do dum a da.
Whack for my daddy-o,
Whack for my daddy-o.
There's whiskey in the jar-o.
Being drunk and weary I went to Molly's chamber.
Takin' money with me but I never knew the danger.
For about six or maybe seven, yeah in walks Captain Farrell.
I jumped up, fired my pistols and I shot him with both barrels.
Musha ring dum a do dum a da.
Whack for my daddy-o,
Whack for my daddy-o.
There's whiskey in the jar-o.
Now some men like the fishin' some men like the fowlin',
Some men like ta hear, ta hear the cannon ball a roarin'.
Me? I like sleepin' especially in my Molly's chamber.
But here I am in prison, here I am with ball and chain, yeah.
Musha ring dum a do dum a da.
Whack for my daddy-o,
Whack for my daddy-o.
There's whiskey in the jar-o yeah.
Whiskey in the jar-o.
Musha ring dum a do dum a da,
Musha ring dum a do dum a da hey,
Musha ring dum a do dum a da,
Musha ring dum a do dum a da hey,
I guess sometimes it's better to just stay at home and enjoy a whiskey or two.

1979
We'll go back in time today, by about 30 years (and then some change), to 1979. A track from the Smashing Pumpkins that really takes me back to my early teens. It was conveniently timed and themed in my life I guess.
Cool kids, breaking rules and hanging out with the wrong crowds. Things we all need to do at some point I guess. Ever wonder just what we would really get up to if we could go back to our teens. Would we be more reckless or would we somehow be more responsible?
Another track that has a pretty awesome music video.
Shakedown 1979
Cool kids never have the time
On a live wire right up off the street
You and I should meet
Junebug skipping like a stone
With the headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all
I don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know
Just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed to the earth below
Double cross the vacant and the bored
They're not sure just what we have in store
Morphine city slippin' dues down to see
We don't even care as restless as we are
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
And poured cement, lamented and assured
To the lights and towns below
Faster than the speed of sound
Faster than we thought we'd go
Beneath the sound of hope
Justine never knew the rules,
Hung down with the freaks and ghouls
No apologies ever need be made
I know you better than you fake it to see
We don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below
The street heats the urgency of now
As you see there's no one around
Time will come and pass, but with each dawn we get to start anew.

You Look So Fine
Today's tune is another from Garbage. I just fell in love with this one when I saw the music video. Very simple, perhaps overly dramatic?
"You Look So Fine" has to be one of my "moment" songs. Funny enough how just about every time I need to test something working that's the one I end up playing. I guess it's all about looking for a happy ending of some sort?
You look so fine
I want to break your heart
And give you mine
You're taking me over
It's so insane
You've got me tethered and chained
I hear your name
And I'm falling over
I'm not like all the other girls
I can't take it like the other girls
I won't share it like the other girls
That you used to know
You look so fine
Knocked down
Cried out
Been down just to find out
I'm through
Bleeding for you
I'm open wide
I want to take you home
We'll waste some time
You're the only one for me
You look so fine
I'm like the desert tonight
Leave her behind
If you want to show me
I'm not like all the other girls
I won't take it like the other girls
I won't fake it like the other girls
That you used to know
You're taking me over
Over and over
I'm falling over
Over and over
You're taking me over
Drown in me one more time
Hide inside me tonight
Do what you want to do
Just pretend happy end
Let me know let it show
Ending with letting go
Ending with letting go
Ending with letting go
Let's pretend, happy end
Let's pretend, happy end
Let's pretend, happy end
Let's pretend, happy end
I guess letting go might just be the happy end. Seems to be working so far.

Everybody's Free (Sunscreen Song)
Couldn't help but chuckle as I was reminded of this one part way through yesterday. We all know "The Sunscreen Song" (even if it's officially titled, "Everybody's Free"), but this is a Yoda spin on it.
So just for you Jodene, Yoda's take on "Everybody's Free". Despite changing most of the content of the song, I don't think any of the message has been lost. In someways, I guess to me at least, many of the references make a bigger impact and more sense. Then again, I'm far from being normal.
Sunscreen good
No sunscreen bad
Rest of advice based on years of Jedi teaching experience, yes.
This advice I dispense now
Enjoy the power and beauty of the Force
Understand the Force you will not
until you have used it
Fabulous is how you look
Fat as Jabba the Hutt you are not
Worry not about the Dark Side
Worrying is as effective as trying to stick C-3PO together with bubblegum
Do one thing, everyday, that would scare even Darth Maul
Yes
Floss
waste time not at Mos Eisley
In the end hung over you will be, yes
Kind to your lightsaber be
For when it's gone, miss it you will
Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it
but your own swamp on Dagobah
Beauty magazines read you not
make you feel ugly and green they will
Yes
Just one minute you wait
What is wrong with being ugly and green? I ask
Get to know your father
You never know if Darth Vader he will be
Live on ice planet Hoth once
Leave, before hard it makes you
Live in Naboo once
But leave before soft it makes you
Travel at lightspeed
but make sure hyperdrive works
Accept certain inalienable truths
Luke and Leia, related they are
Wookies shed all over the furniture they will
And sound a lot like Grover on Sesame street, I do
Respect Mace Windu
Very good in Pulp Fiction he was
Yes
With your hair mess not
Or by the time you're 800
One thousand it will look
Be careful of advice and. . . Boba Fett
but trust you me on the sunscreen
Yes
He is here,
I have felt him
Yup, be kind to your lightsaber, for when it is gone... miss it you will.

Pink
Well... moving onto something rather amusing and very lighthearted this morning. I'm going onto my favourite colour, Pink.
"Pink", by Aerosmith is one of those that if you've seen the music video cannot fail to make you chuckle.
So, break out the pink drinks... Anything else that might be pink and fluffy... Today is going to make you smile.
Pink - it's my new obsession
Pink - it's not even a question,
Pink - on the lips of your lover
(oh)
'Cause Pink is the love you discover
Pink - as the bing on your cherry
Pink - 'cause you are so very
Pink - it's the color of passion
Ah, 'cause today it just goes with the fashion
Pink - it was love at first sight
Yeah, Pink - when I turn out the light
And Pink gets me high as a kite
And I think everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight
You could be my flamingo
'Cause pink - it's the new kinda of lingo
Pink - like a deco umbrella (shit)
It's kink that you don't ever tell her
Pink - it was love at first sight
And Pink when I turn out the light
Pink gets me high as a kite
And I think everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight
Yeah!
I want to be your lover
I, I wanna wrap you in rubber
As pink as the sheets that we lay on
'Cause Pink - it's my favorite crayon
Yeah!
Pink - it was love at first sight (yeah)
Pink - when I turn out the light
Pink - it's like red but not quite
And I think, everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight
Gotta love pink... ;)

Broken
Well... Been thinking a lot of my dad of late. Guess that'll just come and go in waves. I'm still amazed he managed to pull of most of what he did and keep a family going all those years. Heck to the most part we ended up alright (yeah, okay, so my alright is far removed from most mind you).
Today's song, "Broken" by Seether (formerly Sarin Gas) was written by Shaun for his daughter after having to back on tour shortly after her birth. Later it was used as a duet with Amy Lee for the movie soundtrack of Punisher. While I'm an Amy Lee fan, I prefer it with just Shaun singing I think it holds much truer to the origins of the song that way.
I remember watching the guys play this one a few years back. I could only stand there and kinda just soak it up. Memories... so many memories.
One line really stands out, "There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight". You can only be angry about things for so long, but in the end there really is no blame to be made. Time will always be too short and we'll never really learn as much as we should, we can only hope to learn as much from the special folk as we can.
I wanted you to know that I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph and I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
Because I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
I think we're all kinda broken in many ways. Events in life slowly break little pieces off of us but that's what shapes us. As I like to remember, even the statue of David is just a piece of stone that's been broken in just the right places.

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
Well, I'm back. Been off for a week and just taking it easy. Broke all possible forms of routine - it was fantastic.
I'm in a pretty happy space at the moment (even if I do have one sick kitty - but he'll be fine) and I can't believe that I've never added a Monty Python song! So in perfect contrast to the usual Monday today's tune is "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from The Life of Brian. Possibly the most blasphemous movie of all time? Dunno, I thought it was hysterical. That said and done, this is is sung/played... (performed?) as the movie ends.
Cheer up, Brian. You know what they say.
Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad.
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle,
Don't grumble, give a wistle!
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
And...
(the music fades into the song)
...always look on the bright side of life!
(whistle)
Always look on the light side of life...
If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten!
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing,
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps,
Just purse your lips and whistle -- that's the thing!
And... always look on the bright side of life...
(whistle)
Come on!
(other start to join in)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(whistle)
For life is quite absurd,
And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow!
Forget about your sin -- give the audience a grin,
Enjoy it -- it's the last chance anyhow!
So always look on the bright side of death!
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true,
You'll see it's all a show,
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you!
And always look on the bright side of life
(whistle)
Always look on the bright side of life
(whistle)
Sometimes, just maybe if we stop long enough and have a good look around we might just get the joke? Always look on the bright side... and don't forget to "laugh and smile and dance and sing".
